The best customer service and The best hobby shop ever

Don’t give up on us hobbyists
You have the best hobby shops in WI

I have been a customer of yours for many years and I know first hand what you and your family have done for the Hobby. I also have learned allot from you. You have helped me from day one. I first met Scott at A flyin in Port Washington. The Astrowings flying club. Scott demonstrated his aircraft and flying skills at the Special Olympics fly in. I was so impressed that I came down to Milwaukee and I stopped in your Store on 76th St get A plane. Laurie sold me A trainer that she recommended I think it was an Avistar. It was more then I expected to spend but it was well worth it. Scott took me out and showed me how to fly it. I was surprised how ignorant I was and thankful that he went out with me to teach me how to fly. I would have crashed it right away if it had been for hooking up the buddy box. Scott must have saved it at least a dozen times the first day out. Now that is Customer service. I was in the National store when you had a store full of customers and you were answering some ones questions about a car that he bought on the Internet
He did not even get it from you but you were trying to help him. He got mad at you because you had to ring me up on the register and he stormed out of the store. I don’t know how you have put up with some of these people.
All the Happy hobby shops have a very large selection of fun stuff for every one.
I have been in the other hobby shops all over the country. Nothing compares to your stores Happy Hobby. You have always been able to help me and have what I needed in stock. Thank You!
I recommend Happy Hobby to everyone “Good choice”

While I was in Milwaukee for 2...

While I was in Milwaukee for 2 weeks on business I stopped into two of their locations to see what I may find. I agree with what the people here are saying about the store and owner. This place is a dump.

He is very rude and arrogant!

The first store I went to was the one located on North 76th Street. The first thing I noticed was other than the lights on behind the counter the store was dark. The rest of the store was black. I asked if they were closing due to the lack of lights and the gale behind the counter said no. She asked if I have any experience and in the RC field, and I explained that I have been flying rc helicopters for years and was curious as to what they may have for a trainer airplane. She pointed to an old beat up airplane hanging from the ceiling and stated she would be willing to sell it for $300.00. I quickly said that’s not going to work, she than brought me back to where they keep their RC planes (the only other room in the store with a light on. I didn’t see anything I was interested in and proceeded to leave.

I than decided I would try another one of their locations thinking mybe I would find something there. I headed over to the store located on West National Drive. Like the other commenter stated “the dog is the best part of the experience”. All I can say is this place is a bigger dump than what I could see of the last place. There is “stuff” everywhere! Looking at the water stains on the boxes, the smell and the dehumidifier in the back of the store, they have a water problem. There was a customer in the store while I was there asking the owner about getting a bigger RC helicopter than the one he currently owned. The owner proceeded to try to sell him an E-Flite Blade 400 helicopter. The customer again stated he wanted something bigger, only to be lectured and ridiculed by the owner as to why bigger is not better. He looked at me and asked “do you need something?” I smiled and stated “no thank you, I am in town from Minneapolis and enjoy stopping at other hobby stores to see what I can find”. I than commented that it’s nice to see someone in the industry that actually flies RC helicopters. He turns back to me and asks “what do you mean by that?” I simply stated that back in Minneapolis I have seen hobby store employee’s actually talk customer’s out of a sale because it’s not what “they” the employee are interested in. He then barked “I AM NOT TALKING HIM OUT OF A SALE”. I was shocked by his reaction to what I thought was a compliment to him! Than he got all nasty and pissed and walked away.

Bottom line! Avoid this guy and his stores. If this is how he is going to react to a new customer in his store, screw him and his business. Apparently he has enough money and doesn’t need ours. The reason we are losing our local hobby stores to the online industry is simple, customer service. Believe me when I say you will not find good customer service dealing with this guy here. I will fully argue the point on supporting our local businesses over buying online any day. But not in this case, it is amazing he is in business.

