Eating alone? No problem. Everybody cross-talks from table to table. Doing a crossword ? Could get the answer from a contractor, a copywriter or a tattooed Deep Ellum musician. Reading and want to be quiet and alone? Take a left-side back table. Have kids? It becomes the "Village" that happily takes care of the little people. At any hour, you are welcome in your sweats, dressed from the office, or with purple hair, aged 6 months or 80 years on a walker. It is a lively neighborhood , family-owned place that becomes addictive. (I have been going since 1983 and my husband and I for 15 years!) The burgers are home-made, the eggs fresh, the bacon crisp, the meatloaf or enchiladas or daily specials always delicious. They have vegetarian goodies too. The cooks, kitchen help and waitpeople are all family and George, who runs the place, is as kind and easy going as they come. This has been one of the best kept secrets in Dallas except when the Dallas Observer nearly wrecked the joint with overcrowding after becoming one of its "Best of Dallas" winners a couple of years ago. There are lots of new places to eat in the area...Uptown...Greenville Ave., Henderson, etc., all more expensive, often pretentious and short lived. Some restaurants offer "an experience in fine dining". The Gold Rush Cafe offers an "experience of comfort food among extended family."

It is pleasantly located in the mist of many diverse shops and offers the convenience for review of Barnes and Noble publications prior to purchase. Service is on par with other Starbucks. The only drawback is the limited seating space but otherwise it is extremely pleasant and hits the …

Coffee: Great. To be sure, you can drink it without sugar or cream and the flavor is nice, never bitter, never burnt, and always fresh. Food: Excellent. Locally sourced, always tasty with a great variety and super high quality ingredients. It's pretty high end stuff really but without being pricey. Music: Superior. You can learn a lot of new (or new to you) artists just by listening to the tunes and running over to check the playlist monitor. Atmosphere: Unique. Plenty of variety to perch, set up to work or chat with friends. And they actually have walls filled with art that rises above the community college art student level. It's just high quality all around. And that includes the people you may meet if you are so inclined. It's very communal in that way, especially downstairs.
This is AMAZING!!! The food was out of this world. We tried the greek combo which was just great. If you want to really stimulate your palette this is the way to go. The mousaka was the hit on the plate. My husband and I agreed they much just have a jar labeled "AWESOME" for the seasoning on the scampi. There's no other way to describe it. The kabob was amazing as well. If they have it when you go, get the NAVY BEAN SOUP. It will change your life. The atmosphere, service, food...all A++++ top notch. Will probably be going there for lunch tomorrow. Go there now. Don't hesitate. Stop looking. You've found the place to go.
I love South Dallas Café!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The food & people are great. The service is prompt and the restaurant is clean "always". I live in Oklahoma and every chance I get to go to Dallas I seek out South Dallas Café. Anyone that knows soul food, know you can't put a price on it. After I eat I have to stay overnight in a hotel and rest my stomach. The drive and price is worth it. Thank you South Dallas Café for the time, effort and love you put into preparing and serving so many varies of soul food. Deborah W.
Gio's is a family owned and operated independent New York style Deli. The owners, Spiro and Lisa, have dedicated all their time to provide North Dallas with exquisite true Deli cuisine, plus some of the best sandwiches you've ever layed your lips on. Their soups are to die for, but when you get to the bakery items, all made in-house, you will actually think you have died and arrived in heaven. My whole-hearted two thumbs to Spiro and Lisa for a job well done. Get there early, sometimes there is a wait. Enjoy.
My daughter and I just finished lunch here. It was one of the most delightful dining experiences I have ever had. The food is fresh, carefully and thoughtfully prepared and delicious. The sfaff is wonderful and our waiter Georgio is the consumate professional. He made my daughter and I feel like royalty. The owner and her daughter are the warmest, sweetest people you will ever meet. I just can't say enough good about the place. We are thrilled to have CoffeeHouse Cafe in our neighborhood. I can't wait to go back.
I was first introduced to Cafe Lago a year and a half ago and have been enjoying their delectable food and peaceful atmosphere on a regular basis since that first visit. It is a great spot to hit no matter what type of food you are in the mood for! The food is consistently delicious and service is always friendly. I regularly introduce new friends to this neighborhood gem! It's nice to have a local spot where the owner is always there to ensure you have a great environment to relax and enjoy delicious food.
Coffee House Cafe is a Cafe that serves the best Breakfast, Brunch and Lunch in the Dallas Area. They have a very modern coffee bar along with the best coffee my daughter and I have ever had. All of their food is made fresh right there. The staff is incredibly friendly and add to the overall ambiance of the restaurant. If you love Sunday Brunch this is the place to dine. Our waiter Georgio topped off our dining experience with his compassionate personality.
Nice cafe with a great homestyle breakfast. They close in the afternoon everyday so you have to go for breakfast or lunch. I went on a Sunday and the location is fairly small so you may have to wait in line for a few minutes however they serve you quickly. I was in and out in 30 minutes. The atmosphere and the food was nice for a good Sunday breakfast or lunch. There is quite a bit of variety on the menu. I would recommend.
If you don't mind plastic cloths on the table and little to no decor/ambiance, this is a great place to find good old fashioned home cooking. This diner offers many menu items, but the real deal is to order off of the daily special dinners. Several choices of entrees and veggies are offered at a price no one can beat. Homemade yeast rolls and cornbread round out the daily special. All for an average price of $6.50.
