General Info
Roger and Sally McConnell were shocked when they moved from Iowa to Mesa, Ariz., at the lack of quality, corn-fed beef in the region. The couple decided to fill the void themselves in 1990 by opening Midwest Meats, a butcher shop that offers Iowa-only, select-grade beef. The company operates two shops, one in Mesa and one in Fountain Hills, Ariz., that boast more than 100 specialty meats, including pork, poultry, lamb, beef and veal in a variety of different cuts. The couple has since opened spin-off businesses Midwestern Bakery and Midwestern Steakhouse. The three businesses all operate as divisions of Midwest Marketplace.

Overall

This used to be a quality meat market. Now it's probably the worst place I've ever bought meat from. I opened a package of vacuum packed ribs one day after purchasing them and the stench was unbelievable. I took them back to the store and was told, "The blood from the ribs went bad, rinse them off they'll be fine". Are you kidding me, if the blood is bad it's already leached into the meat. This place should be shut down by the health department. If you want to get sick buy your meat here. This place sucks.

Midwest in AZ

Nestled in the far western end of the building that houses the best butcher shop and bakery in the valley, is a restaurant that your mom would feel at home in. The food is simple, well prepared and priced right. The burgers were cooked to order, the sides, especially the potato salad were great. The BLT was big, with plenty of bacon. On your way out, stop by the bakery, or the butcher shop.