Editorial review from Citysearch

I went in to buy something for my fiance's Hpi 5b and the man behind what appeared to be a counter, was to the say the least a pain to even speak to. No help at all arrogant jerk is how he presented himself and upon further discussion with others I am not alone. Others will not go there even if he was the only person who has the part. They would rather wait get it online. I suggest you check it out for yourself it is rather funny how someone can even stay open doing business that way

The dog is the best thing about HH. I

The dog is the best thing about HH. I have never written a review before and generally dont believe in negative reviews, figuring everyone is allowed a bad day or two. This was unbelieveable. I am a small business owner and fully understand the challenges of running a small business. They could have the best stock and they may be the most knowledgeable in the hobby world , I have no clue. What I do know is my experience there was by far the worst I have experienced. Rude, arrogant, condescending etc. Any one who rates this compnay more than 1 star is either a family member or a liar. The family runs 3 stores, I called the one on 76th and visited the one on National. Same experience with both stores. Its too bad, there are not many hobby stores left. I was hoping my kids might get interested in the model buliding, RC thing, but after this experience, I am all for video games!

like the place! I was helped ...

I like the place!

Different strokes for different folks. I read the other reviews and yes the store is a little overwhelming. I walked in and saw trains, planes, radio control cars trucks helicopters every where I looked I saw Rockets, Boats, models of every type. I wish I would have known about them when my son had his science project for school they had a working model of a volcano. Birdhouse kits bird feeder kits. A man came up to me and asked if he could help me. I asked if he had Lionel trains he showed me where. I needed some track. He asked me what kind of track do you need that’s when I looked at him and shrugged my shoulders I don’t know I just need some Lionel track. He was very patient with me and showed me several types of track that Lionel runs on. I could not tell witch one it was that I needed. So I left for the day. I returned the next day and I brought a piece of the track with this time. He saw me come in and looked at the track right away he new what kind and size it was. He went and got me what I needed. I looked around some more and found a bunch of paint by numbers and jigsaw puzzles. I had to get some of them.

Good place to shop

Complete ripoff, place looks like a landfill

While entering the store you will immediately understand the landfill comment. Items are scattered on the floor and junk everywhere. I dealt with who I believe was the owner and needless to say it was my fault that I didn't know the average price of what items should cost. I got ripped off big time $4 part was charged $30 dollars for. Well live and learn and they lost a customer for life. Just read the other negative reviews and you will definitely notice a pattern. I have a feeling the 5/5 reviews are employees/family of the company.

bad hooby store

i have been in the train hobby for over twenty years and i spend a few thousend dollors a year on the hobby and i shop in a few stores around the area.. i was so bothered by how this store runs i had to write this review. the owners of this hobby shop own two other stores by the same name and they all are run the same way. there is for the most part only one person in the store at all times, very seldome are two people there to help with customers. it seems like all the want you to do is pick your item out give them your money and get out of there store. as you walk around - best on a rainy day to see this buckets of water because the roofs are leaking all the time and if they cover the merchandise up with plastic to protect it, it gets damaged. now after the items have been damaged by water they will still sell as brand new stuff yet. now after being in these stores for years alot of the merchandise is as old as the store. if you are looking for 30 year old stuff thats great, but you will pay todays prices on it. they barely have any new train stuff to buy. if you want new and up to date items i say shop at greenfield news and hobby or hiawatha out in waukesha, the stores are clean and well staffed to help you out with any questions you may have. i also have to touch on another point i have and this is why i wrote this. i called as i live a good 35 to 40 minute drive from this store. i wanted to call and see if they had an item in the store that i wanted, the guy was rude and said he would not check and see if he had the item or not because he had other customers to deal with, witch means you need more staff at busy time to help grow your business. he told me just to come in and see what he had, i am not spending money on gas at these prices to drive some where and they may not have the item, that is why we have phones. but maybe the don't care about customer service, they just want your money and don't care about you. i have to say read the other reviews i am not the only one!

Happy Hobby is the vary best in Hobby shops in Wisconsin

I have been doing hobbies, radio control cars and airplanes almost all my life. I have been in all the hobby shops in the Milwaukee area. The Happy Hobby has the best selection and the best advice that you can get.
More Airplanes cars and trucks in stock then the other hobby shops in town put together. They stock all the parts, wood, covering, radios, paint, glue. Motors, engines, hardware
The store in West Allis has it all from pine wood derby cars, trains of all sizes, model cars trucks airplanes.
I am proud to be a customer of theirs and I recommend them highly.
We are lucky to have the Happy Hobby stores in our driving proximity.

