Jim Storey & Storeylines live at Dizzy'sLots of electricity in the air for Storey's fusion project. 10Robert Bush, June 8, 2013FacebookTwitterJam Session alertsWrite a story for usMore Sharing ServicesShareEmailOn June 7, Dizzy's operator Chuck Perrin provided an opportunity to experience the work of guitarist Jim Storey's fusion project Storeylines, featuring virtuoso pianist Lynn Willard, bassist Ignacio Arango and veteran drummer Gary Nieves, with special guest vocalist Janet Hammer.Opening with the complex "Jimnastics," Storey's distortion-laced guitar sketched ornaments in the manner of Larry Carlton's work with Steely Dan over Willard's 70s vintage synth-patches. The keyboard solo ratcheted up the kinetic energy and drew Nieves into some explosive counterpoint.Storey's original material drew heavily on the bombastic side of jazz-rock fusion, and his performances reminded me of shows I caught back in the days of Jan Hammer and Caldera, for instance. On "Orange Doom," the strong hookish melody and profusion of bent-tones brought Mahavishnu 3 to mind.Willard was featured on "A Different Point of View," with a Joe Zawinul-esque essay of melodica textures carving sharp curlicues through gauzy harmonies. Storey answered with an emotional solo lined with screaming vibrato.Hammer took the stage for a Crusader's like, backbeat driven feature with dreamy chords. Her pitch was solid and voice was supple, but with all of the electricity in the air, I had a hard time understanding the content of the lyrics. There was a nice, organ-shuffle groove on another tune with an almost Little Feat pop treatment where Storey's finger vibrato and chicken-picking hit home; Nieves' fulsome Billy Cobham style drum solo set the stage for the mayhem of "Acid Rain," and Storey's Al DiMeola meets Jimmy Page antics. For me, the highlight was "Blue Prairie," a very strong melodic ballad done with a nod to Secret Story era Pat Metheny. The slower pace, and softer dynamics allowed the nuances of Nieves' brushwork to enhance a beautiful Willard solo and the bass of Arango (who seemed tentative all night) to come to the surface.Photo by Jon Whitledge
I worked at Redline Executives for the better part of 2011, and I can honestly and unbiasedly say that the company surpasses others based on two important criteria: 1. The wax works. Period. I can't count how many people I've had come up and ask me for some, whether I currently work there or not. It's always important that you believe in the product you are marketing, and at Redline, it's impossible not to believe in it. I continue to use the wax on my BMW and it leaves it as shiny as the day I drove it off the lot. 2. The methodology works. Again, period. At Redline you don't just learn to be successful at marketing one particular product; the life lessons I've taken away from there continually give me self-confidence and put me at a competitive advantage over anyone else in my current life and work. I can confidently talk to anyone regardless of personality or age or state of mind. I can feel confident in knowing that the recipe for success is a great work ethic and a "yes" attitude. For these things, I am eternally grateful to Jason Hensgen and Redline Executives in general!
"After I learned that my caterer was charging a little bit too much for rental items I decided to get a quote from Platinum. I emailed them on a weekend and received a quote the next day! The ladies that I had the pleasure of emailing with were fantastic and changed my quote every time I asked for a change with no complaint. I was able to make changes up to one week before the wedding. They were also very helpful with picking out colors! They even delivered the day before our wedding and picked up the next day with no charge. The delivery truck arrived during our rehearsal dinner and they unloaded everything without us being there (no cellphone service in the area). They even went above and beyond and set up some of the tables (usually an extra charge). They delivery and pickup crew were hard working and professional. We even had a little mix up and getting a refund was very simple. Thank you everyone at platinum, you made our wedding stress free :)"
Planning a wedding is stressful, and I'm the first to admit that I'm a tough customer, but when I find someone who treats me well, I am a great advocate. My experience with Platinum was great from beginning to end. I called around to several party rental companies looking for pricing. Platinum was the only company that took the time to write me out an estimate on the spot, and educate me a bit about the industry. They invited me in to their showroom, which was beautiful. Gary spent 2 hours with me going through swatch books and showing me different options for equipment. He practically planned my wedding for me. He suggested a caterer, a florist, and he even sent me to look at a few venues. We took his advice with the caterer, who was also excellent. They were prompt, courteous, and ever so patient. I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you. I recommend Platinum to anyone.
