All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
My search for a new factory ordered pickup truck started nearly three years ago. During my search I spoke to numerous sales people from the three main manufacturers, Ford, Chevy and Dodge. I would say that about 20% of the sales people knew there product from a technical perspective. The remaining 80% either BS’d me on my questions or simply never got back to me. Eventually I settled on a Ford F350 diesel and my search to refine the factory build spec and the dealership that I would buy the truck began. I spoke to Ford dealers from Michigan, to Texas, to Arizona and Northern California. Some were technically good and offered me a reasonably price. However the best salesperson and the best dealership that I found was Barry Greenblatt at Kearney Pearson Ford This was amazing considering that I live in San Diego and was very willing to get on a plane to pickup my new truck. Barry was technically very good. I was asking him some very difficult technical questions. If he didn’t know then he did not BS me, he would research and would promptly get back to me with the answer. My Questions continued for a LONG time, he never relented on giving me premium service. He was never pushy, and always extremely professional and friendly. The pricing that he gave me was competitive with anywhere that I found in the United States. All of the staff that I ever dealt with during my purchase at Kearney Pearson were also extremely helpful and professional. On the day that we collected the truck we had to meet with the finance people. Having bought a new car before I was dreading this. Other dealerships will tell you things like “Unless you have this teflon treatment then your car is going to look terrible in a year” etc etc and give you the hard sell on extended warranty’s. Kearney Pearson was nothing like that!.. It was a very pleasant experience!.. in the end I had to ask him about an extended warranty which I did in fact buy because he tailor made it for me. As far as after sales is concerned they continue to be amazing… extremely helpful. Even Barry who has his sale done, continues to make himself readily available to answer any questions that I may have, and help with anything! All in all I highly recommend Kearney Pearson Ford!
Hello everybody, my name is Albert, I am lead tech and Manager at A to Z auto Repair, and I want to thank all those honest customers that have entrusted me with the care of their vehicles, like Mr. Mike says, I am very friendly, he says we are lazy, even though we started to work on his car the same day even when he didn't have an appointment, and I called him about four times throughout the process to explain the problems with the vehicle, which he purchased at an auction and unfortunately was ripped off, Mike is the typical immature know it all customer that tries to get friendly with the mechanics in order to have us do dishonest work so that he may gain out of other people's loss, just because you got a bad deal on this vehicle and you can't recognize it, it doesn't mean you have to discredit somebody's profession, I deal with people like Him all day, every day, we have over 20 car auctions in the area, and way to many " car flippers" who want to pay people like myself to do half-assed work in order to save them money and allow the to get rid of the car at someone else's expense, at least I am honest about what I do, and if you are a customer like this man, that is looking for a chump to do his dirty work, don't bother coming to my shop, because even though we are the underdogs here in Otay Mesa due to the fact that we are the only established, licensed and bonded shop, we do not need customers that are dishonest and criminals, because after all what you are doing is a crime, and we are not interested in your business, there are plenty of other junk yard mechanics out there willing to take your money, As for the rest of you honest, hardworking people, I you are tired of being overcharged and treated like a walking dollar sign, come see me, Albert, at A to Z auto repair, and have a great day.
"The" Best New Car Sales Experience When selecting my new car, I wanted a vehicle that is safe, reliable, stylish, and high-quality. And I wanted a brand that I can be loyal to in the future. I found all those qualities with the acquisition of my 2013 Volkswagen CC Sport at Kearny Mesa Volkswagen. I made my first new car purchase in the 1970s, and have bought or leased many cars since then. In making those new car decisions over the years, I worked with many dealerships. I am pleased to say that Kearny Mesa VW is the best experience I have ever had with a car dealer. The credit for my positive review goes to Tony Cavaliere, the representative who helped me select just the right vehicle. Tony listened to every word I said, and when I described what I wanted, he confirmed every detail, and identified a vehicle that I am now thrilled to call my own. Tony Cavaliere and Kearny Mesa VW have set the bar high for customer sales, service, and appreciation. Tony personalized the selection process as though he was buying a car for himself or a family member. What impressed me was his integrity and candor about everything having to do with the vehicles I considered, including cost/financing, performance, options, and other factors, without trying to embellish anything. Tony is a real professional who took time to understand my wishes, and help me through the decision process at my own pace. There was never any pressure from Tony at any time during the sales experience – a refreshing change from my past car-buying experiences. If you decide you want a VW product, I strongly recommend Kearny Mesa Volkswagen for a pleasant, honest, and fair experience.
Thanks to yp I stumbled upon Clairemont Auto Care and I'm so glad I did! Before going here, I set up an appointment and brought my car in by 12AM. I had just moved back from el cajon so my car had been out of commission and under PNO status for quite some time. Thanks to Clairemont Auto Care, they changed my oil, got my car smogged and certified and not to mention, they also repaired a busted regulator on my driver side window which prevented it from powering up. Honestly I had this problem for over a year not knowing who could fix this for a reasonable price. Luckily, they had the part available and were able to get everything done by closing time. When I brought my car in, Al explained to me that it would take a couple hours to work on since one of his repair guys wouldn't be arriving till noon so he wanted to make sure I had another means of transportation which I did. I basically had left my car in their shop and Al kept me posted throughout the day to let me know what was going on and how much the job would cost. For a new regulator, smog check and oil change, I paid about $289. At first I was a little hesitant to leave my car there, but as soon as I got back, I was just relieved that all the work was done and I didn't have to worry about my window and smog certificate anymore. I'll have to say Clairemont Auto Care is a pretty reliable Auto Repair shop and not to mention honest. I would definitely bring my car back for service next time.
