Founded in 1899, Orange and Rockland Utilities is a wholly owned subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, which is an electric and gas utility company. It serves more than 750,000 people in over five counties in New York, northern New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania through its subsidiaries, Rockland Electric Company and Pike County Light & Power Company. Orange and Rockland Utilities has a work force of more than 1,000 employees. It offers services to commercial, industrial, agricultural and recreational facilities. The company administers a Life Support Equipment Program, which helps customers on electrically operated medical devices to plan for interruption in electric service. Orange and Rockland Utilities works in partnerships with the Rockland Business Association, Bergen Economic Development Corporation, and Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation.
