The Delaware County Sheriff's Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that prevents crime, protects residents lives and their property, suppresses criminal activity, and apprehends and prosecutes law offenders. It operates a jail that provides care, custody and control of pretrial detainees and posttrial convicted criminal offenders. The Delaware County Sheriff's Department supports Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.), which is a law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum that emphasizes immunization against delinquency, youth violence and gang membership. The department also conducts judicial sales of real and personal property, as well as determines property ownership. The Delaware County Sheriff's Department has been operational for more than 175 years and is located in Muncie, Ind.
