No matter whether an accident involved a freshly licensed teen or an experienced driver, knowing what to do (or not do) is essential to bouncing back.
All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
Being in the auto repair business is the last thing that I thought I would be doing after graduating college. I knew I wanted to do something that was challenging, but also, something with the public. I knew I was a good listener, I knew I was compassionate, I knew I could be calm in the worst of circumstances, I knew that no matter what I did, that I would do it well and I would do it right. Through the last 31 years of being in this business I have met thousands of people. I have made lifelong friends, I have laughed and cried with customers, I have brought them dinner and groceries when I saw the need, I have visited them in hospitals and in rest homes, I have fund-raised for families, given away reliable vehicles, I installed an elevator in a house for a family with two boys with muscular dystrophy after raising over $28,000 to do it, and I have been the comfort to three customers/friends on the last days of their lives. I had the absolute honor of speaking at the funeral of Phil Stassi whom I can still see smiling so big his eyes would close. I would never have met Phil had it not been for running an auto repair shop. So, running a business, especially a family run business like Mission Viejo Transmission, is a gateway to the more important things in life. When I started this shop in 1990, my kids were just babies. They did all the things that kids do. I have a family just like you do. Knowing that the shop was an important job, I took it seriously and have been rewarded by meeting the best people ever. I know what it is like to run a household, I know what it is like to struggle, I know what it is like to sweat out expenses, I know what it is like to be treated fairly, but, most of all, I know what it is like to feel good about doing business with someone who cares about you. My name is Kevin Hurley and yes I am giving my own shop 5 stars. I take every opportunity seriously. Give me the opportunity to help you with your car repairs. We do brakes, alignments, tires, fuel pumps, tune ups, radiators, anything you need. We specialize in transmissions but are AAA Approved for all repairs. We just recently expanded from 4 lifts to 16 lifts You will never be sorry you brought your car to Mission Viejo Transmission. 5+ stars
Since the first time I went to Mission Viejo Transmission I have been impressed. Beyond the great service and feeling appreciated something to this day stands out as being my best experience. My sister was going away to school so my dad told us to get her car checked before her road trip to Arizona. We naturally took the car to Kevin and, not only did he check everything to make sure it was safe, but he went a step further. He asked my sister what she would do if she got a flat tire and had no cell phone service. You guessed it. He took over an hour to show her how to change her tire, BY HERSELF !!! He never touched anything but was right there to show her how to do it and encourage her. He also showed her how to check and add oil, coolant, power steering, brake, and transmission fluid. As she was washing her hands with a big proud smile on her face, Kevin walked up and gave her his card with his cell phone number on it and told her to call anytime day or night if she has a car problem. That was 8 years ago and my sister still has his card in her purse. On the back of the card he wrote "I am proud of you, Good Luck in school !!!" That is why I give Mission Viejo Transmission 5 stars !!! Our whole family will never take there cars anywhere else. Thank you Kevin.
I was skeptical to bring my car into this place at first, when recommended by a friend. I generally go to a dealership to ensure that any work i need done gets done. To my surprise the guys here were awesome. So every few years my s2000 will have the same problem with it and needs to be adjusted. These guys did the job, amazingly fast and charged me less than half of what a dealership would. I didn't have to sign a ton of paperwork, or sit around forever. They were on top of everything the whole time and now my car has never run better. I find it hard to actually find a auto shop that is trust worthy, but I finally did. I will bring my car to this shop when ever I have trouble with my car now.
I am glad I found these people. Very honest and friendly, I took my car to the dealer for service, I was told I needed my front and rear brakes ( $ 650.00) I called Midas in Mission Viejo at 25902 El Paseo MIssion Viejo, CA 92691 phone #949-582-5483 to get my brakes checked. After the inspection I was told by the manager who has been in the business for over 30 year (I don't need any brake work, I have over 70% brakes left) WOW the dealer tells me I need my brakes done right now with 29500 miles and MIDAS MISSION VIEJO tells me I don't need a brake job at all. I wish there were more people like these in the world. I will be their customer from now on. Thank you Miads
Feedback from Auto Care Experts was timely. They kept in touch with status of my classic car (Body work & Paint). Spent more than I intended to, but they did a fine job of matching my "brilliant red" paint. Also - they painted an area that I was going to do myself, and this saved me lots of time. Many thanks for that. After my upholstery shop finishes, then it goes back to A.C.E. to re-install my rear window. Lastly, having been a purchasing agent most of my working career, I solicited bids from 4 body shops. A.C.E. was the only one interested in doing the work. Again, many thanks. I would recommend them to anyone looking for bodywork and/or paint.
We have been using Kevin at Mission Viejo Transmission for about 30 years, so it’s been a long time relationship. They have worked on every vehicle that we have had, including a work truck. If there was something that he cannot do, he will recommend a trustworthy place for us to go to. I trust & value his expertise emphatically. The work he does for us is always perfect. I cannot recall having to take anything back unless it is meant to be adjusted after a certain amount of driving time. I highly recommend him and hope he stays in business for a long time because he is a friendly, happy person that is a pleasure to go and see.
These guys are fabulous! Pricing is the best I've seen and they won't jab you with work that doesn't need to be done! Went there to get a second quote on work that another place wanted to charge me $1700 for...then lowered the price to $1500....But was unable to do the engine steam clean ($150-$175 if done by someone else)... The owner noted work that didn't need to be done and explained why, and found a gasket that needed to be replaced badly that the other guy didn't catch... plus the engine steam cleaning was included! Just over $800!!! I have just found my new mechanic! Won't go anywhere else!
I stumbled upon this place kind of by accident. I did a google search for a Repair Shop and there was a bunch on Via Fabricante. I decided to go with Rossi Auto Repair. This place is family owned and operated, and it is in my opinion a relief to have finally found that little shop that gets the job done right the first time with no B.S. attached! He even saved the part that he replaced to show me what he did and why! What other shop does that!? My advice is if you too are looking for that quality shop, than bypass all the future hassle and just check this place out. Your Welcome
I have been using Kevin at Mission Viejo Transmission for about 6 years, so it is a long time relationship. They have worked on every vehicle that we have had. If there is something that he cannot do, he will recommend a trustworthy place for us to go. I trust and value his judgment and expertise emphatically. The work he does for us is always perfect. I highly recommend him, and hope he stays in business for a long time, because he is truly a friendly, happy person that is a pleasure to go and see.
I brought my car in because I thought I needed my brake pads changed, but they checked it out and told me that I could still drive on the pads I had for another 7,000-10,000 miles. Apparently, certain pads sound squeaky even if they aren't worn out yet. (that was the squeaking that prompted me to take my car in) They were completely honest and amazingly efficient!! This is definitely my new car repair shop for years to come! No hassles, no pressure, just honest service!
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
