Overall

I have gone to Familia Dental here in NB, Tx three times now. I absolutely love it and recommend it to my co-workers. The first visit was for a deep cleaning on the right, second visit for a deep cleaning on the left, and third visit for six fillings. The dentist is very nice and the staff was very friendly and professional. The dental office was clean and neat. I'm used to ridiculously loud and obnoxious waiting areas with dirty kids running around (San Antonio) and this was a very nice change. The office hours are convenient for me since I work M-F 8-5, two appointments were at 6pm and one on a Saturday. I don't wait long in the waiting area at all and it never took longer than one hour, even for my six fillings. I plan on going back and will take my husband and son there as well.

I have to agree about the only positive seeming insincere, if you look closely, one of the reviews posted on 05/11/2011

"My smile finally looks the way...

I've always wanted it to. My teeth are healthy and beautiful now and it's thanks to Familia Dental.", but within 8 days was also posting a positive review for a hygienist in Corpus.

I sincerely apologize if this is a mistake and the post is meant for the same hygienist , but since this review is located in yp under Familia Dental on Creekside Way in New Braunfels, it does seem odd to have another post from Corpus within 8 days.

I have found that most of the staff are incredibly unprofessional and unscrupulous. I have been lied to as well as been charged for an appointment that was cancelled on me, because someone wrote in the books that I cancelled in which I did not at that time. The Orthodontist cancelled. How do you deal with a co. like this? Now due to insurance problems, I am forced to stay here until some things are worked out, and then I can finally go find another Orthodontist. When Medicaid requested more x-rays, we had to wait an entire month before they told us during our appointment, in which they knew about 20 days prior and then had to set the appointment up again for an entire 30 days later since they did not make time to do the x-rays for the day they finally told me. This means every month I am having to pay for what will probably be covered by Medicaid and I am totally broke. The billing department has no heart at all. There are, however some nice people such as Amy, the front desk assistant and one of the Dental assistants, sorry bad on names. There are a few that will really try hard to help.

For the most part we did not get to see the regular Orthro more than about 1/2 of the appointments scheduled as they were shorthanded, explaining that CORPORATE was in charge of scheduling.

How do you make braces work when they are not adjusted regularly? What a nightmare. I just pray it Is over soon. Anytime I have tried to fix things, it only makes it worse as they will just transfer you and also transfer the blame and so you get nowhere but frustrated.

As soon as the insurance is clear, we are out of there.

Can anyone recommend a fantastic Orthro in New Braunfels? Honestly, I believe most the problems are coming from Corporate and higher up, so maybe I should not be so hard on the local people, but some of the front people were not very helpful or nice. Hate to say this, but I wish I had gone in with my eyes open. Hope this helps you all.

P.S.

One other detail, the only positive reviews were back in the middle of 2011

This is by far the worst dental experience I have EVER had. Ridiculously long waiting times.Original paper work was lost by staff. Never returned phone calls and took months to set up first appointment! We were actually forgotten about and ended up spending and extra 2 hours in the office( 4hrs. total). Office policy is to over book schedule. We spent 5hrs waiting one Saturday when we were early for our scheduled appointment! Showed up one day and were told our appointment was rescheduled to another day and we were not informed. Final straw when we were told orthodontist was only there on Saturdays but was out of the office 4 Saturdays in the time frame we needed to schedule!!! Worst dental and orthodontist on the planet!!!!

1 Star because its the lowest possible rating.

I do not trust this dental practice to care for my teeth nor do I trust them to bill me properly.

Btw. In my opinion, the majority of GOOD reviews posted below seem insincere. Hmm....

HORRIBLE!!

If I could rate this facility 0 stars I would!

I made an appointment with them because they had good reviews & were on my insurance's list as a provider. I told them I needed a cleaning & that I was probably going to need a filling for one tooth because it felt like one had came out. The lady was nice and said come in 2 days later. So I did. I filled out my paperwork and the front staff was talking amongst themselves for about 20 minuts. Okay, whatever I showed up 20 mins early to fill out paperwork anyways.

A technician or what I thought was a dental hygienist came and got me and had me sit in a chair and said the dentist would be in shortly. So I waited... and waited... and waited. 30 or 45 minutes went by and he stepped in & said hello & asked if the girls had done X-rays. I told him no, about another 10 minutes went by and a girl came in to do my X-rays. Not a big deal I thought. She did a full set, & had to re-do about 4 or 5 of them. I waited about another hour and the dentist came in. He then did NOT wash his hands, & then within 15 minutes looked and quickly scraped at my teeth (I would not call it a cleaning) and not even going between them to clean.

He told the "tech" X-ray girl to floss them & have me rinse my mouth and schedule an appointment to come back for a filling. She flossed my teeth and missed the back couple molars, and had me rinse my mouth with target's brand listerine. By time I checked out at the front and got my treatment plan for the next visit and took my first step out the door it had been 2.5 hours at that office.

I immediately went home and filed a complaint with my insurance and went elsewhere to get my filling done. I needed my tooth to be completely clean, partial filling removed & to have it filled. The dentist asked to see me again so he could do an in depth exam. (Smith & Cole off of Commons)

I tried to get a copy of my X-rays and OMG Familia dental would not email them after being asked about 15 times. I called the morning of my appointment with S&C & Familia said I could pick them up within 30-45 minutes (called at 8:30) I go there about 9:15 and their office is closed.. I called the number again an it's their appointment line. I spoke to 3 or 4 girls getting the run around and finally went to my 10am appointment with Smith & Cole. I paid OUT OF POCKET for X-rays, Smith and Cole comped 2 of my exams for me.

Today's exam & X-rays with Smith & Cole showed I need 4 of my old fillings refilled and a full debridement, plus I have bone loss, and need a mouth guard because I guess I've been clenching my jaw.

Save yourself the trouble, DO NOT GO TO FAMILIA DENTAL!!! Go somewhere else. Save yourself a traumatic experience & the cruddy work from the "dentists" at the facility.

My 10 year old son has been co...

My 10 year old son has been coming here about a year and a half. Some of his baby teeth are coming out that were filled by the Familia Dental Dentists and the fillings were poorly done, and one tooth had a large cavity in it even though we have just seen the dentist less than 4 months ago, they did not tell me about that cavity they didn't fill even though they took over a dozen x-rays at the last appointment. These baby teeth coming out looking terrible and one other tooth still in that looks like it also has a large cavity is making me reconsider going back, but the workers have been pretty nice even though I keep getting different dentists every time I go there and the last one was very nosy, he seems like he was Middle Eastern and didn't really get the cultural sensitivity about asking intrusive personal questions like the third degree.

I am going to keep going back for now but will keep an eye out for going somewhere else if my son's teeth keep looking like the fillings aren't done right and he has holes in his teeth that I can actually see when I help floss his teeth. My teeth have never had big holes and I go to a different dentist that does not take my son's insurance unfortunately.
