Wish you could give negative stars! Stupidly bought a puppy here, a beautifle white german shepherd puppy. We were concerned about prey drive as we already have smaller dogs. Was assured repeatedly that would not be a problem, since the puppy was growing up with the pack, she would fall into place. Unfortunately they obviously would tell you the dog could fly and give you a convincing argument and story to go with it. My fault for listening. At 5 months the puppy started getting influenced by her hormones, and the fights began. She started stalking and attacking one of the other dogs. She became relentless, a fight every other day. 45 pounds is lot of dog trying to kill a 20 pound shetland sheep dog. After going through the paperwork received with the puppy, she was taken from the mother way to early. Only 8 weeks when we got her, and she had been there for a week. When it became obvious that we had a serious problem, made a call to seek guidance to the store. No one was available to talk and was promised a call the next morning from a manager. Not surprisingly no call.
As soon as it started happening, we brought in a trainer. Everyone that we discussed the problem with, vet, trainer, and a few people we know well who know dogs, advised to rehome her before one of our other dogs got killed. It broke our hearts to rehome her, but for the safety of everyone, we had no choice. Toughest decision of our lives.
The best description of the information as given to us from the sales people at Puppyworld is equivalent to a used car salesman's spiel, lie, cheat, anything to make the sale. Lying is standard operating procedure.
If you are interested in a puppy, find a reputable breeder. Don't fall for the lies and cons they spew. We miss that dog every day and are having a very difficult time forgiving ourselves for what happened.
I would by another dog at puppy world.I bought my teddy bear dog 8-23-2010.And we are so happy what we have. He has the best personality and is the most friendly dog.and he is healthy too.He was to easy to train too. He even sneezes on command. We are looking to have him around for many years to come.A week after we bought him we took him to the vet and they told us he was a very healthy dog.we have not had a problem except for common things like taking him to the wrong groomer .He such a cutie and wse love him so.Thanks puppy world

I made the mistake of going into this store just to look at the puppies. I feel in love with a beautiful bulldog girl, for whom they were asking $2400. Bulldogs are never cheap, but $2400 is crazy. I asked for her breeder name, which they gave me and assured me it was a reputable breeder & also told me she was APR registered. Now I know better than to buy pets at places like these, but I felt like I needed to save her. After I got home I researched the ""breeder"" who is actually a puppy mill in southern IL. (JEAN WAGLER) I aslo found out that the APR is a bogus registery used by pet stores to charge more for pets. I printed off hundreds of cases against the so called breeder, information on the scam that is the APR, and took it back to Puppy World. Playing dumb I said I was sure they knew nothing about all of this but here is what I found & I would love to buy the puppy at a fair price in order to give her a nice life because according to her breeding records, she probably wouldn't have a long one. I was given ever excuse in the book as to why I was wrong, the information I found was wrong, their breeders are all very reputable (although I had cases of abuse and neglect printed out & in their hands.)
I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I wanted to give them the chance to do the right thing. They failed.

You may have purchased a puppy from this dealer before, and that puppy may have been perfectly healthy and lived to a ripe old age. Regardless, you shouldn't purchase from this store.
The store is supplies solely by Puppy Mills, which are places that breed puppies without any concern for inbreeding, properly maintaining proper lines, preventing genetic ailments, or preserving the health of the animals.
They will improperly breed animals and claim that mutts are pure breed if they ""look close enough"". They will hide known genetic conditions and risks from you as well. Not to mention they over charge... by a lot. They claim the dog's are by certified breeders, the certification is USDA (which if you are not familiar, are the people that regulate food) USDA only regulate puppy mills, as opposed to reputable breeders which I regulated else wise.
If you notice, each of the cages are barred on the bottom, and the puppies are given a very small amount of available space. Dog's in science lab's are given better conditions than this. I don't know how they get around the requirement by state to include a non barred platform from which they can rest... but this store has none.
Besides that, the store is small, limited in supplies for a place dedicated to one animal, and smells pretty bad. The animals are not taken care of and are simply there to sell overpriced as quickly as possible. As stated, they are not given any vet care, and often have genetic problems.
If you want a dog, try the Humane society. Every dog that comes from the humane society is neutered, given veterinary care, they give you free food and a free vet visit with adoption, the animals are almost definitely healthier, their temperament is examined, they begin to receive the beginning stages of training. They are walked regularly.
I have been to both places, so I plead with you, please do not support these puppy mills any longer.
Im over people bashing pet stores, i don't think puppyworl should be one of them. I do agree there are some that are bad!!! This one isn;t!!! My boyfriends family has a shih tzu that is 17 from there, and my family bought a cairn terrier from ther a year ago, and is th greatest dog ever. I moved due a job change and came back, and decided to buy an english Mastiff from them, Lumpy is very healthy and is affectionate. By the way this breed is known to be shy, and he is far from that.

