I first heard about the SHL clinic through a friend of mine who started to take Tai Chi classes there. Not sure what really prompted me to go and try a class but I was really surprised by how much I liked the energy of the clinic. When you first get there, you are greeted by a huge open and sunlit space, decorated with plants all around the room. Diem is super friendly and very welcoming and I noticed his mom is usually in the back kitchen brewing the day's herbs (she usually makes the class a sample of her brew after class..what a treat!). When I decided to try a massage with Diem, I was greeted by fresh sheets and towels, calming music, and a gentle energy of the room. He explained to me that he doesn't like doing so many massages during the week because they do take alot of energy (I should know, I'm a coach and a trauma therapist) and he doesn't want to be less than fully present when he gives a massage. Other than the fact that he's really skilled, I've never felt more paid attention to in a massage than with Diem. He really holds his attention throughout the session and you can feel the difference of how much healing intention he has behind his hands. I told my friend "he has magic hands!" Soon enough, she tried a massage with him too and loved it! A few weeks later, I started to get sick (I'm typically proned to chest infections) and I mentioned it briefly to Diem and he gave me a packet of herbs to try. I've always been curious about chinese herbs and their healing potential (I so want to stop taking a Z-pak whenever I get sick) but never made the time to research it. Because Diem is so cool and open to talk to, I knew he'd be the perfect person to start with. After I tried the herbs (I had to boil them and sit over the steam with a towel over my head), I almost immediately felt like my lungs were opening up and I started to cough out alot (i meant alot) of phlegm. He also suggested sipping on hot water throughout the day to keep my lungs moist. It's been 2 days and I really think I successfully avoided getting a full blown chest infection. THANK YOU DIEM!

My wife started seeing Melani to help get her cycle back to normal, so she could start ovulating again. In the meantime, we had found out that I had very low motility - 38 percent and 50percent is considered normal. So, I went in to see Melani and she took over an hour to talk with me about diet, lifestyle, sleep and other health related things to develop a customized herb formula to help fix the issue. She also recommended getting a little more exercise, less caffeine, and really simple diet changes to get more nutritional value out of food (such as eating breakfast every day, having protein with every meal). Everything was super easy to do and required minimal effort. After 3 months of these changes and taking the herbs, my motility went up to 66 percent, then the next month it was 72 percent (and I'm sleeping much better too!). Shows how simple life changes and some Chinese herbs can drastically impact fertility. Thanks Melani for all the help and support!
[Michael], I wanted to share my good news. I am pregnant…I want to say thank you because I definitely think seeing you for the acupuncture sessions helped! After spending countless months trying to get pregnant through iui fertility treatments, I scheduled my first acupuncture appointment with Michael Bennett. I was in the process of recovering from a miscarriage over the holidays. I was stressed and anxious trying toget pregnant again with my first child plus working full time runninga busy manufacturing company. I began treatment and immediately found it very relaxing. I was impressed with his warm and professional demeanor and looked forward to my appointments. I am happy to say that after completing a series of sessions, I had a successful IVF acupuncture pregnancy!!!
Dear Dr. Yang and Dr. Liu, I am just updating my current pregnant condition. Everything is going very well, I am now 33 weeks pregnant. I want to thank you Dr. Yang and Dr. Liu for your wonderful work on my natural pregnancy! I am 46 years old; I was off the pill for about 2 years and tried to conceive since then. I have always skipped my period with irregular menses because of my high FSH level. None of my doctors wanted to try IVF or IUI with my own eggs. After 15 sessions of acupuncture and herbal treatment with Dr. Yang, I became pregnant by myself naturally! Acupuncture really works and it's miracle! I highly recommend Dr. Yang for every one who suffer from infertility and try to get natural pregnant! Vivi , New York City
Really Honest Chinatown spot for Chinese Bodywork. I didn't do the acupuncture, but I had Michelle, and asked for 90 min. Very thorough from head to toe - felt like jello afterwards. Near a Chinese temple on Canal St., near Bowery. You have to buzz and they buzz you up, 3 flights. Actually had a REAL massage table with a good headrest. She used professional massage cream, not baby oil, w/ no smell. Paid $70 for the 90 minute session, and left good tip (she deserved it). A very reasonably priced spot, with generous attention given to relax u. It's a little hard to make an appointment with Michelle, always seems busy. Maybe next time I'll try Cassie, who is kinda cute (as the other reviewer said).
Dr. Huo is a wonderful, compassionate and accommodating OMD. I have been seeing her for over 2 months now and genuinely feel as though she has thoroughly helped me with my various and complex health issues. I feel markedly better since I began seeing her. I've found that she has always been flexible with scheduling and she begins appointments punctually. She closely monitors your individual progress and is upfront and direct about not wasting your time (or money) if you are not feeling improvement after only a few sessions. I find this honesty and straight forwardness refreshing in the alternative medicine world. I would (and do) highly recommend seeing her if you are in need of acupuncture.
As a nurse with no experience in Eastern medicine, I entered Melani's office with little idea what to expect. The only thing I knew was that my husband and I wanted to have a baby, and acupuncture is increasingly seen as a great way to promote fertility. Melani put me at ease the minute she called my name. She approaches her work with warmth and a ready smile, and she is extremely knowledgeable in the areas of fertility and pregnancy. After 2 months of treatment we were pregnant, and I saw her throughout the pregnancy, which was amazingly free of many of the common complaints of that period. Our son was just born, and we will be forever grateful for Melani's help in bringing him into the world.
My husband and I had been trying to conceive for well over a year. After a very brief introduction to infertility doctors and procedures, I was adamant to avoid this “science project” world and try alternative methods. This is when I was introduced to Melani - thank goodness! I began a weekly treatment of acupuncture and Chinese Herbs and 5 cycles later I was pregnant! Melani’s expertise, kindness, and support could not have come at a better time and I am so grateful to have found her. She is wonderful to work with and I hope every woman who has trouble getting pregnant will consider seeing Melani for fertility acupuncture treatments. Thank you so much for everything!!
As an expectant mother and a nurse, I can wholeheartedly recommend Melani Bolyai. My husband and I, two very positive people, were getting increasily frustrated after months and months of trying to conceive. It seemed like everyone else in the world was pregnant but us. I got pregnant the second cycle under Melani's care. She is consistently positive and patient, even with a Chinese medicine novice like myself, and I always leave her office feeling refreshed. I am so happy to have found Melani and look forward to continuing to see her for any pregnancy-related issues.
