If I could give RHS zero stars, I would.
My husband and I were perusing their website, looking for a new family member (dog) and when we found one that we thought we could really love and would enjoy bringing into our home, we went to one of the Saturday events to see if we could meet her. She wasn't available at the time, so we went ahead and filled out an application. A few weeks later, we went to another event to meet her and talk with the volunteers about our app. Again, she wasn't there because she was sick after eating a cat toy (typical). Still, we talked with a volunteer about our app, and as soon as she noticed that both of us work, we could tell by the look on her face that there was no way they would allow a working couple who just wanted to adopt (not shop for) a puppy to bring one from their oh so prestigious organization home. I asked when we could expect to hear something back from them and was told that someone would reach out to us by Monday or Tuesday of the following week. This was three weeks ago. We still haven't heard anything from them. I've left numerous messages for them to return my call, or, at the very least, stick to their word and contact people when they say they will.
I understand wanting to make sure you're giving (selling) these animals to good homes with owners who won't abuse or mistreat them. But to deny good people a PET because they work and can't afford to stay home with an ANIMAL 24/7 is absolutely ridiculous, judgemental and wrong.
I will NEVER recommend RHS to a friend or family member simply because I don't want them to have to go through what we went through. Find the perfect dog and get rejected over something trivial.
DO NOT GO TO THESE PEOPLE FOR A PET!!
DO NOT PUT YOUR TRUST AND FAITH IN A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO DON'T EVEN HAVE THE DECENCY TO CONTACT YOU TO LET YOU KNOW THAT YOU'VE BEEN REJECTED OVER SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS HAVING A JOB!!!
