Business Description
Wales House is a fully furnished historic home with 10 guest rooms and many spacious and inviting areas providing the charm of an old world inn. As the first and longest established guest house in the University of Minnesota area, we have hosted almost 5000 guests from over 67 countries, fostering a truly international community in this turn-of-the-century home. For the past 20 years, we have been the lodging of choice for visiting scholars, researchers, physicians and others for stays ranging from two nights to one year. Many of our guests return for more visits once they experience the friendly atmosphere, appealing spaces and great value for which Wales House has become known. Please note, we are NOT a B&B, but a guest house. Accordingly, we offer a light, organic continental breakfast.

A great place to stay

A quite place with nice rooms and very pleasant public areas, including a tidy kitchen and comfortable sitting rooms. Lodgers are mostly academics visiting the University of Minnesota which is within a short walking distance, and are great company. The owners, who occupy a separate section of the house, are friendly and very helpful. I would never consider staying anywhere else in Minneapolis.

An unchanged bed, lousy attitude, and your breakfast is on the counter...

I've stayed in and reviewed a lot of B&Bs through the years--all over North and Central America. This is just not any place that I could recommend...beginning with the hosts. As long as you don't complain about anything, you'll get along fine with them. But, watch out, if you don't. They sulk. I witnessed them (two floors away) yell at a guest, call him/her names, and accuse the guest of stealing. The reason: The guest left his room key in his room when he checked out. The poor guy left with his head down. I tracked him down afterwards only to find that the guest had given two days advance notice of his wish to cut his stay short when the facility didn't meet his expectations. The owner refused to refund his money. That was totally uncalled for. Accommodations are so/so. It's a long walk up the stairs to your room and shared bath--in your stocking feet no less. No one makes your bed for you--let alone change your bedding. How this qualifies as a bed & BREAKFAST is beyond my review. Breakfast consists of store brand items on the counter and in the fridge. Nothing hot. And, nothing served to you.
