I signed a contract on 2/28/14, for a $ 48k 17x35 rectangular pool. Paid $9000 upon signing contract. After some aggravation and multiple unanswered calls, on 4/21/14 they came and excavated my old pool (two days work) on 4/23/14 at 7:15 am, I had the owner's son parked his car in my drive way behind my car waiting for me to collect the second draw. No problem there. I paid him $ 12,000 w/ ck and he gave a me a receipt. Since then, I have a hole in my back yard, 7 lies & 100 unanswered calls. Expectations were that by now, work was to have been completed wether permitting. Wether has been perfect, Genie Pools far from it. Next week, I will be sending them the required Certified letter and begin the undesired Legal recourse process.
Worst company out there, our project taken over a year. They came out on Help Me Howard, see below. If you are having issues contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org since several customers getting together to take action. See below, all you need to know:
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I hired them and they are the worst contractors I have ever worked with. they damaged my property and they did nothing to fix it. The pool was suppose to be done by now but it is not even half completed. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY EVEN TO SOMEONE.
DON'T BE FOOLED BY SOME PERFECT REVIEWS!!!!!!!STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!! SOMEBOBY NEEDS TO STOP THESE PEOPLE FROM ABUSING CONSUMERS.AFTER 8 MONTHS MY POOL DECK(TRAVERTINE UPGRADE $ 6,300.00 PAID IN FULL MONTHS AGO) ISN'T FINISH YET, THEY WON'T ANSWER YOUR CALLS,VERY UNPROFFESIONALS, AFTER MONTHS PASSED BY I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO MET THE OWNER(RICARDO)ON 01/31/14 AND TOLD ME "THE REASON WHY MY POOL WASN'T FINISH... view more WAS BECAUSE UPGRADES SHOULD BE PAID IN FULL;HE CONVINCED ME TO PAY HIM FOR THE REMAINING 50% OF THE UPGRADE ( WHICH I DID IN GOOD FAITH)THAT HE WILL PERSONALLY TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING" PAID HIM $ 3150.00 MORE AND I NEVER HEARD FROM THIS GUY AGAIN.I CALL THEIR OFFICE EVERYDAY BUT NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING,I HAVE TEXTED OWNER AND HIS SON WHO RUNS THE COMPANY LOTS OF TIMES BUT THEY JUST DON'T RETURN ANY CALLS ;THEY JUST DON'T CARE!!.MORE OVER;AS OF 03/29/14 THEY STILL HAD A PLAQUE(CODE OF ETHICS FROM B.B.B ) HANGING ON THEIR WALL WHICH DOESN'T REFLECT REALITY, THEIR ACCREDITATION WITH BBB WAS REVOKED ON 11/19/2013.IF YOU ARE IN A SIMILAR SITUATION CONTACT Miami Dade County: Consumer Protection 140 W Flagler St #902, Miami, FL 33130 (305)375-1250 http://www.miamidade.gov/business/consumer-protection.asp
After dealing with this company for the last 7 MONTHS all I can say is stay away. The BBB says stay away. They can't even follow their own plans. They have failed 3 or 4 inspections. They will mess something up, then not show up for weeks, won't answer their phones, won't return calls, and today the owner refused to see me when I went by. ANY GOOD REVIEW IS A LIE. STAY AWAY!!!!! 7 months and I'm still not even close.
We had a cracked pool. The shell was almost 30 years old, and it had multiple cracks leaking water. Genie Pools gave us a fair estimate and did warn us from the beginning it would be expensive to repair however thanks to their engineer they were able to figure out a fix and the final amount still was a lot cheaper then demolishing and rebuilding the pool. The work took almost 6 months and while I wished it had been faster and at times I nearly lost my patience the end result is a gorgeous pool that we are glad we were able to repair.
So far Genie Pools came and fixed all the problems I had with the pool, the sinking deck, shifted pabers and the failing pump. Not the greatest at customer service but they did fix all my problems and honestly it still came out a lot cheaper then any other quote I had.
Just got my pool finished today and I promised the owner that I will write a truthful review based on my experience with Genie Pools. I contracted Genie to build my pool in November 30, 2013 due to the price and a couple of referrals that I had from friends. I felt pretty comfortable working with them from the beginning stages of the design to the actual signing of the contract. I must admit that I was a bit skeptical at first due to some of the other negative reviews but with my experience in construction as well as seeing for myself the kind of company that they are, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and proceed with the project. I was originally told 3 to 3.5 months of construction and in all fairness taking into account the holiday season and everything else I cannot complain of the time it took for them to complete it. Again, being in construction I know that there WILL almost always be delays. It was explained to me today that due to the high volume of pools that they build it usually takes them a little longer to finish a project as opposed to a smaller company that only does 2-3 pools a month which is why they have to charge alot more. Pro: Fair construction time, quality finished product (love the new pool, BBQ party this weekend!!!) and great price Con: Communication could be a little better in regards to keeping us informed of overall construction process.
