I'm a single mother of 2 and I had a recent decrease in my finances. I work in sales which is based on commission. I don't receive any government assistance, I just work to pay my bills. I needed help with a bill and was told to contact Mifa and they would help but Unfortunately they did not. This is my first time asking for help and they turned me down because I work on commission. The point is that I do work but I'm doing the best I can and when I needed help they told me they could not help me. It's sad that the ones who always help people or donate to good causes can't get help but the ones who sit around and do nothing gets help. One thing I do know is that GOD WILL NEVER LEAVE ME NOR FORSAKE ME.

I needed to help a Latino friend who was coming here from another country and someone told me to go here for advice. I'd have been better off to have never gone as it discouraged me from wanting to help her. They evidently did not want to help me and acted very weird and gave me the runaround. I wondered if it had something to do with the fact that I myself am not Latina, even though I was there to help my friend. Then they said the lawyer would call me the next working day, but she never called, and when I called back day after day for the next week, no one would ever pick up the phone. Finally, I got someone and they passed me to the lawyer without any introduction, and the lawyer feigned that she never got the message to call me, but seemed put out and then went on to explain very defensively why she never had time to call me back. They evidently weren't interested in helping me, but not professional enough to explain that, and instead were giving me the runaround. Then the lawyer lied to me about not getting the message, and then admitted she'd lied by explaining why she didn't answer the message. She also was not friendly. It smacked of very, very unprofessional, and a little bit suspicious, especially the part where the lawyer lied and then wasn't even consistent enough to maintain her own lies right in the middle of the only conversation that I had with her. I've never felt more blown off for no good reason. If they didn't feel they could help me, why not just say so politely. Very unprofessional and un thoughtful and discouraging. I'm not welcome there because I'm not Latina, or something. I don't know if my friend would get better reception when she arrives, but by then it will be too late anyway, because the decisions regarding her visit need to be made BEFORE she gets here, and no one wants to help me help her.

After 7 years as a loyal patient that always enjoyed and appreciated my experience with Southwind Medical Specialists, I am now looking to switch. I have had nothing but negative experiences the past few months. The wait in the lobby for a scheduled visit now regularly takes 15 or more minutes past my appointment time to see the doctor. I ran out of a prescribed medication that I was told to call and leave a message with them to be refilled and they have taken over four days to do anything about it and it still hasn't been called in. That is boderline medical malpractice in my opinion. Also, they gave me an ineffective antibiotic for a UTI that I called in about and asked to switch to something else. Again, it took them almost two days to call me back about it. I was so frustrated I went to a minor med clinic instead to get what I needed. Their excuse is always the doctor or nurse practitioner isn't available to approve the refill or call in a prescription so I end up without for more than a few days until they take care of it. Heaven forbid I needed life saving medications and not just antibiotics or phentermine. I would not recommend Southwind anymore. Their service and patient care has gone down hill since being bought by Methodist Healthcare.

2 visits, neither was very good. First trip doctor interrupted me several times and was not listening, as she continued to ask me about my fever when I told her I didn't have one. 2nd trip I waited 45 minutes past my appt time and finally asked for my money back. Only redeeming quality about the place was the nurse that took my blood pressure/heart rate/etc. She was very friendly and courteous. Won't be going back.

i went to meth. north hospital 3 weeks ago by ambulance. next day, in walks a young handsome doctor. "..i am dr. onsingco. i am going to be your doctor. i am a pituitary patient. hard to treat! he went right to work. prescribed the right meds. i was in a lot of pain tonight. called his office after hours. the answering service recorded my message. 5 minutes later, the phone rings. it was dr. onsingco. i told him i was in pain. "..call the clinic tomorrow. we will help you..". when was the last time you heard that? fine human being. fine, fine doctor!.

Different Types of Physicians

Patients can choose from a wide variety of physicians depending on doctor specialty and what problems they are experiencing. Here are a few of the most common types of physicians that you may see in your lifetime:

General Practitioner
Your GP is the doctor that you go to for regular checkups, vaccines and to identify health issues. GPs can treat many different illnesses and injuries, from the common cold to a broken arm. If your health requires a second opinion or expert care, the GP will refer you to a specialist who has the skills to focus in on the issue.

Cardiologist
Heart attacks and heart disease are some of the most common afflictions seen across the country, making cardiologists important to your long-term health. These physicians specialize in studying and treating the heart and related diseases.

Dentist

Choosing a Physician

There are obviously a number of physicians that you can choose from, but how do you know if they're the best choice for you? Here are a few considerations to help you pick a physician:

Look at Your Insurance
Before you get down to the details, you need to verify which doctors are covered by your insurance and whether they are in or out of your carrier's network. Rates may be cheaper if the doc is in network – a doctor can be covered by your insurance but not necessarily in network. Out of network is typically more expensive. Doctors often add and drop plans, so it's important to ensure that your options are compatible with your insurance plan. Doing your homework will help you avoid unexpected expenses. 

Check for Board Certification
Your physician should be certified through the American Board of Medical Specialties. Doctors must earn a medical degree from a qualified school, complete three to seven years of residency training, be licensed by a state medical board and pass one or more ABMS exams to be certified.

If you're going in for surgery, you want someone that knows what they're doing and has a high success rate. Ask how often the surgeon performs this surgery and try to find one that regularly does it. This will give you peace of mind that you're in capable hands.

Understanding Your Insurance

Your decision on a physician or surgeon can be majorly affected by the insurance plan you have. You may have insurance through employment, your spouse, your parents if you're under 26, or the marketplace if the previous options don't apply to you. It's important to understand how your insurance works to have the full picture of what you'll need to pay for.

Your insurance will have a deductible, which is the amount that you're responsible to pay for covered medical expenses. Some plans have coinsurances, where you must pay a certain percentage of the bill, and insurance will cover the rest. Aftercare

Surgery affects people in different ways, but as you begin to emerge from anesthesia, you'll want to alert your nurse to any issues you may have. The nurse will tell you how the procedure went, what effect it will have on your condition, what to expect when you get home and how long it will take to get back to normal. If you start feeling pain, the nurse may give you medication to stop it from getting worse. When possible, it's also advised to move around to avoid blood clots from developing in your legs.
