Transforming young people through theater

General Info

Crescent City Lights Youth Theater (CCL) was founded in 1993 to fill the need for a low-cost theater program for children from all socio-economic levels in New Orleans. Through the experience of rehearsal and multiple public performances of a musical written to be performed by children, CCL changes the lives of young people in the Greater New Orleans area.  CCL’s performing arts programming nurtures the development of a young person’s artistic and life skills in a positive multi-cultural environment through instruction by professionals in the theater arts.  CCL fosters the development of life skills (goal setting, dedication, self-confidence, kindness, respect for others, personal responsibility, teamwork, and self-discipline) and job skills (punctuality, preparedness, and work ethic).  Our participants and their families develop lasting bonds between child performers, staff and families, transcending their diverse backgrounds to become new community.

Since 1993, CCLYT has produced over 35 musicals.  In 2011, for the first time, CCLYT participated in national and state festival winning two awards at the Junior Theater Festival and four awards at the Louisiana AACT Festival.

Children who began performing with CCLYT are working across the United States in theater.

If you have a child in your life who is dramatic by nature or musical or loves to dance, that child will have personal benefits through participation in CCLYT.

Performances are listed on our website.  Tickets are available online only.

Performances take place at the NORD Ty Tracy Theater located on the 1st floor of the historic Gallier Hall in the heart of downtown New Orleans.  CCLYT continues the 40+ year tradition of theater through the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission.
