NorthWestern Energy, also known as NorthWestern Corporation, is a publicly traded company that provides electricity and natural gas to more than 656,000 customers in Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska. Incorporated in 1923, Its Montana regulated electric utility business includes a transmission and distribution network that delivers electricity to over 332, 500 customers and nearly 15 rural electric cooperatives. The division also transits electricity for nonregulated entities owning generation facilities and power marketers serving the Montana electricity market. NorthWestern Energy administers a weatherization program that helps participants to improve the heating efficiency of their homes and reduce energy consumption. The company provides a range of energy management, meter reading and business services. In addition, it specializes in the wholesale transmission of electricity to South Dakota municipalities, state government agencies and agency buildings. NorthWestern Energy s natural gas transmission system consists of approximately 2,000 miles of pipeline. The company also owns and operates a pipeline border crossing through a wholly owned subsidiary, Canadian-Montana Pipe Line Corporation.
