Worst service

My wife and I go out to eat fairly often and decided on Sushi Tango because we had been there a few weeks ago and loved it. Instead of sitting at the bar, which we did last time, we put our names in for a table and were seated within 5 minutes.
That's when things began to go downhill. Our server took well over 10 minutes to come over and introduce herself - it was not overly crowded at all. Several times she walked by without even aknowledging us. After taking our drink order, it took her another 15 minutes before she brought them over. Our appetizer took over 15 minutes as did our sushi - which did not taste fresh and was doused in a thick sauce.
My wife and I never complain about poor service and are always generous tippers no matter what, but this pushed us over the edge. We asked for the manager and she apologized profusely and gave us a 20% off coupon.
What we wanted was an intimate dinner with great service. We planned to spend a good amount of money for a long, satisfying dinner but were left vastly dissapointed.

Great place to get sushi in uptown

I've been going to this Tango for about a year since I moved to Minneapolis and I love it. The staff is wonderful and the sushi is always top quality and done to perfection.

The happy hour is a good deal as well. Keep up the good work, guys!

Sushi Tango screwed up our bill and ran extra charges on my cc. I went to restaurant the following day to speak with management and he refused to accommodate their mistake which was an extra charge of $119 on top of our $219 bill, but that’s ok, it says a lot about how they treat their loyal Happy Hour customers. Even a gift certificate would have deemed grateful, but that was never offered. I been a loyal customer for many years and this has been the first incident and also my last there, the group of people with me that night are also avoiding the place….. on a better note, great services are always available at ChaingMaiThai and FujiYa for happy hours…. Cheers. - GOGz

Really hit or miss

I have been a patron of Sushi Tango many times. I do like the fish and food but your service may not be fast or friendly. At this point I request a server that I know because of the past 10 times I have been there most of the wait staff has been rude and slow. When I sit at a table and everyone who has a different waiter has nice warm towels and refilled water and I sit quietly wondering if my server will come back. Overall very inconsistent service. I do enjoy when I have a long time and a few drinks. If it is not too busy the sushi chefs are very nice and have introduced me to several new types of sushi. I have never been served ""bad"" food but the service leaves much to be desired.

Great Food and Great Chefs

We stop in at Tango in uptown every time we are in town and have never had a bad experience. We love the new store and have a great time with the chefs and staff. We've had sushi across the country and this compares with any of the better restaurants we have encountered. We really appreciate not having to order off the menu and just let the chefs create items for us. Thank You Tango and we will be back. Plus, we will pass the word on about your great food and hospitality

2 noteworthy highlights-
1) OMG, no joke, the fish was so squishy/mushy. I swear I didn't need to use my teeth, I could just mash the sashimi with my tongue against the roof of my mouth. Tasteless. Disgusting!
2) Service was slow and inattentive. We had to ask for our order to be taken, for more water, to take our plates, and tfor he check

Lastly, is Rick James' ""Superfreak"" a song you'd like to listen to during your dining experience?

eh..not the best, but it will do in a pinch

Kind of seems like the sort of place you would see on a college campus. The service is less than stellar and the sushi is pretty mediocre for sure. Good Tofu appetizer, decent veggie eggrolls, OK veggie tempura. The rolls are where they lose me here. The Nori is really rubbery and they really cheapen-up on the avocado if you order avo rolls. It's mostly rice. Took about 15 minutes to get a waitress to order.

A little quiet on weeknights

The key to sushi is freshness so when I don't see a large crowd at a sushi place it make me a little nervous that they don't turn the sushi around that fast. Food was tasty though and our group of 4 people had a great time. Hard to find the first time since its up in the back corner on the second floor.

Woodbury location: Me and couple friends decided to grab some sushi before we went to see a movie. We sat in the bar area and ordered dynamite rolls and a crunchy roll. Instead of getting the four dynamite rolls we ordered, we got two and I was still charged for the four. There was some sort of miscommunication with the chefs (although they were barely a feet away). I tried to correct the chef but he ignored me. The waitress was also VERY RUDE. In other words, I would NEVER visit Sushi Tango ever again. Unless you know the chefs personally of course. They gave their friends, who were sitting the next table over lots of attention and extra sushi. SO NEVER AGAIN....I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT AT ALL!

Overpriced, bad food, bad service

I went to Sushi Tango with a date and it was a referral from a friend who said it was ""excellent."" When we walked in there were only a few people seated and we were seated right next to all the people in the restaurant (when there were many open private tables available). My date had lipstick on his glass and didn't notice until he had drank almost his half his beer. When we notified the waitress she didn't seem concerned about this and instead asked ""why he was wearing lipstick."" She threw his entire drink out without offering him a new one! No discount or anything and then just said, ""yeah that's gross!"" The appetizers were the best part of the dinner and were reasonably priced. We both ordered the steak terriyaki which was close to $20 and was very disappointing. It tasted like a $2 round steak and neither of us ate it, yet we were not offered anything else. It took about 45 minutes to get our food and it was not busy. Sushi was not the best. Wouldn't recommend.

