My husband and I just returned from the 2011 Sugar Bowl. We stayed at the friendly , family owned and operated Villa Convento. It has comfortable rooms, great price, lovely balcony views and the history of the hotel is unique. The only slight issue is the parking. It was 5 blocks away in the warehouse garage. (But isn't parking in the quarter always an issue??) They have a wonderful inside patio and the hotel was delightfully historic and romantic. The bakery across the street is wonderful, too! The Campo family goes the ""extra"" mile to make your stay enjoyable and memorable!

This is the first place that I consider when I plan a trip to New Orleans. As the previous review states, it has smaller rooms, but I got to New Orleans to see the Quarter, not my room. Price is right, the rooms are comfortable, and the family that owns the place are friendly and helpful. Since Katrina, only coffee is served in the morning. The bakery across the street is a delight for breakfast. They do offer parking, but it is in a warehouse about 5 blocks away. Call early if you are going during one of the festivals. I called one week after the French Quarter Festival, and they had only 3 rooms left. I believe they are one of the true values in New Orleans accomodations. Is much handier to Jackson Square than most of the big name hotels (about 3 blocks).

Actually, the location is a few blocks into the sketchy side of the French Quarter -- so keep your eyes peeled if walking back late at night. The rooms are smallish and furnished rather sparsely, but the rates are pretty good. Croissants and coffee in the garden are nice in the morning. And if you're lucky, you'll get a room with a patio overlooking the street.
