The Hub is a Dud

I have never felt compelled to write a review online until now. I went into the Hub hoping to buy a bike. I brought my Bianchi Boardwalk with me (new, few miles, tuned up) hoping to trade it in for credit toward a new Bianchi. Silly me: I thought because the Hub was a co-op, I would be given a fair trade on my Boardwalk. I was offered $80. Beware those of you who do not look like avid bikers. Beware women! The sales department at The Hub reminded me of some car dealers: they assume you don't know much! When I recounted my story to a friend who is an avid biker he said, ""Doesn't surprise me about the Hub, they do that."" BTW: I sold my Boardwalk for $250. Even thought I live just a few blocks from The Hub, I will NEVER do business there.

Solid Bike Shop

My first experience here wasn't great. I showed up looking for a new bike and spent ten minutes there without anyone asking to help me or even noticing I was there. I bought my new bike somewhere else but I returned there to sell an old bike. They have been great from that point on. Very friendly and helpful. Their service dept. knows what they are doing and their selection is good. Their prices on their used bikes seem a little high, but it's not a dealbreaker.

All sorts of bikes

This place is a co-op and certainly has a mix of bikes and patrons. I think this is a strong point to the store. It is worth checking out whether you are looking for a road bike or a used commuter or beater. I have a nice road bike, but have spent most of my life (and still do) on some real old bikes for commuting. I wouldn't have felt comfortable taking some of those in for service in other shops. I feel fine at the Hub. Also, they have an organized used parts section in the back. I was able to pick up a good ""new"" quill stem for my old bike at a fraction of the cost of new.