We purchased a chihuahua from Puppyworld in June, 2009 for $1000. About 4 months after having her, she stopped using her left rear leg. We took her to the vet to find out that she has a genetic condition called a luxating patella, which means that her patellar groove is too shallow to hold the ligament in place while she walks. She needed immediate knee surgery which costed us $900 and put her in a lot of pain for 4 months until she finally healed up. Unfortunately, this is not her only genetic defect. She was also born with a collapsing trachea, which has been quite a challenge. Every time she gets out of breath or excited, her trachea collapses, rendering her unable to breathe. There is no cure for this disease, so every time it happens, we have to pick her up and blow in her mouth to get it to open again. Needless to say, our chihuahua is not the healthy dog Puppyworld claimed she was.
Unfortunately, this story gets worse. A month after purchasing our chihuahua from Puppyworld (before the problems had started with her), we bought a second dog from them... an adorable pug for $1100. Her story is absolutely tragic! Unlike our chihuahua, our pug's problems didn't show up right away. We had her for about a year when she suddenly started peeing all over the house. Of course, we assumed she had a bladder infection so we took her to the vet. Because she had had 2 other bladder infections before this, the vet wanted to get an Xray to make sure her kidney, ureters, and bladder were okay. To his surprise, our pug had a much more severe problem... she had severe congenital hip dysplasia. Our vet told us that in his 30+ years of practice, he has never seen such horrible hip dysplasia in a dog so young. The reason she had been peeing all over the house is because her malformed hip bones kept sliding all over the place, and they pushed on her bladder. He also explained that her deformed hip bones have been rubbing together for her entire 1.5 years of life which has caused extensive bone remodeling and arthritis. Our pug now needs total hip replacements on both sides, and we just got a quote from the Orthopaedic surgeon in Madison for $9000! Unfortunately, we do not have that kind of money, and are likely looking at having our poor, sweet little 1.5 year old pug put to sleep if we can't come up with the money :(
The worst part about this whole thing is that the staff at Puppyworld were incredibly mean and nasty to us when we told them about our pug's hip dysplasia. The staff at Puppyworld say ""we cover hip dysplasia in the first three years"" as a selling point. What they don't tell you is that their idea of covering hip dysplasia is giving you store credit toward a new puppy. How can they think that a puppy is replaceable? We don't want to replace her! We want to fix the puppy we have!!! She's our baby, and she is irreplaceable!!! Since we have no interest in getting another genetically defective dog from them, we asked the manager at Puppyworld if we could please have cash back for our puppy so that we can put it towards her surgery. She was soooooooooo nasty to us! She told us that we are ""cheap asses"" and that its not her problem that our dog is malformed.
We tried contacting our pug's breeder to see if there was anything they could do to help us cover our pug's surgery. It turns out that there is no way to contact the ""breeder"" because the puppy came from a large puppy mill in southern Iowa. There's not even a way to contact them!
The people at Puppyworld are nasty, dishonest criminals!!! They purchase poor, sickly puppies from puppy mills for cheap and then sell them to poor, unsuspecting people for thousands of dollars! PLEASE do not purchase a puppy from Puppyworld! We need to make a stand against this horrible business that is built on deception and lies!!!

