My story is almost the same as the other reviewers. My friend and I were staying in Rutland for the first time, and we decided to go into town to a restaurant, Table 24. There was no parking on the one-way street where the restaurant was, but adjacent was a large lot with a 'Key Bank' ATM machine on the other side. There may have been one other car parked in the lot. So, we parked (about 9 pm) in the lot and proceeded to the restaurant. We came out about 10 pm, and the car was gone. There were a couple of other guys who said that they also had been towed, and they had been in contact with the towing company, Carrara's Towing. (By the way, both cars also had NH plates). We walked around for what seemed an hour in some sort of industrial area. When we finally got to the location, not only did the tow operator have 'muscle' backup, but he had the police there as well. I felt like this was some sort of 'roll'. (Operator also would not give us his name). This is obviously something that happens on a regular basis. I will never come back to Rutland again, and of course I will be relaying this story to the restaurant, as well as the Bank, the town of Rutland and the Chamber of Commerce (and anyone else I can think of). I would advise anyone in the area not to patronize any of the businesses on Wales St.
This is the worst tow shop in Rutland. They towed my car off a private lot. When asked how much they said 75 if you go to their shop or 125 they will be so kind as to bring it to you. After walking for about 10 minutes for the 1 mile to their yard, I get an angry phone call asking where I'm at and how long it would be until we got there. While enroute, we found another group that was looking for their vehicle as well. A large group of us were met by an angry little man who refused to even give us his name except "the only employee". Funny, the only vehicles towed were ones with NH plates and all the VT ones were untouched. Bad attitude, and ugly practice patrolling business lots on a weekend night looking for a way to earn easy money. I would burn my car before I asked them to tow it.
This business is twisted and practices a horrible approach to customer service. This company works with other businesses to tow cars in a so called "no parking area" that is completely unmarked and does so in an aggressive manner. So if you get your car towed either by choice OR unexpectedly then expect to have some scratches or even dents. It's amazing to me that in an economy such as the one Rutland Vermont is suffering so badly from that a local company such as this would act so rude and careless. It will only be a matter of time before this company has to close its doors. All this JUST to make a dollar? PATHETIC!
A great big 000000 stars for Carraras towing! We were towed last night by Carraras towing from Key Bank parking lot on West St., Rutland, Vt. Signs designated lot as "Key Bank" customers only (which we are). Did not state the hours that you can park there. Was told by Carraras when i called that they had towed 32 other cars from that lot...and i was the first to complain and that if I did not pick up my car tonight that I would be charged an additional $50.00. Lets see; 32 @ $75.00 = $2400.00 A large chunk of change for a nights work!!! It takes the rest of us many months to make that kind of $. They also would not give me the number of the parking lot owner - whom they were employed by. Key Bank rents the lot and I was told to take it up with them!
