The parking lot security cameras are fake. My car was vandalized in front of a camera and the police told me the cameras are fake so no evidence could be obtained. I asked management about it and they said it wasn't the owner's priority. They just bought new flat screen tv's, cardio equipment and converted their basketball court to a boxing workout room, but they couldn't install functioning cameras. Good place to workout though, I'm just not impressed with member security.
I worked out at this gym for a total of 7 years because it was directly next to my work. I would prepay a year in advance to get a discount and avoid the hassle of month to month billing. I thought people knew me there and we were friends.
After moving on from my job I decided to change gyms because it wasn't convenient anymore and that was really all it had going for it. Every other major gym in town has a better facility. I still had 9 months on my membership but decided to sign up elsewhere.
This fall I received a call from a collection agency looking for Charles (not my name). They tell me I am 3 months past due on my auto renewal at Gold's Gym. I tell them that this can't be right, I will just call over and talk to one of the many people there that I know so well and resolve the problem. I call over and the person that signed me up and is a friend on facebook (and typed my name in wrong) picked up the phone. We talked about the problem.
I informed him that my name was put into the system wrong and that they had the wrong address, they used Street instead of Terrace. All my mail was going to a neighbor a block over. They did have the phone number correct but never called me to inform me of the renewal before sending it to the collection agency.
After a polite discussion he informed me there was nothing they could do. "Once it had gone to collection agency it is out of our hands." The Gold's employee says, "Sorry we couldn't help Charles" and hung up the phone.
Just today I finally paid the bill since I didn't want my good credit score to be affected. I have never written a good or bad review about anything or anyone but I felt this story needed to be told. Please choose another gym where being a long standing customer actually means something.
