General Info
The 1930's and early 1940's was a peaceful and more prosperous time for Monticello and Johnston's expanded along with it by selling animal feed and processing chickens while also growing the retail store business. At the height of World War II in 1943, Felix Johnston made a very bold decision. He purchased the eight-acre parcel in Monticello and built the store and dining room where they are right now. Due to lumber during the War, Johnston had to build with local and very green wood. Over the years, this lumber cracked and shrunk, adding to the "rustic" look to the building. Right after World War II, so many changes were affecting the country and the local area as well. The economy was growing and changing while inventions were affecting everyday life. With the invention of the home refrigerator, Johnston's slowly dropped out of the Meat Locker business and began to concentrate on their retail store and smoke house processing. By now, Johnston's reputation expanded beyond Monticello as more people experienced the unique flavor of the hickory smoked sausage.

Johnston's states that they sell grass-fed beef...just NOT to the small time consumer! A friend told me that Johnston's sold "grass-fed" ground beef (packaged for you just the way you like it) for $2.00 a lb. so I called and I specifically asked them if the ground beef that I was purchasing came from "strictly" grass-fed cattle. They instantly assured me that it was! They even package it up for purchase just like in the supermarket! NOW all of a sudden when I call to purchase they "hee and haw" about it stating that it isn't grass fed they are feeding to the off the street consumer. The cattle are also being fed GMO based grain! You need to stop advertising it as "grass-fed" and telling people over the phone that it is grass-fed when you are feeding the cows GRAIN! This place doesn't even rate a single star but I couldn't post this without giving at least one. NOT MY CHOICE!

This is the Best Smoked Sausage You Will Ever EAT !!

Johnston's smoked sausage is the best smoked sausage that I have ever had. And I might add....I have had all kinds of smoked sausage in my lifetime, simply because smoked sausage is my favorite.

I started getting this from a friend who would go up to Monticello, FL once every year and take orders from everyone at work. When he got back, mine would be gone so quickly, because I gave some out to the family. Now I have established my own way to have it. Try it...you wont be disappointed....That old fashioned taste never changes.

Thanks Johnston's Locker !!

Love it!!

Johnston's has the BEST smoked, link sausage we've ever tasted! We have it shipped to us. If we have a family get together, breakfast HAS to have this sausage. We are going to be near Monticello, soon, and we will be buying 15 pounds, to bring home for the holidays and to share with friends. We buy the mild, but I think they may still make "hot", as well. The sausage has a great smokey taste that can't be found in grocery stores.
