Harbor Town is a great place to live. It is right on the Mississippi River, very beautiful, has a very nice walking/running path and dog park. It's perfect for first time Memphis residents, which we were. With that being said, I would not recommend Island Park Apartments. Shortly after we first moved in about a year and a half ago, we began finding poisonous Brown Recluse spiders in every room of our unit. We immediately brought it to the attention of management and they did a "spray" and said that would take care of them. It did, for a few months. Taking their word that the problem was taken care of, we signed another lease. In the mean time, nearly every one of our appliances broke- Microwave, garbage disposal, air conditioner to name a few. Maintenance is very good here and if it weren't the constant pest problem, I'd be happy to recommend this place. We then started hearing squeals coming from our walls and realized there were rats living in between our living room and bedroom. Around this time the spiders came back. When we contacted management this time they said it was just our unit that had a pest problem. My guess is that many of the residents have the problem, but don't realize that these spiders are poisonous. We were told that the treatment worked, but it doesn't kill the spider eggs and that's why they always come back, but that we shouldn't worry because these spiders are usually not aggressive. The fact that they admitted they cannot get rid of the problem for good, made us decide leave. Over a year and a half we have easily found over 25 brown recluse spiders. Even with these potentially deadly concerns, they made us give 60 day notice and pay a termination fee. We asked them if they would be disclosing this pest problem to future residents and they said NO.
