I sell real estate in the Wisconsin area, specifically, the Waukesha, Milwaukee and New Berlin areas. My clients are often asking for advice regarding home services and my go-to company for plumbing, heating, air conditioning, etc. is Flat Rate Home Services without hesitation. I had a new client that just had a new baby immediately after buying their home when their heat went out in the middle of the night. I called Flat Rate Home Services myself, since they were new to the area and were still getting settled. The technician got there in about 20 minutes and had their heat back on in less than an hour. I cannot praise them enough…they ALWAYS come through and are absolutely the most knowledgeable staff/technicians with the best prices around!
Wish I'd read reviews. Thought I had a simple job. Someone was here FAST, and said simple job would cost $600 (and charged me $60 for the flat rate figure), warned me there might be other problems (which would cost more), but spent much of his time trying to upsell me something else. My regular handyman came out two days later. It did take a LOT more, and the total bill was $168. If you can wait, don't call.
This business doesn't even deserve any stars. What a rip off. Got one small switches replaced which they charged me $300 for which didn't even solve the problem. Had a different plumber stop by turns out switch is only $60. They rip people off, don't call these people.
My water heater stopped working late on Sunday night. Early Monday morning I call Flat Rate to see what was going on. Within an hour of me calling they not only arrived at my home but had repaired my heater! They had it working again immediately for under $280.00. Very professional and reasonable. Highly recommended.
Thanks to your entire team of professionals for the prompt and excellent service I recently received. I had a plumbing AND furnace emergency on a late SUNDAY night and you came right away, coordinated everything and completed the repairs so fast. Everyone was so nice too! I've used you in the past and will in the future (hopefully in a non-emergency situation... like a low stress annual furnace cleaning) Thanks again - Kelly (the frantic landlord in Oregon, WI)
Client for life! My neighbor called me this morning to say there was water coming from outside my house. Not knowing what to do I called Flat Rate right away. Tom answered and while I was on the phone, he kindly helped me look for a way to shut off the water to the outside. When I couldn't find it he said he would send a truck right away. Les and his son Ryan showed up within 25 minutes, turned off the water and told me what had happened. Evidently the lawn faucet had froze then thawed and burst. They told me that since the problem was isolated I could wait til the spring to replace the faucet. Then the most amazing part - they didn't even charge me for coming over! I plan on calling Les back when the weather gets warmer to do the repair, and I will tell evryone I know how nice and wonderful they are. Christmas came early!
Wish I could have shopped around. Furnace guy was polite and fixed my malfunctioning furnace within 30 minutes of being at my home. However, I felt like he worked harder on his sales pitch than the actual replacement part. I had 2 options, buy the part for about $750 straight out or for $704 if I paid an additional $88 for furnace cleaning and maintenance 2 months from now. I had no choice but to get the work done if I wanted heat in December for my baby. They also neglected to tell me on the phone that he would charge $115 for diagnosing the problem, in addition to the $29 to come look at the furnace. Granted, he waived the fee if I paid for the work. If not, I would've been out $140 with no work performed. That being said, I had no choice but to pay for the repair, which ended up costing nearly $900, to quickly replace a module on an old furnace. The part alone, that he charged over $700 for, is available for $129.95 (or less) online. I understand convenience and company markup, but marking up THAT much is insane and not right. Especially when it';s a required fix. Just another company caring more about their pocketbook than the customer.
Job Well Done. After trying in vain to sell my house for 1 year, my husband and I caved in and had some remodeling and plumbing work done. We shopped around and although Flat Rate's quote wasn't the lowest we received, my husband and I felt they were the most trustworthy and had the most skilled workers. Long story short, the remodel is done and we finally sold the house! We recovered nearly double what we spent on the remodel work. Savvy buyers can spot cheap work so I'd recomend this company to anyone in a similar situation.

I have been trying to sell my house for over a year now. I called Flat Rate because I was having a showing that evening and my main floor bathroom toilet was backing up. The plumber got to my house within an hour and fixed the backup in short order. On his way out I asked him if he could recommend any remodeling contractors for my unfinished basement and antiquated kitchen. He mentioned that they do remodeling as well and could give me a quote. I wanted to make sure that they would not sub out any of the work so I could be certain that everything was done by licensed professionals. I've had work done by handymen in the past and although it's cheap up front, I've been paying for it on the back end in late-permit fees, code violations and rework. For less than 2 weeks, crews from Flat Rate remodeled my basement and kitchen and I never once saw a subcontractor. The workmanship is excellent and they have been very easy to work with. They even set up my tax-credit paperwork. I may have been able to save a few bucks by going with a company that subs everything out but I'm happy to pay a little more for the best quality work and the best quality materials. In today's real estate market, it is nearly impossible to sell an old home that doesn't have at least minimal upgrades. Between the tax credits and the increased value to my home, the work paid for itself. And I'm finally able to sell my house!
I'd recommend to anyone.