As small-time sushi fans wanting a bigger experience, we asked for help with the menu at Sushi Tango. We were given great help in choosing our sushi (some simple and some a little out of the ordinary) by the friendly staff. We encountered no problems with rudeness and our water was refilled often in the time we were there.

Everything we ordered was simply wonderful. The pork dumplings were flavorful, rather than generic and bland. The tempura squid was fantastic, with more emphasis put on the meat of the squid than the tempura batter.

We had the Philly maki (salmon with cream cheese), the yellowfin maki, and the more adventurous Eel maki. All were delicious in their own right - but the eel was honestly the best!

The meal was finished off with a generous bowl of Green Tea ice cream. Quite tasty.

Horrible Customer Service/Marginal Sushi/Overpriced

My wife and I have dined there several times. Their major redeeming quality is that they have open tables during times that Figlios has a wait. Our service last visit was so bad that we won't be going back. When we complained to the manager she made us feel like we were the problem. It was completely unacceptable and frankly insulting. Stay away.

Poor service

I have been here a couple times. Everytime I have been there the service is terrible. The last time i went the hostess was very rude. She didn't excuse her self and reached over the top of my table (with my food on it) to light the candle. You have to get the servers attention to get water refilled, drinks, and more food. The servers have attitude like they are better than you. The happy hour prices are good. The sushi has been okay on occasion but usually it is below average.

Best Sushi Restaurant in MIDWEST

I absolutely LOVE Sushi Tango. The food and sushi is GREAT! I'm a sushi fanatic, and I've tried many sushi bars around the country and none can compare to it. I recommend Sushi Tango to everybody. The fish is high quality, its spendy (but you get what you pay for) and they have excellent happy hour prices. Its very upscale and trendy. And not to mention, they have a great chef in the back! My food is ALWAYS fresh and the presentation of it is very appealing.

Wouldn't recommend it

I am an avid sushi eater and have tried many places. I grabbed some lunch ""to go"" from Sushi Tango today. The service was terrible if you can imagine that, since a ""to go"" order shouldn't require much effort. First, I called earlier in the morning with some menu questions and was treated very rudely ( I think I was told ""how would I know, I don't have a menu in front of me) , I then went in at noon to place my order and the doors were locked. I waited outside until about 12:05 while servers and other employees walked by the door several times without acknowledging my presence. Finally they let me in, I ordered, and came back 30 minutes later and my food was still not ready (I was one of 3 people in the restaurant). Once I received it, I was not impressed. The portions were small for the price and the fish was unimpressive. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I think i'll stick with Fuji Ya down the road and would suggest you do the same.

Would go again

I tried Sushi Tango for the first time this summer and I was very pleased. My friend and I went during one of their happy hour specials and were plesantly surprised by the specials. It was very affordable for a slightly upscale sushi restaurant and we had great service. We both had the california rolls which were aboslutely fabulous. I would definitely go again. It was a great atmosphere and the service and food were great!

Young people, be warned.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to simply expect good food and good service. I took my friend from out of town to Sushi Tango in Woodbury expecting a nice dinner. Our waitress was incredibly rude and took forever to take our order. She also seemed annoyed by me asking for some hot towls. Right off the bat I knew not to expect much from her. Food was good but we waiting way too long for being one of 3 tables in the entire restaurant. On top of this all, our table of 4 was service charged 18%! I've visited many times with my parents and have never been charged. Maybe because we all happened to be younger looking? I understand it is stated on the menu, but i've waited tables for over 6 years and know that if you're going to add gratuity, at least earn it and be consistent about it! Don't assume all young people are bad tippers! I will not ever return, nor I recommend this place to anyone.

Great place for a weekly meet-up with friends.

The Sushi Tango on Hennepin is a great place to eat sushi late. We get together with our friends there every Sunday night for the happy hour sushi and drink specials. I think the servers even know us by name :)

Not a good choice

Only in a serious pinch for sushi I'd maybe drive myself back to Sushi Tango Woodbury. First visit included, an insect in my drink, a large bone in my Sashimi and seaweed paper was so dry it crackled when I chewed it. Oh not to mention the extra long wait for our food. note - we were the only patrons in the resturant. Decor was great.

I had never had sushi before that actually contained fish, as I am vegetarian and would normally only get vegetarian sushi rolls. When I went to Sushi Tango I was feeling adventurous so I tried the Philly Roll, and it was absolutely delicious. I also shared an order of the asparagus and edamame, which were both excellent. Our waitress was adorable and very helpful. I told her I was feeling a bit apprehensive about eating raw fish, so she stuck by our table until I'd taken my first bite so she could watch my reaction and make sure I liked it. It was so good and I've been craving more sushi ever since! I don't have anything bad to say about Sushi Tango--great service, great atmosphere, great food!