This is not a company, this is a scam, and any good review you read on this site, is a scam too. I've been involved in many home improvement projects in my lifetime, and ive never felt so abused. its been a very painful, terrible experience.
Gabriel is an out right liar. They are extremely dishonest and will con you for your money.
At first this Jose does a real superb job selling you his professionalism, only to con you by sweet talking you that it's not under his control.
I together with quite a few of our friends in the N. miami area were all left with unfinished pools, with the advanced payments all paid up. They have stolen literally thousands of dollars from some of us that don't have extras.
I'm assuming this business will be shut down by some very unhappy clients.
Check out what the better business bureau has to say!!!!
Beware! Do not hire this company if you are looking for a well built pool! They will sell you on their professionalism, however, they are only professional until you sign the contract and they take your money. Their work is shoddy to say the least, pavers are very poorly cut and sinking all around the pool, the filter casing was installed backwards causing 2 filters to break in half during the first 6 months, and the size of the pump was mismatched with the filter. Their contract states that the last payment is due before they finish the pool, I should never have agreed with this, as once they received the last payment they never returned for the "walk-thru" so they could correct all the problems and they never even came by to show us how to use the equipment, We have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but they don't seem to care. Stay away from this company.
I wish I could give Genie Pool a -1 review. People, please, stay away from this company. Our work with them was and continues being a living nightmare. First, they took forever to complete the work. People would come one day to do something and then disappear for three weeks or longer. Supervisors never went by... I had to constantly call their office to request an update on the work and they were even screening my calls... I could only get to talk to some of them if I call from a different phone number.
Now that they have completed the work, the pool is leaking.. yeah.. that is the pool's owner worst nightmare.. the have sent people over to fix it three times! the last time they found some leak around the spa which they said it was corrected.... well, it is not... The leak is so bad, that all the pavers around the pool have started to sink in... the deck surface is uneven everywhere... Now they do not answer our calls nor they show up to our house to examine the issue.... How can I company run like this is beyond me...! If after reading this post, you still hire them... Good luck! that's all I can say...
My experience is that this company was very hard to work with. Workers did everything unsupervised and when I confronted the company owners and managers about the problems, they denied the issues even before seeing the work. It took a lot of pushing and effort from our side to ensure the work was properly done as per contract. Very bad customer service. they destroyed my fence (out of negligence) and I had to pay to replace it. Yes, it is written in the contract that they are not responsible for any damages...I didn't catch it. Oh boy what a lesson I learned from this pool company. and funny how the majority of the "excellent reviews" on this Google Local review don't identify themselves...HUMMMMMMM...who could those raving reviews come from....I could only guess.... I would NOT RECOMMEND this company if you asked me...I would check around a little more....a neighbor of mine started a month after my pool excavation and they just finished their diamond brite plastering today (almost four weeks when he started the pool excavation).
Terrible experience...extremely unprofessional, don't keep promises, very disrespectful, deceiving sales person...The workers are ok, but the management !!!! I changed companies in the middle of the project and God what a difference...I should have read BBB reports and complaints..
You guys did a great job to say the least! There’s not one thing about you and your company that I was not happy with, from the beginning to the end. You were very helpful and knowledgeable about your product and designs, with quality always being your utmost importance. From the frame of the pool tp the equipment, you supplied a good product. You also gave a realistic end date and blew it out of the water – 42 days from initial hole to swimming!
Your company’s experience is very obvious in the quality and final product. Gabe was on scene at every step of construction and made sure everything went smoothly. If any concerns came about, he was a phone call away and would respond immediately.
All you hear are horror stories about pool installations and the wait and problems. My experience with your company is the total opposite; nothing but good things to say.

I would like to take the time to acknowledge the tremendous job your company did during the construction of my swimming pool.
I have been around the construction and service industry all of my life and I must commend your company on its true professionalism and its commitment to customer satisfaction. First of all, I don’t believe that I ever seen a project of this magnitude go as smoothly as the construction and completion of my pool. Someone whom may be reading this letter, may think it was written just as advertising for your company. I want to assure them this certainly isn’t the case! Your company has demonstrated to me that you are true professionals.
My family wanted to take this moment to thank your entire team, your sales person Rick, who did a tremendous job representing your company, and all the various subcontractors who including Eloy your paver person, your excavators and your electricians who all went above and beyond in making us feel very comfortable with the process.
