I had American Family insurance (and a really great agent) for years where I had lived before. After moving here, staying with AmFam was the easy thing to do. The agent in Ashland at that time, Zach, seemed okay. Not long afterwards, I received communication from AmFam that Zach was no longer my agent, that Barbara Deforest was. I was not consulted on that decision, nor was any explanation given for the switch. My previous agent conceded that that had been poorly handled. I met with Barbara and was unimpressed to the point where I fully intended to either find a different agent or change insurance companies altogether. I never got around to it, which turned out to be an enormous mistake.I was involved in an auto accident last year for which I was not at fault. I had no idea that if you don't carry rental car insurance that YOU are responsible for negotiating with the other party's insurance company for reimbursement! Had I known, I would have chosen to carry that option. Obviously Barbara did not give me that information when I met with her.In the end, I was reimbursed only a fraction of what I spent on a rental car while my car was being repaired. Having to deal with the other party's insurance company, myself, was a nightmare. I kept attempting to contact AmFam, believing it to be their responsibility, as my insurance company, to negotiate on my behalf. It is not (I contacted the state insurance commission, who verified that) but nobody from AmFam, including Barbara, thought to tell me that critical fact!Throughout the process, which took (literally) more than 6 months, I found dealing with AmFam to be arduous and frustrating. Even the auto body shop commented on how AmFam dragged their feet in submitting necessary information, with the result that my car took a very long time to be repaired (and I was paying out of my pocket for a rental car all that time). Barbara responded to my emails, but in the end all she did was placate me...she did not take any direct action on my behalf, nor did she think to tell me the truth (simple factual information) about how the process actually works. Unbelievable.I switched to State Farm and found an agent who is vastly more capable, thorough, and confidence-inspiring than Barbara Deforest. Learn from my mistake and avoid AmFam insurance. If that is not an option, I would at least find an agent other than Barbara Deforest.
I have had an incredibly poor experience with Gabe and his customer service. I have felt hurried and rushed during my interactions with him, which is unsettling when it comes to an insurance policy. He has also made several errors in my account, the most recent which has cost me hours on the phone to correct and several hundred dollars loss. It takes him hours to days to return my calls. Since he is an independent agent, it is very difficult to make him accountable for the time and money that he has cost me. I do not recommend that you work with this agent.
After being outright lied to, failure to follow through with verbal agreements and harassed by his staff, I've had enough. There are far superior agents representing State Farm. Manny is at the bottom of the barrel and not worth your time. Can't stand anyone who lies to cover his tracks and tells the customer they are canceling all policies when you remind him what he had agreed to do. What a jackass.
I went into Oscar's office to get another agent's opinion on a situation I had been trying to resolve for a month with my current agent. And, in less than 30 minutes Oscar helped to resolve the issue that the other agent drug out for over a month. Needless to say I am switching agents.

Barbara and her staff first first class. You would be hard pressed to find an agent that has as much integrity and class as Barbara. She is extremely knowledgable about all phases of insurnace auto, home, life, business and more. You can trust her to give you the facts when discussing your insurance needs. Uneducated and horrible customer service. Will stretch the truth to sell additional insurance. Inexpensive rates BUT you get what you pay for! Highly recommend a different agent or better yet, different company.
Our family has placed its insurance needs, including home, car, boat, collector cars, Part B Medicare and Drug coverage, and umbrella liablility protection with these folks for over 15 years. In a simple phrase, they know exactly what they're doing and always keep pace with the "Marketplace". Recently a certain carrier took a rather sharp raise in rates and our IMP rep was on it in short order, actually reducing what we had been paying. Best of all, the new carrier is an in-state company, which means more of the revenue remains in Oregon.

Your ALLSTATE AGENT gets "PAID" to lie to you about a claim, if they can get you denied by lying to or making you lose track of time by LYING to you, they each get a BONUS. YES EVERY ALLSTATE AGENT MAKES EXTRA ON THE PAYCHECK BY LYING TO YOU!!! Each AGENT GETS PAID for every claim that gets denied, and if the agent has to lie to you to make it happen, THEY WILL! IT HAPPENED TO US, for so many months, and we went to the TOP (PESIDENT OF THE COMPANY) who also lied through the teeth. Or made the employees do it for them. Okay ALLSTATE!
