Overall
Excellent Experience - World Class Care

The Shea name has been synonymous with innovation and really great care for people with ear and hearing problems. There are a bunch of Sheas in Memphis, all ear docs. This is the practice for the 'younger' Dr. John Shea (he's about 50). We were told there would be an all-day wait and a short visit with 'the master'. In fact, we were met by Tracy at the front desk, who was very helpful when it came to filling out registration paperwork. In 35 mins, we were met by Stephanie, the audiologist, who led us to her lab, where she began our testing. Very detailed tests of hearing and balance were done (more than we had experienced anywhere over the past ten years). The patient, my mom, twice interrupted testing: once for 'a breather' and once for a potty break. At no time did we feel rushed (a first!). After testing, we returned to the waiting room which had filled with patients who seemed to range in age from one year old to Mom's age. 25 minutes later, we found ourselves in an exam room. Lisa, Doctor Shea's nurse came in, introduced herself, and helped Mom onto the exam table. Then Dr. Shea came in. He took the time to introduce himself to me, my husband and our son before introducing himself to Mom. Using a large microscope, he took his time cleaning Mom's ears (usually a horrible experience for her). She never even winced. The he and his nurse put Mm in a comfortable position so she could understand what he had to say. He used a chart to explain how the ear worked, what had happened to Mom's ears, and to explain his treatment plan. When he was finished, we all knew more about Moms ears than we had ever known. After Doctor John left the room, Lisa came in and gave us handouts and drawings and explained the treatment plan (my son had the most questions!). Tracy checked us out and even asked if we needed directions on how to get headed home (we're from Monroe, LA). We've been back twice, and the trip to Memphis is one Mom looks forward to (!). Mom's ears are healthier than they have ever been. Doctor John says it's probably because her ears were ready to get well. We know the truth: Dr. John J. Shea III ! Oh yes, our total time in his office for the first visit: 2 hours!
