We hired Craig Wallace after he was recommended to us by our realtor for our home inspection. He was a nice guy, but I cannot recommend him as a home inspector for a couple of reasons. He missed some issues in our home that should have been brought to our attention. His report was a handwritten checklist on carbon paper. No photographs, very old school. But the main reason I wish I had never hired Mr. Wallace is that since we hired him in 2013 I have received a barrage of forwarded messages, and I continue to receive them despite multiple requests for him to remove my email from his list. He uses email addresses from clients in his personal email forwards with political and social issues. This is unprofessional and discourteous!

While Mr. Wallace was amiable,...

While Mr. Wallace was amiable, his services left a lot to be desired.

1) Mr. Wallace noted during the inspection that there were no signs of rodents in the house. When I moved in a week and a half later, we opened the cabinets to find an abundance of mouse droppings and urine.

2) When viewing my roof from outside, we viewed a dent in the roof, which he said was not a structural issue. When checking my attic/crawl space, Mr. Wallace said there was a cracked rafter and some mold. After moving in, I had a roofer come in and fix the rafter, only to be told my that not only was there a old roof that was never removed, but it was completely covered in black mold and structurally unstable. It was a real possibility that my roof could have caved in, not to mention cave in my house as all the pressure from the roof was resting on the eaves of my house. The roofer said it was the poorest constructed roof he had ever seen and that it should have obviously been noted by my home inspector. The entire roof had to be removed and a new roof built in its place. Luckily, the roofer had the roof up in one week, right before the first big snowstorm of the season (I highly recommend Heritage Roofing out of Upton, MA). However, due the vague language of the inspection report, I was not able to pursue any compensation.

Due to these two huge oversights, I cannot recommend Mr. Wallace's services. A home inspector is supposed to thoroughly check a home and make you aware of all the issues so you are not beset with any unforeseen problems when you buy it, not to mention insure your safety when living in the house. Mr. Wallace did not meet these obligations.
