Vaccination
With warmer months come mosquitoes and other factors that can spread viral diseases which seriously affect horses. Encephalitis diseases, such as Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile Virus (WNV) are spread by mosquitoes and are often experienced during the summer months. Vaccinating ensures that horses have strengthened immune system when the virus starts circulating in the mosquito population.

Comprehensive Examination
Because owning a horse is a big investment, it is imperative that you are aware of any underlying issues your potential new horse may have. We recommend that you get your 3H Veterinarian out to perform a pre-purchase exam before purchasing your next horse. A pre-purchase exam is a comprehensive exam that evaluates a horse from the tip of the nose to the tail. The initial exam also includes flexions which may identify the need for radiographs. We will discuss with you any findings and bring our recommendations.

Pain Management
A single injection is finally here! Pro-Stride is genuinely a “super-charged” mix of cells, platelets, growth factors and anti-inflammatory proteins, concentrated within plasma. It is a most efficient therapy since it can be administered by ambulatory vets, requires only a one 30 minute visit, and has been developed to slow cartilage degradation, improve mobility and provide pain relief for arthritic patients.
Upper Respiratory Illness Treatment
Horses over the age of 6 years can also develop respiratory issues that is due to allergies. Known as heaves or COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), heaves effect the lungs by causing the tissue to constrict, eventually obstructing the airway. Most owners will typically first call out their vet because they notice that their horse has developed a cough or that their horse has a tough time bringing their respiration rate and effort down after exercise. Using the upper airway scope your vet can collect fluid samples in a procedure called a BAL, or bronchoalveolar lavage, which collect cells from the fluid in the respiratory tract and can rule out heaves.

IRAP- (Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist) is both an exciting and promising therapy delivered in a patented syringe, but all IRAP products are not the same. We recommend the injections be localized to the joint, to block the receptors to inflammation, thereby shutting down the damage caused by these crippling diseases, including osteoarthritis.
