I had been a loyal client for 11 years. This past weekend, one of my cats became ill overnight. When I called VCA Animal Hosp. the very next morning to get in to see my regular vet, I was told I couldn't get in until January (a month from now). Really? A sick pet? So on Monday I got an appt. with another vet, different location, and by that time my cats health had declined drastically. They have other associate vets, but it's my experience that they stink. I had a new adopted pet and took her in because she had diarrhea. The assoc. vet couldn't diagnose the problem. Turned out all she had was worms! And to boot, I was charged twice for the exam, which they would not recend. Ever since VCA took over this place, all they seem to care about is your money, not your pet.
This clinic saved my newfoundland from AIHA, caused by the rattlesnake vaccine given by my vet. I was urged by my vet to take her there even though I lived in another state. They saved her and the fatality rate from AIHA is over 70%. Yes their expensive but 24 hr vet supervision and well worth the money.
Though the ad material says VCA Highland's main priority is our pets' health, it's very clear that VCA's main priority is making money. Though it has had some good veterinarians through the years, I see no reason to go there now that Dr. Mask has retired.
I took a Great Pyrenees, a working dog, in for a neuter and got talked into a more expensive version that, it turns out, is primarily for show dogs. It was not presented to me as an "appearance" thing but rather a health enhancer. Guess what? Only dog I've ever had, and I've had dogs for 55 years, who has had repeated problems with a neuter!
And then there was my ailing, elderly cat. I got talked into a senior wellness check to the tune of hundreds of dollars. This wellness check apparently showed nothing, or at least that was what the veterinarian, Dawn somebody, said. And as soon as I had spent the money, she was no longer interested in my cat's health problems at all. Wellness check said he was fine, so that was that. My cat died of hyperthyroidism within the year.
I have no desire to further enrich a vet practice that does substandard work and cares only about money.
This place is very expensive. I received a quote to get my dog's teeth clean for $1300 which included two teeth extraction. I went to Banfield Hospital instead and got her teeth done for $500 which included two teeth extraction.
Be careful and do your research, you don't have to spend that kind of money to get you dogs teeth clean.
My Weimeramer had Thyroid cancer, we were referred to VCA’s cancer doc Susan Ettinger.
We asked that he be treated with Prednison, not Chemo. Dr. Ettinger didnt seem to hear our wishes. We were patients less than 1 month, 3 visits.
By chemo 2 an ultra sound also revealed liver & spleen cancer, Prostrate infection (meds weren't working), Kidney infection, High white blood count
I asked if he could endure chemo & she said he was getting a weaker drug
I return & he has diarrhea "you should give him the meds at home" they say. “Did you give him a pill?” I ask since his meds are home 45 min away.
“No, we would have had to charge you $20” they say. "He can barely walk" I note “well he got up in the back & made it to the waiting room, see”
Our dog was very sick & barely slept. At 7:40 the next morning I took an extremely wobbly & unbalanced dog out to relieve himself. He laid down in our back yard & died.
We think he had a heart attack, & he suffered, we think he was too weak for Chemo.
My dog was lethargic and not eating or drinking for 2 days. She took X-rays and blood work that came out fine. While I waited in the room for 5 hrs my dog became sicker throwing up 3 times which I told them about. She said my dog
was dehydrated so they gave her fluids and some nausea medication and sent her home advising if she got sicker to bring her back for an ultrasound.I brought her to another vet and she was diagnosed with Pravo disease ! A common highly contagious disease a dog can get if they are not vaccinated as puppies! My dog had all the symptoms of this disease but they did not test her for them! WHY NOT! Totally negligent ! $773 dollars they charged and my dog could have died. I also told the doctor I didn't care about the cost do whatever it takes! They were totally aware that it was a stray dog I found and she may not had gotten any shots as a puppy! Please do not bring your dog to the VCA of Cheshire
Have had no problems previously with Dr. Chinn till today. Very condescending and judgmental to a situation we were put into. Offered no solutions or help whatsoever. Inexcusable attitude and unless I receive an apology immediately I will be going elsewhere and making sure everyone knows it.
I have never had a vet clinic so welcoming. My dog, a huge GSD is out of control with anxiety and lack of socialization but VCA understands and makes no judgement. I LOVE THESE PEOPLE. Great doctors, techs and office staff and my big brute of a dog gets excellent care while I don't get judged.
