Mathnasium

Overpriced for little service in return. We are not good at teaching math, so we thought professional tutoring would be beneficial to our 7-year-old son. We stopped by and spoke with Loretta and explained our needs. We wanted someone to work individually with him, so he learns not only math but to enjoy math. We didn't want him to just go there and work alone on solving problems. We were told that they could provide a more one-on-one with him, so we signed up for the 3-month start-up. Several times, I stopped by early to pick him up and observed the interactions. Most of the time, he was just working on problems in his book alone. When he had a question, he raised his hand and one of the tutors would stop by for a minute or two to help. When he was done with a page, he raised his hand and a tutor stopped by to review the answers. We also asked several times through if any of the tutors worked with him. He said they only stop by when he raises his hand. He was going twice a week, for 2 months and he made no progress. He hated math even more. We were paying a lot of money for him to go there and work on math problems from a binder by himself, which is ridiculous!!! I could just buy a math book from Target and he could be doing the same thing at home for free! I met with Loretta to go over his progress, which was basically none, and I explained what I have observed and that we are not satisfied what the service and that the center was not providing the service we were told he would receive. She apologized and confessed that she had dropped the ball on the service she had promised. She asked to give her another month to make it up to him and us, which I agreed to. The same thing continued to happen. He just goes there and sits by himself to work on problems in the binder. No one-on-one attention, so we pulled him out. My husband met with her again and expressed our disappointment at the service received. We were given excuses as explanations; "too many kids", "tutors don't provide one-on-one". We SPECIFICALLY asked about the one-on-one service and were told they provide that...THEY DON'T! They say and agree to whatever just to get you to sign your child up and then they throw a binder at them when they are there! This place is not worth the money!
