All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
5.0 star rating 12/17/15 I recently purchased a 2016 GTI from Colonial VW in Medford and have been incredibly pleased with the overall purchase experience. The process was incredibly easy, fast and no-nonsense. I worked with Caduste, who I would highly recommend as a sales person. He is very knowledgeable about the VW brand was able to walk me through many of the different packages offered on the vehicle. Despite their very large inventory, the exact car that I wanted was not in-stock. However, Caduste was more than happy to track one day for me and got it over to the dealership sooner than either of us expected. I really appreciated his willingness to go above and beyond to find the right vehicle for me. The Sales Manager at the dealership, Scott, was also incredible to work with. He gave us an very fair price on the car and started out with the best price in comparison to every other Boston dealer I visited. He is someone who wants to earn your business and will do anything within his means to make sure you leave as a happy customer. The dealership itself has recently been constructed and is absolutely beautiful inside and out. They take great care of the facilities and I'm eager to go in for my first service already. All-in-all, this dealership is top notch and I would most definitely recommend to both friends and family. Thank you to everyone at Colonial for a wonderful purchase experience!
Amazing job doing my VW Passat 1999 front control arms (4 upper and 4 lower), sway bar links and outer tie rods. I shopped around in 5-6 places for labor only, as I've got parts bought online, got the best price from Nick ($300) while others were starting at $350-$375+. Some crazy person from craigslist even quoted me $600 for this job... Nick promptly called me when the car was ready (unlike some other shop on Mass Ave which I had to chase by phone..) After such control arms swap one is supposed to do wheel alignment, my car was pulling right after GoodyearGemini alignment this May, Nick didn't commit to do alignment as laser equipment is needed for that - I was aware of this. To my big surprise - just with a ruler Nick managed to set steering wheel straight and car doesn't pull to any side. Also all knocks and squeeks are gone after control arms replacement just as I expected!! Besides Nick is a honest, courteous and gentle person, so unusual to meet in auto repair business, and he's also professional in VWs and Audis family. I wish I found him earlier! Highly recommended for your VW/Audi. He also does other Europeans but I only brought to him my VW.
First off I have to say this is my 2nd time coming to Colonial Nissan in Medford, my first experience was ok... I bought a 2007 Nissan Murano which I loved. This visit was amazing.. A week ago I got a call from one of the sales reps there offering to help us out. I really didn`t believe anything would come out of it but my fiance and I went there Saturday. We met with the best sales rep there, his name is Paul. He showed us different Nissan Muranos and Rogues, he took us to test drive both and sat there listening to everything we wanted in a vehicle. He found us a SUV with everything we wanted. He then worked with the fiance manager to get us a great rate and monthly payment. They both stayed late on Saturday even though there was a snow storm. My fiance and I left there so happy. I picked up my 2013 Nissan Rogue today and it feels amazing. These guys really know the meaning of exceptional customer service. They were very professional and friendly. Def the best car buying experience I have had ever!
My salesperson, Vincenzo “Vinny’ Varacalli, was exceptional! He is personable, attentive, very knowledgeable, diligent and a perfect gentleman. Vinny streamlined the whole process easy from beginning to end. He always kept me up to date on the status of my car, and made sure I got the vehicle I would be happy with, and there was no pressure! He even handled all of registration and insurance leg work. (He even returned my rental for me!) I also want to comment about the finance manager, Rami Tayoun ... he was very patient, helpful, on the ball and an absolute blast to work with! He ensured I got the best deal I could possibly get! This is my second car with Vinny and Colonial. While I probably won't be buying/leasing another Nissan for a while, when I do I will be sure to come back to these guys! (I am sure to be more than satisfied.) I would highly recommend this dealership to my friends and family! Thanks again, Vinny!
Can't even begin to tell you how happy I am with my new 2014 Nissan Rogue SL & I owe it all to Jason Angelesco.Having been misled by local dealerships, I appreciated how genuine and honest and downright knowledgable Jason was and helping me make my decision. We recently have been through some hardships as a family so his sincerity was a blessing.I don't know too much about cars but Jason not only took the time to inform me on all the details of the cars in the lot, but also gave me some useful knowledge on cars in general. He was patient, kind & generous.Traits that seem hard to come by latey in this world so that's why I wanted to take the time and write this review. There needs to be more Jason Angelesco's in the car sales world.
I have brought in my 2005 Nissan Murano (188k miles) to Nick's the past year with a variety of issues , running from small and simple oil and filter changes to changing tire rods, alternators and the exhaust system to name a few . Nick has been courteous and straightforward with the repairs that needed to be done to the car. Their was no up-selling whatsoever. I haven't had to bring my car back to Nick for anything that he repaired, it was done correctly and professionally. Nick's prices were extremely fair and reasonable and his work was impeccable. I would highly recommend anyone looking for car repairs to bring it over to Nicks.
Nick is the best mechanic I have ever had! He has performed almost every service on my 2000 Volvo S80 T6 since 2005 and the car still runs LIKE NEW. Not to mention that he is WAY cheaper than the dealership on all parts and services. If you want a mechanic you can trust, go to Nick. He will not try to rob you like most mechanics out there. I go to him for everything, including basic oil changes. Let Nick work on your car, you won't regret it.
where to begin you got there knowing what I wanted and that's what I definitely got out with I bought a Nissan Rogue with the help of Nilo Oliveira thank you so much for making my experience amazing and helping me get what I definitely wanted will be definitely recommending you to everyone I know you're a great sales and leasing specialist in colonial Nissan should be thankful in having you work with them thanks man #nissarouge obrigado Nilo
Robert C. our salesman was fantastic! He was VERY knowledgeable and very professional. We visited four different dealerships and spoke with a lot of salespeople, he was head and shoulders above the rest. He got us the right car at the right price. It was a no hassle experience from start to finish, even filling out the paper work with Anna who made sure we did not leave any old records in our trade in car in case of identity theft.
I've had Nick work on my VW several times over the past couple of years. Every time he's quick, affordable, and honest. You have to trust your mechanic and you have to be able to afford to get work done when it needs to get done - I get both from Nick and recommend him highly, especially to folks with Volkswagens as he really knows German cars (and all that makes them "special").
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