Ok so I have read every one of these posts now it my turn. I have worked for this company going on 3 years now and its been great. This company is family owned and operated, which makes it that much better to work for. When you step in the store its a homey type atmosphere not like your walking into corporation where they breathe down your neck the second your in the door. I mean we/they go out of their/our way to make the store that way from decorations on hoildays, keeping the store clean, and even taking pictures of our customers with their new family member. Thats just a few of many ways we try to above and beyond to make us welcoming.
Now to the ones that have had bad experiences we do apologize but you must know that things can happen to puppies they are like human lifes. I get colds you get colds and its not because we live in bad housing or situations its because its past from one human to another, and in their case dog to dog. We kinda like to call it a day care in some aspects. If you have a son or daughter in day care and they get sick from being there you don't blame the day care or the kid that got them sick you just try to get them better. And thats what we do. You also must know we take great care of all our puppies like they are our own, when something is wrong we rectify the situation to the best of our ablility. You all need to know whatever it takes to make sure our puppies are healthy and well maintained, thats what we strive for everyday. Some days are better than others but we work hard to make that happen for our past customers, present customers, and future ones.
For our breeders, they are USDA licensed. We have worked with them for many many years. Trust me when I say this if the owner thought for one second she was getting bad puppies or as most say ""puppy mill"" dogs she wouldnt do business with them ever. Its not what she practices and its not what she has us practice. Also we have been in business over 13 years or so, wouldnt you think that we would have been shut down years ago if we had such a bad background, of course we would. But we have done the exact opposite and will continue to grow because we have employees that care and that will go out of there way to make the customer that much more satisfied. (Off-Topic) Not to mention I bought my dog lilly from Puppy World before I worked their and she has been nothing but perfect health wise.
And as far as people getting money for vet bills we really do go out of our way to accomadate the customer when that occurs. Our warranty covers anything that has to do with like heart, liver, lungs ect. (congenital) and its covered up to the price of the dog. I have seen first hand that we cover things for people all the time that we shouldn't. Its family owned and alot of the times it goes case by case cause we don't see high volume of major problems, thats because we prevent things from happening. The owner and management team work to make things fair for both parties.
So I hope this helps for the people that are on the fence from coming into our store or that has bad taste in their mouth, you have heard it from the horses mouth. We hope to see you in our store soon and for the ones that know us or don't we will continue to strive for excellence to make your experience at Puppy World that much better!!

I just wish everyone that considers buying a dog from a mass production outfit like this, would spend just 1 day of their lives like these dogs parents spend every day of their sad lives. This place would close it's doors in one week if we didn't go in there blind and stupid. My god, you're giving money to folks that you should be smart enough to know are one tiny step better than dog fight promoters.
I actually have a lot of good faith in this pet store because my grandmother and I just bought a sheltie from here a month ago, and she is the best puppy ever. My grandma actually bought her first sheltie from here 15 years ago that just passed away, and she brought a lot of joy and happiness in our family. We also brought her polaroid picture in with us from our first puppy we bought from here, and the same sales lady is still working there. I feel this is a very special place, and they really do have good breeders, and we're looking forward to another great 15 years with our new puppy.

My husband and I bought a kitten from them and they told us she was from one of their best breeders. We had no intention of buying a pet store kitten (over the Humane Society), but fell in love with a sweet little girl. 2 1/2 years later the vet told us she was born with feline leukemia (a contagious disease mostly found in strays) and she quickly deteriorated. We had to put her to sleep because she was suffering so much. My heart was broken.
How completely irresponsible of them to support a breeder that is selling off dying cats.
Also, shame on them for using puppy mills.
They should be shut down!
They get one star only because zero is not an option.

This place is just awful! I didn't know that 98% of pet stores sell puppies from back yard crappy breeders or puppy mills when I first got my puppy from there. It was way overpriced but I fell in love when I saw the cute Yorkie. Needless to say I learned the hard way that my 1200.00 bought me a sick almost dying puppy and has caused me and my family nothing but heartache.
The store owner just gave me the run around and made excuses when I brought her my vet bills and was just down right rude. Obviously all they care about is your money there, not their puppies or their customers. My cousin adopted a purebread Yorkie for less than 200.00 at their shelter and their dog was already spayed and had it's shots. I'll never make that mistake again! I wish I knew better, so I just want to warn others from making the same EXPENSIVE mistake I made!

