As a minority family we were welcomed in to get minority numbers up. Once enrolled we were never included in events, especially socially. Had many problems with teachers recording "ERRONEOUS" grades. If you are not a minority, you will definitely fit in ; otherwise, DON'T BOTHER!!! Save your children from the low self esteem like our kids suffered after we left. NOT WORTH YOUR TIME! Minority families last only a year maybe two. A rapid turnover for minorities at this school. I WONDER WHY?!!The only diversity at this school is the football team. Only the 8th grade team. Because there aren't enough students from the school to make a team, they BORROW BLACK BOYS from Binghamton to play for them. But check the yearbook! How many of these black boys are actually ALLOWED to attend this "white privileged" school. Let me answer that for you. "NONE"!!!!CHALLENGE: Those who choose to leave glowing reviews, please speak honestly about the schools' criminal lack of diversity and how distant and non inclusive the minorities are treated from the students, teachers and especially the majority parents. It is easy to speak with wonderful views when you are a part of the majority and treated beautifully. But, WHAT ABOUT THE MINORITIES? Who will speak for them?? WILL YOU, THE MAJORITY GROUP steeped with your "RICH history" (code word= racism) and exclusive community???? Very rarely are the minorities invited to your dinner parties, neighborhood parties, kids Birthday parties, play dates, and let's not forget definitely NOT THE SLEEPOVERS!!! TOTAL EXCLUSION!!! Go on I'm waiting for just ONE brave person from the majority to speak to and for the minorities at this school about their SO CALLED WONDERFUL TREATMENT AND EXPERIENCE!!! ANXIOUSLY WAITING!

This is a horrible school. They used to have a decent program, but now they are just taking a lot of money from parents and getting by on their past reputation. I've met many people who were unhappy there and transferred their kid(s) to another school in Memphis, such as Grahamwood or Holy Rosary. It's a convenient location if you live in Midtown, but that's about it. There are a few great teachers, but the high-level administration is awful. They don't care about the students, and there's no individualized instruction. I feel like they are trying to make them into little robots who grow up to be big robots. Frankly, it's a snobby school that does not live up to the "high standards" they promote. The only real standards they have is that the parents can pay the tuition, as well as commit to donate a certain amount of additional money every year. Oh, and if your kid ever has any behavior issues or is slightly "different" in any way, forget it.
GREAT SCHOOL FOR MY ANY CHILD AND I LOVE THAT EVERYONE CARE ABOUT EACH CHILD. I WILL TELL ANYONE THAT THE STAFF CARE ABOUT THE STUDENTS AT SE ACADEMY. LOVE WHAT I SEE AND WHAT THE STAFF DO EACH DAY
My dd was scheduled to go to this school after finishing Sherwood Elm., I refused to let her go. Mainly, due to a tour the Sherwood elementary gave the upcoming graduating class that particlar year...to Sherwood Middle as an introductory tour. My dd was very upset after the tour to Sherwood Middle School. She creid and begged me not to let her attend that school. She then went on to tell me.....during her tour she heard the teachers literally cursing the students out and the students cursing the teachers out like a typical conversation. She said the kids were simply wild, out of order and so beserk, it frighten her. I apologized to her that what was meant for a friendly tour turned out to be a nightmare. I know my friends had already pleaded to me not to let her go due to experience they had there with ther kids...with all the fights and teacher/student conflicts. A few years back a Sherwood Middle student jumped on and vandalized my car while I was in Sherwood elementary reporting their mis-conduct in front of the smaller kids....boy did I pay for that. The police officer at the Middle School knew the middle shcool kids" parent who vandalized the car and asked me to drop vandalism charges. Also, I attended an event at Sherwood Middle once and afterward...gun shots were fired causing students to become agitated. Today, I am so glad I listened to word of mouth and paid attention to actions and occurrences. I havent heard much lately about Sherwood Middle School...hopefully it has calmed down. Due to my experiences and that of my dd I am giving this school a 1 star.
Southern Ave Middle School, I can only speak for their first year in operation in which my daughter attended. My daughter loved the school and had tons of fun with her classmates. I, on the other hand thought the middle school was a joke. First, they took away the kids computer (banded home use), they allowed the kids to master mind the teachers. The kids (girls) were not respectful to authorative figures. I set in on a few classes and tried to assist in deterring unaceptable behavior...the girls told my daughter they hated me, they rolled their eyes and snorted ugly remarks...it was a nightmare. They ran my blood pressure up causing me to relinquish my volunteer position of sitting in on the classrooms and helping students with assignments. Mind you, they did this (dis-respect) to any instructor who tried to feasibly disclipine them. In all fairness, I have no idea whether things have improved or not. I hope things are much better.I have never heard parents complain about the elementary school though, one parent (a co-worker) stated she loved Southern Ave Elementary School.
