Overall

Misdiagnosed my cat's heart attack as an asthma attack and kept him malingering in pricey oxygen for over 24 hours without any real diagnosis or treatment; when his condition hadn't improved and they were closing for the holiday, they misled me about local options in order to keep him in their network so they could continue draining my money rather than having him go to a closer place to keep receiving oxygen (note that there was no guarantee he would survive the car ride without oxygen, so any increase in distance might be deadly!). Fortunately I found the closer location on my own and after only 5 hours in their care he was already out of oxygen and improving. Now he's home recovering, no thanks to the "care" he received at this ER which delayed his treatment by a whole week-end! Meantime I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing them and was in the way, which I thought was standard protocol for emergency vets until I got to this other place (Rossmoyne Animal Emergency Trauma Center) and was welcomed by friendly faces even during their busiest times and was invited to visit with my cat for hours rather than being barely tolerated briefly. Not only is the treatment offered by the Mechanicsburg ER at Willow Mill inept, but you'll be made to feel like you're in their way the whole time they're draining your bank account for their overpriced ignorance!

Overall

In an effort to clear up any confusion. This practice opened its doors on November 1st 2012. The owners of the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of York opened this new practice in Mechanicsburg due to the overwhelming need for high quality emergency veterinary medicine in the Mechanicsburg/Harrisburg area. For years we have been asked by the clients who have had to drive to York for emergencies, and the veterinarians who have referred them to bring the quality of care people have been used to in York closer to them. We responded by Opening the Animal Emergency Center of Mechanicsburg within The Willow Mill Veterinary Hospital. We want to assure our trusted clients that we are in no way affiliated with the Animal Emergency MEDICAL Center that used to be in the same location. That practice, its owners and staff have move on to a new location. We appreciate your continued confidence and referrals and will continue to be the compassionate and dependable choice for emergency veterinary medicine that you have come to trust.

Beware of overcharging and high cost

This place (AEMC) shares facilities with Willow Mill Vet Hospital and anytime your pet is hospitalized at Willow Mill, responsibility for its care is transferred to AEMC on weeknights and weekends. Therefore, you are double-charged for care by both places. AEMC not only overcharged me for care (only acknowledged after I complained about the high prices) but charges 2 to 3 times higher for services than Willow Mill. I paid approx $500 for 12 injections at AEMC that at Willow Mill cost me $225. AEMC does not provide a detailed list of charges (as Willow Mill does) so they can easily hide the over and high charges. It is the only emergency place in Hbg area and Willow Mill's partner in care but beware of using either place. Double-check your bills at both places (I was also over-charged at Willow Mill a couple times and charged for services I did not pre-approve). I asked for an explanation why AEMC charges are so much higher but no one there would provide a reasonable explanation so I assume that they are just taking advantage of the situation.