I usually don't write reviews on web sites like this. After reading all those one-sided complaints, I wanted to relay my GOOD experience with Puppy World. I lost my ""breeder-bought"" yorkie puppy to a liver problem when it was nine months old! This puppy was purchased from a ""reputable"" breeder located from the newspaper. I was mortified when the breeder would not even return my calls. On a whim, I went to Puppy World with no intent of purchasing a puppy. I fell in love with a gorgeous ten week old little boy. He was clean and very social as well. From what I could see, without taking every puppy out and inspecting them, the puppies that were out to play were just as well taken care of. The price was not as low as I had seen elsewhere, but I really liked that it came with a a warranty, papers, shots, etc. That made it worth it. After a restless night of tossing and turning, I came back ang bought him. Duke has been a blessing to my family and I always get compliments on his coat and his personality whenever I take him out. This experience does not change anyone's bad experience but I wanted people to know that I had a good experience AND would go back to Puppy World. I also wonder if these people noticed any of this ""horrible"" stuff like their puppies being dirty or unsocialized when they were there buying their puppies?

I just read the reviews, and I'm so taken back by the negative comments because I just bought my 2nd Pekingese puppy from Puppyworld. My first one just passed away that I had bought from there 15 years ago, and I can't say enough about ""Goofa."" He was so healthly, smart , well behaved, I could go on and on. My 2nd puppy that I just bought a couple months ago is AWESOME too! I don't think I would buy a puppy from anywhere else. I shopped around before I bought my 2nd puppy to stores, and breeders. The other stores were definately not as clean or knowledgable. Then I thought about it when I went to breeders they just couldn't stand by the health of there puppies. I also have a close friend that purchased a Lab a couple of years ago, and ""Booger"" is excellent. I would highly recommend them, and fully trust them. From my research, besides this site, everyone that I've talked to loves the quality of service, they're family owned, and have a warranty that they stand by to best that they can on a puppy. I look forward to the next 15years with my new little guy, and I think in a couple years I'll be back to get another!
I went in Puppy World to buy my boyfriend a puppy for his birthday. I was really grossed out. There was poop and pee in the dog kennels and it stunk really bad in the store. I wanted a Chihuahua and they had a cute little brown one. When I took him out to play with him he didn't seem right. He had a cough and wasn't very playful for a puppy. I thought maybe he was sick or something but the lady said he was playing all day earlier and was probably tired. That didn't sound right to me, so I decided not to get him. I am glad because he probably was sick. I talked to a friend of mine from work and she bought a puppy there a few years ago. The dog had a lot of problems, so their puppies are probably not bread very well. I got a rescue dog instead, and even though he wasn't a puppy I feel better that I got him instead. I will not be going back to their store again!

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! Our family has always gone to a breader for a puppy and for some reason decided to step into this sh*t hole. We fell in love with a little doggy, so cute, and already 5 months old. Well, first of all, our doggy at 5 months had never been out of the store before, we has to carry him out and he was crying and shaking. Later we took him to the vet and we were told he had a heart murmur (poor little guy)!!!! We went back in to confront them and they said they did not have to tell us because it was a lower grade murmur. Not only that, but he has been so hard to potty train. The only reason I give this place one star because i love my dog, but he has so many problems. I love him so much and we rescued him from that horrible place, but please if you buy a dog dont do it from this place. The cages are so small, all the cats are sick, and the puppies do not look healthy either. They lie, and charge way too much for sick dogs and cats.

We bought a Siberian Huskie from their store. I don't remember how much it was but I do know that it was twice as much as the breeder that we purchased our second huskie from. But, within 6 months, the huskie we purchased from puppy world had to be put down because its kidneys were failing. When we requested our money back for the emotional stress, they attempted to give us the money back with dog food.

I purchase what was supposed to be a purebred bichon and later found out that she was in fact a mix. When I brought her home she was filthy covered in feces and urine, I don't think she had ever had a bath. then when I took her to the vet to be examined I was told that she had down syndrome and sever allergies. Also 3 days later she came down with kennel cough and almost died. This was completely unnecessary considering she should have had a bordetella vaccine. When I did finally received her papers I noticed that she did not come from a legit breeder, she came from a known puppy mill in Arkansas. So I am begging you not to make the same mistake I did do not contribute to this animal cruelty that is puppy mill dogs sold at pet shops. instead go to your local animal shelter, rescue or vet recommended local breeder. I