Good place to go to ovoid the bull

Wonderful experience at Happy Hobby

Will try to make it short

I went in to look at R/C trucks for my son’s birthday and boy was I educated.

The owner was very direct with what he thought I should get for them.

Did not know what to think about that but he is one that fixes them day in and day out. Anyway I ended up getting a RC from him that he recommended to us because of price durability and parts availability.

Well we got the truck home and out of the box. Charged it up. We took it outside and ran it. Was it fun and it worked great until I drove it! Right in to the road and a car drove over it. I felt sick my son did not feel so good ether. We picked it up and drove back to Happy Hobby. I told the storeowner what happened and he looked over the car and sad no problem it can be fixed. He helped us look up the part numbers for the stuff I broke and checked to see if he had them in stock. He did and he showed us how to replace them. I was skeptical that I would do it wrong so I left it with him to fix. I was told it would take a day or two before he would be able to get to it and that he would call me when it was done. Well I left and had some other running around to do but when I did get home there was a message to come and get the car it was ready. Now how about that.

I highly recommend Happy Hobby. They have parts in stock and do the repairs in house.

Have to Love the place

Please think before you order that stuff on line.

Please think before you order that stuff on line.

If you know everything and are buying your stuff on the internet why by all means are you bothering people that are working when you have no intention of buying anything from them? Asking them questions just to pick their brains. There are some ignorant people out there. I was in one of the happy hobby stores when one of you low lives were in and I saw first hand the crap that the owners put up with day in and day out. I did not believe it till I saw it first hand. I was walking down one of the isles looking at RC cars and I over heard the owner talking to what he thought was a customer. The owner must have spent at least one hour talking to him about R/C helicopters showing them to him demonstrating one to him. I just waited till he could take care of me and listened. Ok it was my turn and I needed some thing out of the display case. The owner got it out for me and I checked out at the register. On the way to my car I saw the other person out side. I asked him if he was going to get into Helicopters He told me he already got one on the Internet and was just getting info because he could not get it to work. WTF Do you work for free? The people at happy hobby are there for me and others that buy their hobby items from them. Not low life blood suckers that get your crap on the Internet and then expect the experts at happy hobby to tell you what is wrong with it
For free.

I like Happy Hobby and the people. I am glad I found them.

great store for serious hobbiest

Owner is a little rough around the edges and is very opinionated, but he knows what he is talking about. I guess he has been involved in many parts of the business for many many years. I have been in on many occasions for different projects and have always left helped and educated.
What do you people want from the world today? Somebody behind the counter or on the other end of the computer to take your money for something that might or might not work, or someone with experance that can acually teach you what you want and need to know about what your doing!

Why is happy hobby still in business?

I stopped in to purchase an additional battery and a better charger for my RC helicopter but when the (owner?) found out I had purchased my heli online and out of state, I was lectured about sending my business out of state, not helping him pay his property taxes and ""wasting his time with nickle and dime accessories"" I mistakenly assumed that $100+ in purchases was worth ten minutes of his time. When I asked him how much of his inventory came from out of state, he promptly fled to the back of the store and I left.

(Discriminated) Told to find help somewhere else

After referencing the internet, A middle aged gentleman verbally abused me, calling me uneducated about the subject and told me never to believe anything on the internet. As he continued to raise his voice and rant and rave about how he was the world champion of rc racing, he never helped me fix my problem and inevitably told me to go get it fixed somewhere else!!!!!!
This was the second time I had visited this particle store with the same gentleman working, the first I had purchased numerous items. He also tried to sell me a part that was marked up double of what its value is.

heli addict

I am currently 6 months into a r/c habit that has my wife thinking I have a girlfriend with all the time I spend on it. I had recently bought 2 BLADE CX-2'S and absoulutely love them so I stepped up and bought a 400 3d eflite heli all from scott and lori at Happy Hobby. I got myself into a little trouble by crashing the 400 and cx-2's and went in several times noticably frustrated only to find extremely helpfull and good people who both dropped what they were doing to help my and my problem. I am not the type to expect the over and above service I recieved and wanted to say thanks. I will go back as long as my habit (and wife) allow because they treat people like they matter....
