I ordered a large rib plate and I was very disssapointed. The ribs look liked they had been eaten off , there was no meat. My sides were sloppy served all together. I have visited many times and was very satisified but this time I was very disssapointed in the quality and quantity of the food. Zero stars
This is place is great for it's food and the founder. The full rack is the altenative example of a typical all you can eat feature in restaurants. Rendevous and Corkys better run for their money because they got some competition. This place would be perfect if someone could remove those annoying little naggers called waitresses.

I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend this place to ANYONE! The food was fair-at best. The only hot item was the fries. The service was awful! From the reviews I'm reading, the only consistency is how bad the service is!
Unfortunately, a number of the reviews for the Neely's are not much better. I'm just glad I didn't go there. I'm sure the prices are higher and if the quality and/or service are no better-oh well, you got me this time!
WOW!!! I The best BBQ I ever had. It was sooo good I even sent a large family package to the family in Californiam and they agreed with me. They were kind, attentive and the food couldn't be beat. I love their food and the BBQ spaghetti is WONDERFUL. Do try this one
The customer service that we recieved, on May 2, 2010, was unacceptable. We were talked to and treated so ugly. This restaurant was choose, due to the world wide exposure that it has repeatly received. Apparently, the exposure has made the staff think that they are above their customers and that they do not need any, more business.

Jim Neeleys is the WORST BBQ
We saw Jim Neeleys on the Travel channel and stopped in while in Memphis last week. Needless to say, I wish we hadn't. It was nothing like shown on TV!! When we first arrived, no one came to seat us, we just stood there watching a woman count money at the register. She never even looked up. Finally someone came to seat us and she was really friendly. After taking our drink order and delivering our drinks, she sat down in a boothe behind us to let us choose our food. Slumped in the boothe is a better choice of words. We ordered the Sampler which sounded good and she assured us it was enough for two people. When the food arrived I was appalled!! The tiny bowls of slaw, beans were certainly NOT enough for two people! We were given two slices of very dry, loaf bread on a saucer. It tasted like it had been sitting out on a counter for a while. I was dissappointed with the bbq also. I was expecting something really great according to the reviews on TV. The atmosphere was good. Lots of old pictures on the wall. But we didn't go for the look of the place, we went to have award winning food, which we did not get. We started to go to the other Neeleys place shown on TV, I wish we had.....maybe it would have been better. I don't think it could have been worse.

After seeing numerous television reviews and the popular Food Network television show we were so looking forward to the opportunity to ""Eat at Neely's"". Hosted dinner -30 people at Jefferson Street location while at a church convention. The experience did not at all match the warm and friendly media image. At a high level, the experience was nothing short of disappointing.
We visited on a Thursday afternoon at about 3:00 p.m. We were a scheduled and expected group (booked with corporate office.) Because of group size, it was their preference for us to eat from their ?groups? menu - flat rate of $18 includes a choice of meat, choice of two sides, bread, sauce, unlimited drink refills, and dessert (sock it to me cake).-includes the tax and gratuity.
Upon arrival no one greeted the party or appeared to be expecting us - no server identified. With a ratio of 1:30, the server was expected to get and fill drink orders, get and deliver the meal and to cut and serve the dessert.
Staff failed to prepare for our arrival by having adequate silverware available. I, the paying customer, personally passed out silverware, but ?bused? tables and refilled guest beverages.
Food was disappointing. The plates are institutional like?.like a prison or a high school and our food was slopped on to the plates accordingly. The rolls are nothing special and were cool, out of the package with hunks of butter smeared on top?might have been better warmed. Portions very small and cold.
A ?no frills? atmosphere - padded booths and chairs, dark wood paneling, and historical memorabilia decorating the walls with overhead speakers belting out the blues.
Sock it to me cake was good. Pecan pie not a fav (out of the box cut and serve?I watched them do it.)
The management and the staff are very task oriented - focused on getting a plate out to you?but not on making your experience memorable and special.
Trust me when I say?it?s not a good choice.

I have eaten about 4 times at the Neeleys off the interstate going to Olive Branch, Miss. The people were nice there and the food was great. I guess it is in Desoto county??
HOWEVER, for the first (and last time) I went to the one in Memphis and the employees were so nasty and rude that I will NEVER eat there again. There were 2 women at the register who acted like I didnt exist, and then another woman ( alittle older maybe in her late 60's) who finally told me where to go to order was the biggest B **** you would ever see in any restaurant. I still for the life of me am trying to figure out why these people were so hateful and rude. But they were!!
I love the pulled pork the best. That day when they were so hateful, they gave me the wrong type ribs, but they tasted good. All in all, I will never set 1 foot back in the Memphis location. The beans and potato salad are very good! My favorite is the pulled pork.
Like I said, the employees make you NEVER want to eat there again!!
I hope the owners read this but then again it probably wont do any good.

Went in for early lunch - waited in line to be seated, employee comes up, flips sign that says ""seat yourself"" with nary a word. we seated ourselves... waited forever for menus which were thrown at us, waited forever for drink orders to be taken and then served, again for order to be taken,,,,,,,, but surprise! the food came out reasonable quickly by someone other than our ""server"". we asked for catsup and hot sauce which never came. we got up and borrowed some from other patrons. food was fine but service ruined the experience. we waited forever for a bill, then waited at the register forever to finally be told that register was closed .. we paid in the takeout (i guess) area. too much bbq in memphis to put up with this kind of service. stay away... go to Rendezvous, Central BBQ, The Commissary... anywhere else. Trust me.

On my BBQ quest to Memphis I stopped at Jim Neely's Interstate Barbecue on 3rd street. WOW-WOW-WOW. Need I say more? I had the Sampler Platter, billed as ?A Trip to Hog Heaven!? Pork Ribs, tender, cooked and seasoned just right. Beef Ribs, beefy and again cooked correctly. Links, just a little to mealy for my taste. Beef Brisket & Pork Shoulder, both beef and pork were right out of Memphis great ?Q?. B-B-Q Spaghetti, not my thing but good. Beans, Slaw, these items were very good, but who has the room for them? O ya had a side of Rib Tips, the real thing, perfect. The only down side was they sauce everything, I like my sauce on the side. Make sure to get the sweet potato pie, take out for later if need be.

Second trip to Interstate BBQ and .... pretty much the last. Service stinks. Got the order wrong and the ticket was incorrect also. As for the ribs and BBQ plate, the taste is not up the great reviews I've read. Average for the food and below average for everything else.

I arrived on a Saturday night, 6:30 pm. The place was about empty, maybe 10 customers in the place and my friends and I waited 10 minutes to be seated. I ordered the sampler plate; the pork and beef were dry, very dry, to dry to eat in fact. The sausage was ?crunchy? way too dry. It was as if all the food had been left in the pit way too long and dried out.
On the up side, the sauce was unique and had a very good flavor; the beef ribs were the best things on the plate. Oh and the BBQ spaghetti was a nice twist, different and the coleslaw was very good. Sorry, but all and all, being from out of town I would not recommend this place to any visitors.

I actually first had Jim Neely's BBQ at a layover at the Memphis Airport. I saw a superlong wraparound line, and many other restaurants right there with room to spare, so I though I had to get in that long line to see what the fuss was about. I was floored. This was handsdown the best BBQ EVERYTHING I've ever had. From the potato salad to the baked beans, to the wonderful juicy chicken......I'm now interested in scheduling my flights just so I can have that layover in Memphis and get some of that Q. And I a notoriously picky eater