Congratulations on a job well done! Please feel free to use us as a references if needed. All the best to the Genie Pools team.
Genie Pools - what a joke! Run people Run !
We have been treated horribly by this company and regret ever doing business with them.
They told us it would take less than 3 months to build a pool and it took 7. They first failed to get a dig permit causing initial delays and then they never showed up on the start date they scheduled with us. On the days they did show up for work they were always late. They drove a dozer right into our block wall and damaged the side of our home which they refused to pay for. We had our homebuilder make the repairs to our stucco and siding and when they tried to contact them to bill them they lied and said they never heard of us. We failed several of our inspections because they forgot to submit a soil report to the city causing enormous delays to our installation. They were going to charge us almost $500 for the soils reports they needed to obtain due to their lack of planning. At the time they offered to pay the costs of these reports because they knew they screwed up and it was their fault for the delays however they screwed us later by almost suing us for the cost of the soils report. We were told by our salesman that one light would be enough for our pool and we would not need to add more at the time we signed the contract - Our pool is now 70% dark at nightl. They installed a filter on our pool which is only big enough to support a small pool or spa. (as told by several pool maintenance and repair men) So our ONE filter is doing the job of 4 filters and must be cleaned weekly. Not the easy maintenance as promised in their sales pitch. We also had to hire a leak detection company to find a leak in our pool because we noticed our water levels dropping rapidly. The leak was on one of the return lines located under the pool decking. For unknown reasons they wire tied all the pipes together putting stress on the plumbing. They said in all their years of repairing pools they have neer seen this done. The total cost of the repair cost us $1600. They told us the leak was the installers fault due to inproper installation. I contacted them and explained the situation to them and went as far as even having them speak with my repair man however they refused to accept responsibility for the cracked pipes. Our experience with this company has been a complete nightmare.
VERY Unhappy !!!!
Dont even think of calling these people I am still living in nightmare - also these pools they have shown on google on not their pools - they are a fake! My STORY: If I was looking for a new pool again, I would not even request a quote from these people, let alone consider using them. From the moment we signed the contract, our experience with Genie Pools went downhill really fast. The absolute lack of supervision by the construction manager resulted in many issues both during and after the construction. Describing all of them would require a book, so here are just a few of the bigger headaches. About 2 months after the pool was finished it started losing 3 inches of water a day. Genie Pools had their plumber fix the problem and told us that the original work was so bad that it was against code and it should have never passed inspection. I presume that statement was meant to put the blame on the inspector, but whether the inspector should have caught the problem does not change the fact that it was a result of bad quality work and no supervision by Genie Pools. Also, they did such a horrible job compacting the backfill that they had to come back every other month for almost the entire first year after completion because the pavers were sinking in around the pool. Again, had the job been properly supervised, this should and would not have been an issue. Genie Pools outsources their construction work because they do not have their own crew, but that should require more supervision and not less. After the Diamond Brite was put on, my entire back yard was blue from the residual trash the work crew poured out and it even overflowed to my neighbor’s lawn. The construction manager was so lazy that it took me many phone calls to convince him to come out just to take a look. On the phone he said that some blue is inevitable. Once he came out he said: “yes, this is really bad, I would not accept this at my house either.” Again, I guess he did not realize that it was his company that created the mess and his lack of supervision that allowed it to happen. As far as phone calls are concerned, the construction manager is screening his phone and does not return voicemails. As a result, the only way to get a hold of him is to call from a different phone line every time. It is very childish and clearly a sign of being lazy and unprofessional. Probably the most significant problem we had with Genie Pools is that they committed false advertising and the construction manager even acknowledged it in a signed letter on company letterhead. The promotional materials provided to us when Genie Pools was trying to persuade us to choose them over the competition clearly said that they provide a 3 year warranty on all equipment. However, the official contract indicated that each piece of equipment is warranted pursuant to the warranty provided by the equipment’s manufacturer. Since I did read the contract, I was aware of that clause, but neither the manufacturers’ warranties nor any other documentation on the actual warranty periods were provided to us at any time and we had no reason to assume that they were different from the advertised 3 years. When our pool pump timer broke 18 months after the completion date, they refused to change it claiming it only had a 1 year warranty, although they were unable to provide us with any documentation on that warranty. I referred back to the promotional material, which promised 3 years on all equipment. In the above mentioned letter, the construction manager did not deny the contents of the promotional material, but said that the contract supersedes it. Effectively, he confirmed that the company committed false advertising and was not willing to honor the 3 year advertised warranty. That resulted in this negative review and a complaint at the Better Business Bureau adding to their 5 other complaints in the past 12 months by other very unsatisfied customers.
