Vaccination
When taking your pet by car, be sure that the places you have mapped out are pet friendly (i.e. rest stops and hotels). Take along proof of their rabies vaccination, not only the tag, but a signed rabies certificate. Be sure to bring plenty of your pet’s regular food and medication. Changing your pet’s diet during travel can cause severe digestive discomfort. Some states require a health certificate, even if you are just passing through. Please check the requirements of all the states that you will be traveling through. Every state has different ordinances; some may fine you, others may quarantine your pet. If your pet is not yet microchipped, you may want to have this quick procedure done prior to departure. That way, if you were to become separated and the collar and tags lost, anyone who finds your pet can still get in contact with you.

Declawing
Our position on declawing cats: In keeping with our Fear Free protocols and our oath to “do no harm’ Minnehaha Animal Hospital will not perform declawing on cats. We believe this procedure is not necessary and causes long term pain and behavioral issues. There are many alternatives available to deal with the issues that scratching causes. We are happy to discuss nail trimming, nail caps, redirecting behavior and reinforcing the use of scratching posts.

Laboratory Services
When your pet isn’t feeling well we need the results of diagnostic tests now! With our new VetScan chemistry and hematology analyzers we can have the results of many blood tests within hours.
X-Ray
They are used to evaluate skeletal issues such as fractures, spinal disc disease, arthritis and screening for hip dysplasia. They can also be used to evaluate the heart, lungs, abdominal structures such as the stomach and intestines and to look for bladder or kidney stones. We also utilize digital radiography, for better x-ray diagnostics and ease of image transfer between our locations. We also have a digital dental x-ray machine that is used during dental cleaning to evaluate the health of teeth and the bony structures of the mouth.
Dental Radiology
Blood pressure checks, glaucoma screening and EKGs are performed in house, as well as both standard and dental x-rays. We are also affiliated with a veterinary radiologist and outside laboratory for next day consultations.
Microchipping
Every pet should have some permanent identification. Any pet can lose their collar, open a gate or even your happy house cat could slip out the door. Protect them!
