I began hearing a coarse grinding sound coming from the passenger side rear tire and out of caution, decided to pull into Midas for their "Free Inspection"... They convinced me that both rear brake pads and rotors and one caliper needed replacing for $500. I agreed and three hours later, I paid the bill and left the shop with everything seemingly fine. Four days later I had to return because the driver side rear began to squeal and grind. They made the repair claiming I must have been over using my parking brake...which I never make use of... Now a little over a year later, the right side rear brake again begins making that coarse grinding sound. They said the brake pad, the rotor and the caliper were damaged and had to be replaced. The brake pad was warranted, but everything else was at my expense. I refused their service and went to another repair garage to have the work done. The second garage informed me that apparently they never flushed the brake fluid lines at the time of the first repair and very dirty brake fluid led to the eventual deterioration and failure of the right rear brake system... This time I had both sides fixed with new rotors, brake pads and calipers for less than the original amount for the shoddy work at Midas. The attendants are very smooth talkers but in reality do shoddy work and are not to be trusted. I will never go back there again and I have already told this story a dozen time over....

These people were awful. We took our car in because we started hearing the brakes squeak. We knew this was coming because we were told they were getting low a few oil changes back. When we took the car in first they told us the inspection was free, period. No modifiers (i.e free with paid service). We left and they called back awhile later and said they couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes, they said "They're perfectly fine." Instead they told us they would need over $1500 because the struts were the issue, not the brakes. That sounded like a lot of money so we did some research and called around and were consistently quoted around $1000. Also concerning was the fact that we had been told the brakes were getting low months ago and they told us otherwise. All that considered we decided to take the car elsewhere for a second opinion/estimate. Midas ended up charging us for the inspection, even though we never signed anything or agreed to a paid inspection. For the record, we figured we would get charged for it but they never said anything other than free so it was irritating. When we took the car elsewhere to a place with excellent ratings both with consumers and the BBB, they told us it was in fact the brakes and the rotors, and that the struts were fine. (We said nothing about taking it to Midas or what they said because we wanted a completely unbiased inspection). For Midas to tell us the brakes were fine in favor of a more expensive repair is totally irresponsible and honestly reprehensible.