"FRIENDS"Say it With "Flowers" " FRIENDSHIP DAY" August 3Friendship is so important in our lives. Why not on Friendship Day, August 3, show your dear friends how much they mean to you with Flowers. Single flower, Rose, small bouquet, small arrangement or a Big flower arrangement.Below is beautiful example of Friendship flowers,, any color would be ok, but Yellow Roses super cool and perfect for the occasion. The meaning of a yellow rose stands for joy and happiness, but most of all yellow roses mean friendship. And the meaning of yellow roses are very special because it's associated with true friendship.A true friend is so important to people of all ages; it's like a gift from God.Friends bring so much sunshine and brightness to our lives so it is very appropriate that yellow roses symbolize friends and friendships.
WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE - My husband and I had a wonderful experience with Platinum Party Rentals. Our San Diego wedding could not have been more perfect, Gary the owner was VERY accommodating. Not only did he provide a great service with beautiful chairs and a beautifully decorated arbor he even scattered rose petals leading to the altar. We were so impressed with the level of professionalism, that we even had Platinum Party Rentals set up and provide all of the tables, chairs, lighting, and center pieces (which were absolutely gorgeous) at our beach house in Mission Bay for our reception. If you're looking for party rentals in San Diego, I highly recommend Platinum Party Rentals, because they really put the customer first. Thanks Gary and Platinum Party Rentals for making our San Diego wedding day one we will never forget!
Look No Further! - As far as San Diego party rentals go, this is the only company I could find who would return my calls promptly, send me an itemized estimate, and take the time to explain things to me. We entertain at our house quite often, and we have tried just about everyone's party rental services. Platinum is the one we keep coming back to. The owner sits down with you in the showroom and educates you about what you are getting, rather than just quoting you a price and hanging up on you. The delivery staff is courteous and patient, and the chairs and tables are clean and sturdy. They show up on time and they don't leave until the job is done. I highly recommend this company for party rentals in San Diego.
Alex was absolutely fantastic!! We just got married a week ago, and so glad we found him to play for our ceremony and cocktail hour. We were looking for someone that could play some classical/spanish guitar, some traditional wedding songs (including special requests), and then kick it up a notch with some lively jazz and flamenco for the cocktail hour. Alex nailed it every time. He really set the mood for the wedding and got everyone ready for a fun reception. His girlfriend even helped us cue the bridal party so the timing was perfect! Not only would we recommend Alex to anyone, we would hire him again in a heartbeat. Well done and thanks again!! -Brian F, San Diego, CA
Jeri of Tailored Florals & Event IS THE BEST. Jeri was referred to me for my wedding. I was married at a Estate in Fallbrook in January. I had over 200 guests at my wedding so it was a great undertaking. Jeri was our wedding planner from beginning to end. She listened to all my ideas and gave her input to give me my dream wedding. Her flower designs was exactly what I had hoped for. Whenever, I needed her she was there beyond what I could have imagined. If you looking for a professional, kind, and truly unique wedding planner or a florist then do yourself a favor and give Jeri a call. Truly the best!!!!
AWESOME SERVICE - Platinum rented me all the party rental equipment for my wedding in March at the Del Mar Powerhouse. They were awesome and their prices were wayyyyyy less than others. Their Chiavari chairs were beautiful, and like half the price of everyone else. They setup lighting, a dance floor, and they rented me all of my table linens, glassware and china. Everything looked beautiful. We shopped like every party rental company in San Diego, and at the end of the day, they were the cheapest and appeared to have their act together more than anyone else. It turned out to be the right decision."
