When I was young my dad would could ribs regularly during summer months. In winter he worked hard and brought ribs home. They became one of my favorite foods. This was in the early eighties. We lived in Detroit then. As I grew into my preteen years my parents split. We moved to the downriver area with my mother. dad stayed in Detroit. He still cooked in summer. I found the source of the carry out ribs one night on the way to stay with him for the weekend. He exited the freeway and went to Vicki's. He was very particular about his ribs as he used to have a barbeque restaraunt of his own. He tried alot of places but Vicki's was always his favorite. Its been 14 years now since dad has passed and Vicki's is the only place that tastes anything near what he used to cook for us. I have been eating there since I was a child and will continue as long as possible. Theres alot of rib joints in Detroit, but only one worth the trip from Monroe. I am not sure how long this place has been there, but I have been a customer for at least 21 years. R. Porter
Wish I could give it 3 1/2 stars. The service definately needs work. Friendly enough, but our server was not knowledgeable in regards to the food at all. I felt like after reading it for 5 minutes, I was better versed on their menu. Also, our server kept forgetting things (like ketchup for the fries and burgers, drinks, etc.) and there was hardly anybody there. The beef brisket was fantastic, so were the sauce choices. For the price, its a good bbq joint. Service can make or break it all though...they need to train better.
My husband, son and I went to slows last night and I do believe it was the best bar b que I've had. My husband and I just returned from North Carolina and it was better than any we had there. It was crowded but we were able to get a booth within the 30 minutes we were quoted. My son is a vegan and they had a soup he could eat. Also, asked if the apple sauce was vegan and the waiter went to extra lengths to find out for us. I would recommend this restaurant to any one looking for a good place to eat while downtown.
I love their ribs and chicken. We go their about once a week and the drive is about 10 miles but its always worth it. Lydia always cut my ribs so when I get home I can start eating without having to cut up my food before I eat. My food is always excellent. Vickie's your food is great! Keep up the good work. The restaurant is always clean and my orders are always right. I love the food here. In my opinion, you are one of Detroit' finest barbeque carryout restaurants. Must try!
If you want great comfort food that will take you back to your Grandmother's kitchen, then Lady Louisa's is the place for you--excellent food, large portions, and economical. One warning: Don't go if you are not prepared to be tempted!! I had a hard time making a decision, because everything was appealing!!! My choice of meatloaf, macaroni & cheese, greens, black-eyed peas and peach cobbler, sent me for a nap once I was done!! Sweet dreams, everyone!!
That's what you should bring wth you to Lady Louisa's. Great comfort food. Will remind you of all the "Holiday Dinners" you had when you were a child. Greens, Mac and Cheese, Blackeyes, and oh yes, Peach Cobler. Great ambiance as well. Primarily carry-out, but you'll want to stay and eat. Good music, nice art work, comfortable seating.
The service and food were outstanding. You could really taste the Jamaican influence in the food and the portions were much larger than anticipated! I travel to Detroit for work a few times a year and I plan in making this a regular stop! I would recommend this to anyone in the area and don't worry it is in a safe part of town!
I had the opportunity to experience Lady Louisa's cuisine during it's inaugural opening week. The food was outstanding - just like my southern mother's home cooking, with a wider selection. It can only get better with time. I 'highly' recommend it as a dining choice if you have a unique relationship with 'soul food'.
Julia and Cassie are the best Bartenders I've ever met. My friends and i make it a point to go to Cobo Joe's before every Red Wings game we go to. Cobo Joe's Bar is fun and exciting and makes everyone feel welcome. Make the effort to go to Cobo Joe's whenever you can.
Even though Milt is no longer with us...this restaurant had the best BBQ in the world..I would order it throughout the year for special occasions. The customer service is always good as it was a training ground for high school students.