I am one of the most skeptical, untrusting, "how are they going to screw me" people around, so needless to say, when we drove down from the Riverside area to look at a used car that I had been trying to find, I was, as usual, ready for the normal used car experience. I still have a hard time believing that the car is sitting in my garage, and that it was more stressful buying my big screen TV at Best Buy than it was to purchase this car!!! I was working with Tommy who handles the internet sales, (I think) and he was super nice, yet professional, NOT overbearing or pushy at all and totally the opposite of what the stereotype car sales person is portrayed as. We talked price for, uhm, maybe 15 minutes after a good test drive and closed the deal with a handshake. We then went in to talk to the finance manager Mike and it was so relaxed and casual and, once again, unpressured that I kept waiting for something to go wrong. NOTHING HAPPENED!! Walked out with the keys, 2 year extended warranty and $1000 under Kelly Blue Book price for retail sale of that car. If your buying a car, this place Rocks!! Don't know about the rest of the crew, but Tommy and Mike definitely will earn your respect and loyalty. Thanks guys. Hope you get to read this.
We are very satisfied with Midway Jeep Chrysler of San Diego during the recent purchased of my new Jeep (7/2012). The staff was courteous; knowledgeable of their product and spent time in several test- drives. And when it came to the sale: they were upfront and expedited a cosmetic correction on the purchased vehicle. What set Midway apart from other dealerships I have experienced were their follow-up telephone calls and e-mails to ensure my satisfaction with their product they sold me. The Salesmen there greeted my wife and I verbally and with a smile. They made us feel welcomed. Never got the feeling I was in a ‘shark tank’, but always felt comfortable. About the Jeep Rubicon Unlimited: I was very surprise how well and smooth this SUV is to drive. In addition, it has so many amenities inside like most luxury vehicles. As I have learned, searching on the Internet helps a consumer become well informed, but for me seeing and experiencing the Jeep in person convinced me this was the right vehicle for my family. Midway Jeep Chrysler of San Diego has a great reputation for a reason. I would recommend other to shop at Midway Jeep. Note: I drove approximately 30 miles to this dealership because of previous reviews I have read and glad I did!
These guys are the BEST!!!! I found them through the car talk site and went to them because of the great reviews from others. Let me say the other reviews were right on the mark. I delt with Jeff the manager who is a very kind, honest, and easy to talk to guy who really knows his stuff. I got my transition fluid changed with no problems and at a great price. He also alerted me to some other work I should consider getting done in the near future (my car has about 150k miles on it). But there was absolutely no pressure from him regarding further repairs. He was simply bringing some things to my attention that my car needs. I know a thing or two about cars, and I take good care of my car so I know that the items he brought to my attention were completely legit. Moreover, they didn't try to sell me on useless crap, like other shops (oil change places mostly) do. For the first time in my life I have found myself a shop and mechanic I can trust!! I would recommend them to my friends and family and would even feel good about sending my wife to them alone. (nothing bad about women, but some Unscrupulous places try to take advantage of people who might not know any better). Jeff is worth his weight in gold and this place is great!!! <<
I took my son's '04 Ford Ranger Edge to Nick at FTS Auto on Convoy because it would only make half power upon acceleration. It had been to 2 other shops that had given up on the problem. Nick ran diagnostics on the truck with an on board scanner but found no abnormal conditions, except that the truck still had low power. Nick and his crew didn't give up like to other shops did. It took many hours troubleshooting but they found that the computer needed updated and found a bad crankshaft pulley. He repaired all problems and charged a very fair labor rate for hours spent. Nick even repaired a small coolant leak and never charged for parts or labor. The truck has never run better. I would refer FTS Auto to anyone because of their honesty and expert knowledge in the field. Rest assured you will be treated fairly and not charged for parts you do not need. We will continue to use them for all our automotive needs. Thank you FTS Auto, from another satisfied customer.
I recently had my car fixed after a break-in and this place came highly recommended through my insurance company. I did what any smart consumer does first, I looked them up on Yelp and was pleasantly surprised. I was matched with exemplary customer service, professionalism, and effective communication throughout the whole process (with photo updates). I can safely say that my 5 star rating is clearly not a high enough rating for the experience they provided, and all of it while their receptionist was on her honeymoon, shout out to still handling it and making her look good! :) The majority of my interaction was with Mike, he was informative, precise, and stuck to his date of completion. I won't be taking my car anywhere else from now on. If you want someone who is knowledgable AND still delivers a quality product, this is the place, they can definitely put their money where their mouth is! -Satisfied Customer
I went to Luis Auto Repair and Smog Shop recently for a smog on my car after seeing his ad in the Pennysaver. It was a little hard to find seeing how I ended up driving by it a couple of times and once I got there it was a little dirty, which was kind of a letdown. However after being approached by the owner Luis and talking with him for a bit, my entire perspective on the place changed. Just conversing with him assured me that coming to this location was the right decision. Luis was very helpful, knowledgeable, and credible. He took great care of me and got me in and out quicker than I thought it would take. And I found out that not only does he do smog checks, he also does diagnostics too! Which is great news for me seeing as how my car breaks down on me quite often. I have definitely found my new mechanic to take care of my baby! When you go in, make sure to ask for Luis!!!
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
