The application process for new service is asinine! I understand the need to identify the identity of the applicant but a driver's license and a property deed apparently isn't enough. They require that you submit your social security CARD with your application. In this day of identity theft, a prudent person doesn't even carry their ss card! There are many online services that can validate the match of a ss number with a name and date of birth. A driver's license along with a ss number and a credit check provides irrefutable evidence of identity. You aren't even required to present a ss card to apply for a U.S. passport! I haven't been asked for my ss card in over 20 years and have bought and sold many homes and opened many utility accounts. Now I must locate my card I haven't seen in years. Now the question on my mind is why does Greeneville light and power have more stringent identity requirements than neighboring utilities, banks and even the federal government?

Insane start up fee

You have to pay $300 to start service. I have never had to pay to turn on my electric until I moved here. I don't think its fair at all.
