When first entering Qticles on a mid-weekday morning, the room was dimly lit causing me to think they had not yet officially opened. However, within seconds I was warmly greeted by the owner and upon glancing behind her, I saw that there were three employees sitting calmly at their stations, talking softly to each other, waiting to start their work day. The bright orange hue that serves as the backsplash to this open and roomy space creates a dual energy to the business. Somehow it generates both a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere in which to spend an hour or two indulging in manicures, pedicures and facials. Being in the Pacific Beach neighborhood for six years, Qticles has seen a variety of clientele from beach wanderers to wedding parties to groups of friends looking for a fun girls' night out. The owner casually chatted with me about nail polish tips and colors and was comfortable letting me explore her salon. So while they welcome walk-ins, judging from her friendly demeanor, I can see why they have repeat customers who rely on them for their pampering needs. On a relaxed block in an eclectic area of town, mornings find crowds trickling in at a slower pace. But as I was leaving Qticles, three girls walked in, each wanting a French manicure, and the nail technicians that were relaxing earlier were quick in prepping their stations for their first of what I would assume many customers of the day.
When I entered the salon, owner, Phillip Nguyen was already in the midst of giving a pedicure to a loyal customer. Before opening his own salon in Pacific Beach three years ago, he had been working in La Jolla where this particular customer had been a client. When he moved, so did she. Customer loyalty is one of the draws to this tucked away salon on Cass Street. Although, at first skewed from view, this doesn’t keep customers, old and new, tracking it down for a pleasing pampering experience. The salon is open and bright, playing easy listening music and providing an overall relaxing vibe and friendly engagement from Phillip. The salon caters to the nail care of both women and men. Phillip advises that many men from the nearby golf course do need their nails buffed from time to time. And the beaches can do a number on people’s feet, leading them to come see him to smooth and beautify them. When he’s not busy on the nails end of things, he also does facial waxing and is a hair stylist. Although the salon does have four nail technicians, it’s fair to say that Phillip is the jack of all trades able to perform any service for his customers coming in for nail, skin or hair treatment. Judging from his easygoing personality, I can see why he has loyal customers who see him for repeat visits and why a newcomer might make the decision to come back.
I was in San Diego for a meeting and needed a manicure badly. The concierge at my hotel recommended this salon. It was convenient so I gave it a try. My manicurist, Lynne, did a great job with some pretty bad nails. My polish is still good over a week later. As I waited to have my manicure, Badri, one of the stylists, asked me in a very gentle way if I was pleased with how my hair looked. The truth is that I had it cut only a week before by someone new near my home and she did a terrible job and I knew it. It was refreshing to be approached by someone who clearly not only enjoyed working with hair but had a sense of style and vision. I asked her to explain to me what she thought was the problem and she nailed my concerns, nicely, right on the money. We made an arrangement for me to see her for a cut and style and I am very very happy with my hair. I was refreshing to go to a salon that appeared to care how I really looked and what suited my face/style. The atmosphere was relaxing and I enjoyed every minute of my time there. There prices were certainly reasonable and I have paid much more for way less attention to detail. My San Diego trip was only the beginning of two weeks of work that has me in Paris and Cairo. I can tell you that I haven't given my nails or my hair one disparaging look since my visit to Salon Identity. I would highly recommend it.
My daughter got married in March, with San Diego being a destination wedding for us, since we are from Dallas. Tanya, the owner of Salon Identity and her staff were incredible. Having had many conversations over the phone with Tanya and her attention to detail, reassured me, that we would be fine with using this salon after checking out over 50 in the area. Tanya did an amazing job on my daughters hair, as well as the makeup artist, she looked flawless. My daughter had so many comments on her hair and makeup as well as the rest of the wedding party who had hair and makup done. They were all so very nice and provided a real relaxed atmosphere on what could be a very nervous day. Tanya promised to have the entire wedding party out the door on time and she delivered to the minute. I would recommend Salon Identity to any Bride who is looking for a top notch place. Thank you so much to Tanya and the entire staff for helping to make it a perfect day!
It was my first time in for a pedi/mani with my mom and I didn't like the service I was given... the lady I got seemed like she was in a rush and made me uncomfortable. Not only did she make me stay in those massage chairs to do my manicure, but she cut my finger while trimming my cuticles. She spent more time trying to clean it up with alcohol than she did on actually painting my nails, probably thinking that I wouldn't notice. It wouldn't stop bleeding till an hour after I left!! The pedicure part wasn't so bad, but I don't think she knew how to use the crackle nail polish because she dabbed on a big glob of it and out of all 10 toes, only about 5 "cracks" appeared. Talk about epic fail. I was so disappointed.
Oh. My. Goodness. I seriously just had the best pedicure EVER. Talk about attentive. And meticulous. And attention to detail!!! You know that little stripe down the side of your toenail that is ALWAYS missing polish?? Yeah, so not the case here. And the massage??? To die for. Pressure points ladies, pressure points. I got a manicure at the same time, and boy, that hand massage was out of this world. I just had abdominal surgery 10 days ago, and can't twist/bend very well. These ladies were completely accommodating!! She moved to both sides of me, just so I wouldn't have to twist my hands to the same side for the mani. Highly, highly recommend this place. I live in IB, and will definitely be coming here from now on!!!
I tried Apollo for the first time on Friday night. I got there just before they closed with out an appointment, but they welcomed me anyway. The salon is new and clean and nicely decorated. The massage chairs are awesome. The owner was very nice and checked in with me regularly. My pedicurist was Tracy and she did an amazing job. She was very sweet and gave me one of the best foot massages I've ever had. She also did a great job on my toes. They are beautiful! I decided to go back in on Sunday for a gel polish manicure. Again, I walked in with out an appointment and was seen right away by Kim. She also did a wonderful job on my manicure. I am very happy and will return again and again!!
Was in San Diego for a few days and went to the yellow pages to find "salons in San Diego" based upon reviews that were posted I chose Salon Identity...I'm pleased that I did. Just wanted a wash & blow dry. Badri not only gave me a fabulous style she also recommended a bang trim. I am always skeptical, being a vacationer and all...But something told me to go for it and I did...My haircut is just what I have been after but unable to get for some strange reason...Badri did wonders with my hair. Thanks Badri! Looking forward to visiting San Diego for my next hair cut...PS The best mexican restaurant around the corner from you...El Vitral is amazingly delish...
I got the most beautiful eyebrow wax ever for $9 dollars! Wanda the lady that does waxing does the best eyebrow waxing. The arc was sooooo Hollywood. Love it there at Fabulous Nails. Wanda is so professional and detail oriented love her work. Just as there shop in Escondido was an excellent professional Nail service La Jolla's UTC Fabulous Nails knows how to take care of your messed up nails. I went in and told them I needed a Pedicure and Manicure and right away was helped. They don't speak the best English but their level of work makes up for it. My Warmest Regards to the Fabulous Nails Team :)
I went to this spa with my mom for and mother/daughter pedicure. At first we were a tad skeptical when we saw the outside of the spa. However, when we walked in, it was another world. The atmosphere, decor all lead to a sigh of relief and relaxation. The staff is extremely nice and pleasant to be around. They made sure we were comfortable and enjoying every minute of our pedicure. They took their time and made sure the job was done right. I have to admit the water they offer is also pretty good. Water mixed with mint and lime = refreshing. We will highly recommend Suki Day Spa to our friends and family.