This is the worse medical facility for animals. I took my granddaughter's 5 year old chihuahua because she was pregnant and bleeding, the doctor said she was not pregnant but had a serious infection that required emergency surgery. the cost would be $1400 or she would die before morning. I knew she was pregnant and told the doctor that her stomach was bulging and moving, she told me that she was the vet and certainly she would know if the dog was pregnant. We asked for antibiotics, scheduled an appointment with another vet and took the dog home. After a couple of hours she delivered 3 puppies all were dead, the new vet said she did not have an infection of the uterus but rather was having stress labor. I did go back to VCA clinic in Upland, CA and spoke with someone in charge who stated they stood by the doctor's diagnosis that the dog was not pregnant, I then proceeded to show her the puppy that wasn't suppose to exist and asked what would she call it. I was asked to leave.
If I could leave no stars I would. I called while on my way to have my newborn puppy put to sleep because her intestines were on the outside of her stomach. They wanted 174.00, I called another vet.. they charged me 22.50, gave us paw prints, flowers to plant and were so kind and compassionate to my crying girls. I will never call this place again. Money hungry all the way!!
VCA ARROYO GRANDE Dr. Steven Dennis
has always been so awesome to my cats and me.
My cats love him. He is so kind and gentle. a little on the pricey side. But they don't do heres you bill heres your cat like a lot of santa maria vets and Pismo has done to me.
Run don't walk away from this horrible facility. Someone threw a kitten over my fence at Chrismas and I rushed her to this nearest vet. They wanted $1.200.00 for treatment and a 3 day "hospital stay." They demanded all or half down. I gave them $600.00. When I called to check on her 4 hours later they told me I had to come pick her up as they had no overnight facility, told me to transfer her to another city to an overnight facility, pick her up "before 8AM" in the other city and then bring her back to Noah's. They expected me to do this for the duration of her treatment. NEVER was this EVER explained when I signed the treatment plan and paid for "hospitalization." Thank God my daughter who works for the Humane Society was with me or I doubt anyone in their right mind would even believe my story. I picked her up and brought her to another facially that provides overnight care where she is recovering. Like a fool I thought since Kitty was only at Noah's Place for 4 hours that I would receive a reimbursement on my $600.00. I was wrong. They demanded $60.00 more from me so I am in the hole for $700.00. Since this I have read the awful reviews this place gets. They deserve them %100.
I recommended Pound Vet to anyone. The Management and employees are always very caring. They don't just treat your animals and then release them, they connect with all of the animals that are brought to anyone their clinic. Thank You for all that you do. :--)
I take my three Chihuahuas to VCA in Wausau, and I have had nothing but wonderful service there. The ladies there treat my dogs with kindness and my little ones are not the friendliest to strangers. I Have always get in right away and when I have had emergencies I was able to get in within the hour. I have also been able to hold off on payment until the end of the week before when I was short on cash when I had an emergency come up before my paycheck came in. I have never ever had a bad experience with them and I would not take my dogs anywhere else. I did however go with my mother to her vets in Athens and watched her vet treat her little yorkie like a rag doll, which only reinforced my good feelings about my vets. I would recommend VCA in Wausau WI to anyone I see with pets.
I took my dog there for treatment. The diagnoses was correct but they exaggerated the urgency in which surgery was needed and wanted payment up front for her treatment. I had taken my dog there because my normal vet was already closed for the day so I decided to wait and speak with my vet before making a decision. The following day my vet saw my dog and scheduled a surgery for 2 days later. The cost quoted at VCA was double the amount my regular vet charged and the first question out of his mouth wasn't regarding payment for service. I'm glad I waited to see him rather than rushing with the decision at VCA. They seem to be more focused on what they can make off of your pets rather than treating them.
VCA Black Mountain Animal Hospital : terrible service, my dog needed minor medical service and was taken to the back room where another dog was, and got into a fight with it. My dog suffered many injuries and I was told a simple sorry and some lame excuse how the "dog" got loose on its own (obviously No supervision) and required the staff to beat both dogs with a broom handle causing cuts, swelling, and my dog to limp and whimper for days. No compensation or compassion was offered and still charged FULL price for services. This place is the worst animal care in the world, EVER !!! I wish there was a negative star rating.
