Mason City Roofing Inc

Prior to selecting Mason City Roofing, we received three bids from licensed contractors. Although their bid was the highest, we believed that it included a complete roof ventilation system and they offered a ten year workmanship warranty. The literature included with the bid was The Edge Vent and SMARTVENT by DCI for air intake, and ThermaCal insulation panels. I called them twice to seek understanding of the ventilation system prior to signing the work order and specifically brought up the page titled, “Eligibility Requirements For the System Plus Ltd Warranty.” I asked about the shingle over intake vent to which the project manager said that, “all of it is included,” and said nothing about additional costs for the intake and sheeting pieces. Upon receipt of the work completion invoice, we noticed a “No ventilation,” comment on it yet no reduction in cost. They acted surprised about our misunderstanding of the absence of the system and tried to justify not including it by saying that the cost would be exorbitant. It is possible that this misunderstanding was caused by the project manager's failure to listen as he had a bad habit of interrupting and not allowing me to speak during the three calls before the job and one afterwards. I literally could not get through a single sentence without being interrupted. Additionally, there were two extra charges on the final invoice that did not appear on the original work order. We were told prior to signing the contract that the roofers would call from the job if there were any decisions to be made during the course of the project, and this never happened. In the end, we feel that Mason City Roofing oversells their products and is terrible with customer service. They offer the longest workmanship warranty and we hope that the workmanship is good so that we don't have to communicate with them again.
