We paid top dollar for Hunter Douglas blinds (several thousand dollars) expecting the best product and customer service. The product was just OK and the service was terrible. Read the fine print folks. Just hope you never have any problems because Penney's will make even more money providing terrible service.
DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Horrible customer service, asked for blackout drapes, the light comes through, my wife made better drapes for a LOT LOT LESS MONEY. Sales rep who came to my home said he would keep us up to speed on the progress of the order. I had to call to find out what was going on, he never called. Half our order is still being made, seems the material has flaws in it, our order was placed 2 months ago.
If I could give a ZERO star rating, I would.
Terrible terirble service and product! Still trying to get our drapes after placing the order 5/23/11 (it's now 12/15/11). drapes were initialed delivered in August - sewly badly, puckered throughout and returned for a re-do. Picked up 9/14/11, no drapes, no update, no nothing. We've called the store repeatedly. No one answers and no one calls back despite repreated phone messges. finally went to the store 2 weeks ago and no one from the decorating dept was available so another store rep gave us the supervisors info. no call back from her either, email bounced back. I finally called JC Penney 800 number for help. let's see what happens. So far, i'd rate their product a negative rating or zero but unfortunately that is not an option!
I'm very disappointed in the JCPenney Custom Decorating Service. We have done all of our home decor shopping at JCPenny there for years and was always very impressed with the quality of items, the service and the associates in the stores, So when we wanted custom blinds for our kitchen and family room we didn't think twice who we wanted to hire. The salesperson was very professional and had some great ideas. Me and my wife were very happy with his suggestions and placed the order. Sadly that was the last time we heard anything from JCPenny about our order. After 14 weeks of waiting ( when promised 6 - 8 weeks) and many unanswered phone messages, we canceled the order. The salesperson couldn't give us a good answer as to why we never received our order. The only thing he could say was that they had a change in staff and your order may be sitting in the warehouse. I could never recommend JCPenny Custom Decorating to a friend. This experience has really changed our minds about JCPenny.
I'm sad to see Penny's got some bad reviews. I've had nothing but great experiences at our local Missoula store. I've shopped there for most of my life, and know many of the associates. I always get good service, products, and good prices. I'd much rather shop there then Dillards or Sears.
Do not use JC Penney Custom Drapery no matter where you live. I have had a terrible experience with draperies ordered in Oct, 2010, delivered in Dec. 2010, replaced in April 2011 with a new set, still have puckered seams and a bolt wrinkle. Have 5 pages of notes of all the missteps and poor service. Still charged full price for the draperies. Material is nice, but construction of draperies is substandard; not what is expected for a custom made drapery. JC Penney's has lost a loyal customer of over 47 years.
I had them come to the house for ideas and an estimate. I then had a local company come by. What a difference! The local company asked me questions that really effected my decision in terms of room darkening, control options, etc. The sales person from JC Penney did not either know about these things or simply didn't care to ask. As for their big sale...what a joke. The local company was actually less expensive and the installation was done within 10 days. And, they even offer a blind cleaning service which I will certainly use.
It is the difference of going to a national chain vrs. a family operated company. One could care less how the job comes out and the other knows that their reputation is on the line.
I had the most wonderful experience looking for my draperies. There was an associate Diane in the North Aurora shopping center that was more than helpful. She took the time to really listen to what I wanted to do but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I have had so many compliments with what she put together for me. It has a very classy expensive look at a reasonable cost. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a personal designer without the cost. She has an amazing eye to put things together of what "you" want because she takes the time to listen. I felt as if she was a friend helping me shop not just a customer trying to make a sale. THANK YOU DIANE!!!
They advertise up to 70% off retail and there prices are still double the competition. Shop around. Oh, and they use subcontractors, no thanks please.
I am not sure if you are referring to the "Made to Measure" department, or to the "Custom Decorating" department, but Custom Decorating does not usually use subcontractors for installations and their prices are comparable to other custom designed products for your home.
On February 26, 2009 I placed a custom drapes order for my family room. The price was one of the best I had found and the promise date of April 26, 2009 was acceptable. This is the only good part of the story. First, the drapes arrived unlined. I stopped the install and sent them back since this was clearly a mistake. When we placed the order, we specifically addressed this point and the decorator said, "JCPenney does not make unlined, custom drapes." Well, I guess they do. Two events then made matters worse. My credit card was charged for the balance that I owed, even though I had refused delivery. (I opened a dispute with AMEX and received a credit.) Then 2 days after I stopped the install we received a call from our decorator saying it would cost 15% more to have the drapes lined.
After spending a lot of time finding and speaking with more senior people in the Custom Decorating department, JCPenney finally admitted their mistake and agreed to line the drapes free of charge. On June 24, 2009, 2 months after the original promise date, the lined drapes arrived for install. Unfortunately, one set of drapes was made too small to appropriately cover the window. Another problem is that one seam on the patio panel was placed wrong and consequently the entire panel hangs funny. (There are several seams in the patio panel and most are almost invisible, so one seam was clearly done incorrectly.) Even though JCPenney is aware of these problems, my credit card was charged (again) for the balance. Nothing has been done in the last 2.5 weeks to correct these problems even with daily calls from me. JCPenney is very eager to get your money, but not very eager to make the customer happy!
I go to the JC Penneys in Northfield Mall by my Bass Pro Shops and Wendy always does such a fine job on my hair. So often people take time to write the negative or report that, I wanted to take a moment to say I appreciate the service she provides, and how detailed she is with my hair. She speaks so highly of the company and the ongoing training they provide to the stylist to keep them up to date. I appreciate her and I appreciate you. Thanks John
The Only Problem I seem to notice is that there is not a wide selection of items to choose from or to browse through. I have been to websites that have a lot more variety of things to choose from and have better service. Not the best website, but probably not the worst.
I recently had a problem with a toy (manufacture "default" that was a safety hazard). The company was very helpful, and apologetic. I was impressed that the manager called to make sure my children were ok. We discussed the problem with the toy, and he was very cooperative and sincere. It is good to know that the manager at the Barboursville JCPenney store is very people oriented and concerned about his customers! Thank You.
When i go to a website to look up a product, I want to find that product. In the sales ads of the newspaper recently they had a pair of shoes that i was interested in. Upon looking for them on the website i couldnt find them. That is incredibly irritating. So after spending a long time on the website clarifying my search i called the store. The employee at the store had NO idea what i was talking about. So i pulled out the ad and explained directly where they were located in the ad. I am sorry but if you are going to advertise and carry something, your employees should know about it. And when talking on the phone to this person she was very rude and had a very bad attitude. It was like she didnt want to be bothered. They need to chose their rmployees more carefully and make sure they are customer oriented!
