The Miami-Dade Park and Recreation Department is one of the busiest and largest leisure service agencies in the United States. The department manages more than 12,000 acres of natural areas that requires protection and conservation. It maintains over 250 parks, recreational facilities and greenway areas and serves a population of nearly two million. The Miami-Dade Park and Recreation Department offers swimming, tennis and sand volleyball activities. It also includes several marinas that provide boating opportunities. Additionally, the department serves the people of various age groups. The Miami-Dade Park and Recreation Department is operated by Miami-Dade County in Florida, which also governs planning and zoning, animal services and aviation departments.
