I WAS JUMPED BY FIVE EMPLOYEES OF SASHELVIS WHEN I QUESTIONED THE SERVICE - The employees of SASHELVIS attacked me verbally and then physically when I tried to walk out.
This type of violence should not be allowed and this business should be penalized. A customer should not experience verbal and physical attack from any business. The officer that showed up took an approach that was surprising, he did not apppear to believe that I was assaulted and battered by the employees.
This is a dominican hair salon in Silver Springs, MD that I visited several times before this incident.
If you have any stories about this salon that you would like to share. Please respond to my review. I am against violence and want this type of violence to never be repeated at this establishment.
If you walked by on 09//02/2010 and saw this incident, please reply to this review.
My final review for SASHELVIS is zero Star with a civil and criminal lawsuit that will show them how to run and business in Silver Spring, MD

I've been going here since October 2009 around when they first opened. The ladies are really nice, but just know that only about 2 of them speak English. Don't go in here expecting to give a whole lot of direction around how and what you want done to your hair, or a whole lot of conversation in general. They will speak to each other all day in Spanish, but as for you, they only want to know 3 things:
-if you want a wash and set or a relaxer
-if you want ""deep condition"" (under the dryer with a cap for 10 minutes) or ""regular"" (comb through conditioner and wash out)
-if you want your hair curly or straight
(and occasionally if you think the water temp is ok)
That's it. Seriously that's all they will ask you.
If your hair needs serious treatment, fixing, damage control, layered cut, very specific style, etc. I wouldn't recommend any Dominican salon for you.
You can bring your own products here, just make sure you explain to one of the ladies who speak English how you want it used.
I would NOT under any circumstances recommend getting a relaxer here. I've seen how they do relaxers and a lot of times they comb it all the way down to the ends of your hair. A serious NO NO for black hair.
I'd recommend bringing a spray heat protectant product and they will use it. Especially if you bring your child here. That is one seriously hot blow dryer they use and that heat will hit your scalp and feel like it's on fire for real. I am so not playing. If you are tender-headed, steer clear. If you can handle it, take a Tylenol and drink a whole bottle of water.
Overall, I come here quite regularly and am always satisfied with the way my hair comes out. Usually curly and the curls last a really long time (but that's just my hair texture). I get many compliments on my hair after it's done. They could stand to deep clean a lot more, get the fronts of the dryers fixed, and be consistent about opening the salon on time. The website says Sat at 8am but they've showed up 15-20 minutes later. Hope that helps!
My husband and I went to the Lusby, MD shop, to get our hair done for the wedding. The people there were semi professional, alot of the women there were just standing around doing nothing while there were people waiting to be helped, hair just covered the floor from previous customers. I think there were only 2 women in the entire shop that could speak understandable english. It took me about 20 minutes to get the woman to understand what I wanted to do to my hair. They completely hacked my husbands hair to death, we had to go to another hair cutter to get it to be fixed, he was basicly bald on out wedding...
On a positive note, my hair falls flat very easy when it goes into curls, yet when I got curls for my wedding I was amazed that 7 hrs after I had my hair done it was still held very well. I positively love the products they use. They made my hair nice and soft and very manigable. I still dont know if good products is worth the poor service.

Well you may have it going on in Silver Spring. But I went to the one in Bowie Md and what a trip. Not Professional at all, Caps and rollers on the heads of the employees, Yelling across the room, allowing non licensed persons to apply color and then a shouting match happened before our very eyes, and the young girl that cuts she needs to go back to school or better yet get a license and were r the licenses, I'm sorry but unless you get your act together you will not last long, WORD OF MOUTH WILL SINK THE SHOP. Soft hair yes but I'm looking for a professioal salon that when i look at the employee i want to look like her or atleast try to get the same hair, not looking at someone with a plastic bag or rollers.
