My son is taking lessons at Drummer Paradise and He is very happy. I use to take him to an academy in Weston but since He start going here he is available to read music and play songs after just a few weeks.
If I could give this music school zero stars, I would. What a scam! They promote group Yamaha piano classes but they never have enough children to actually have a full class, so the children miss out on the Yamaha group piano experience. What is the point of having Yamaha classes if the children never actually have the Yamaha learning experince....even though they are charging parents tuition, hand over fist. The owners have no morals or values I was also completely and utterly turned off by the owner, Antonio Alvarado. He just seemed like a con artist, like he specialized in telling half truths. There was always something about him that just rubbed me the wrong way. Incident #1When I first heard about DMC, they had another address listed on the web. The address was at a remote warehouse in Doral. I thought to myself, where exactly are they going to hod the classes? When I finally got the correct address for their other location, it was still in a warehouse district, but it was completely empty at the time. No instruments, no students, just a sign outside the door. I thought, if classes are supposed to start in a couple of days, where are the instruments? FISHY, but I enrolled anyway ( I know... Shame on me for giving the benefit of the doubt to an obvious scam)Incident #2One time druing their recital dress rehearsal for their very first public debut, which they had pictures of in the Doral newspaper, I actually witnessed the owner, Antonio Alvarado, talking to his 6 year old daughter so horribly, it made me sad for her. He yelled at her in front of her entire class and then threw her out of the class-and he's not even the teacher! Anyways, she ran out of the room in tears. I FELT SO ASHAMED THAT I WAS PAYING MY MONEY TO A MAN THAT FELT JUSTIFIED IN HUMILIATING HIS OWN CHILD LIKE THAT.Isn't a school supposed to have children?I really think that this school is a cover for money laundering and/or drugs, and they are using the Yamaha brand name to stay under the radar with the local authorities. Mr. Alvarado, always said that he didn't like the police...whatever that means. Their website was never up to date and whenever I walked in during the week to discuss tuition payments, the school was always completely empty. I just never felt at peace with my decision to send my daughter to this program. I was relieved when she wanted to do ballet.Keep your eyes open and go with your gut feeling.
My son is 10, and he started taking piano classes with Wendy 9 months ago. I can't be more happy and excited of everything he has learned in such a short time! The best thing of all is that my son practices at home without me "pushing" him to do so. He has learned to play the piano and always wants to learn more and more. Wendy provides private lessons in her studio to children and adults. She has 2 comfortable waiting areas where I can sit and wait while she teaches my son. I recommend Wendy if you really want to learn to play the piano professionally.
I highly recomend the Santbell Piano Studio. The instructor has outstanding credentials and is well versed and experienced in many genres of music. She creates a very comfortable environment conducive to learning, without distractions, in a one-to-one setting. I am very pleased with how she has helped my daughter develop her musical ear and her sight reading is impressive. She has kept my daughter's interest by alternating classical, theory, jazz and pop music. As well as UTube to spike her interest. Sindy Garcia
