Best tasting barbecue in Memphis

Business History
In 1978, I purchased Interstate Grocery at 2265 South 3rd Street, and in 1979, I purchased the property and then converted the store to Interstate BBQ Restaurant. This established the Neely name on the Memphis BBQ scene. However, it wasn't long before we were expanding and creating what has become our world-famous reputation for the finest in BBQ! In 1984, I opened the Jay Bee's BBQ in California. In 1988, after working their way through high school, and a while after some college, my nephews, Pat and Tony decided they wanted to open a resaurant of ther own. I designed two BBQ pits for them and helped them open their first resaurant on Madison. For them, the rest is history, with their new food show. In 2008, we celebrated thirty years of being in business. I now have a national reputation for great BBQ that has earned me a place on the travel channel weekly for the past three years. -- Jim Neely, founder

The food was good, but the service was terrible. Do not use the drive-thru, it takes twice as long as carry-out! Cashiers are always unfriendly!

I ordered a large rib plate and I was very disssapointed. The ribs look liked they had been eaten off , there was no meat. My sides were sloppy served all together. I have visited many times and was very satisified but this time I was very disssapointed in the quality and quantity of the food. Zero stars

This is place is great for it'...

This is place is great for it's food and the founder. The full rack is the altenative example of a typical all you can eat feature in restaurants. Rendevous and Corkys better run for their money because they got some competition. This place would be perfect if someone could remove those annoying little naggers called waitresses.

We love Memphis and we love Memphis BBQ and Interstate is the best in town!!!

Interstate Bar-B-Q

I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend this place to ANYONE! The food was fair-at best. The only hot item was the fries. The service was awful! From the reviews I'm reading, the only consistency is how bad the service is!

Unfortunately, a number of the reviews for the Neely's are not much better. I'm just glad I didn't go there. I'm sure the prices are higher and if the quality and/or service are no better-oh well, you got me this time!

Very disappointed.

hungry for good food

WOW!!! I The best BBQ I ever had. It was sooo good I even sent a large family package to the family in Californiam and they agreed with me. They were kind, attentive and the food couldn't be beat. I love their food and the BBQ spaghetti is WONDERFUL. Do try this one

Horrible customer service.

The customer service that we recieved, on May 2, 2010, was unacceptable. We were talked to and treated so ugly. This restaurant was choose, due to the world wide exposure that it has repeatly received. Apparently, the exposure has made the staff think that they are above their customers and that they do not need any, more business.

Horrible all around

I have never left no tip in my life until I went to Interstate. Service was ZERO stars. Food came out cold, and it was mediocre BBQ anyhow. Waste of time and money.

Worst BBQ Place I ever visited!

Jim Neeleys is the WORST BBQ

We saw Jim Neeleys on the Travel channel and stopped in while in Memphis last week. Needless to say, I wish we hadn't. It was nothing like shown on TV!! When we first arrived, no one came to seat us, we just stood there watching a woman count money at the register. She never even looked up. Finally someone came to seat us and she was really friendly. After taking our drink order and delivering our drinks, she sat down in a boothe behind us to let us choose our food. Slumped in the boothe is a better choice of words. We ordered the Sampler which sounded good and she assured us it was enough for two people. When the food arrived I was appalled!! The tiny bowls of slaw, beans were certainly NOT enough for two people! We were given two slices of very dry, loaf bread on a saucer. It tasted like it had been sitting out on a counter for a while. I was dissappointed with the bbq also. I was expecting something really great according to the reviews on TV. The atmosphere was good. Lots of old pictures on the wall. But we didn't go for the look of the place, we went to have award winning food, which we did not get. We started to go to the other Neeleys place shown on TV, I wish we had.....maybe it would have been better. I don't think it could have been worse.

We just redesigned! Do you like it?
