Automotive Diagnostic Center, Marysville, WA: I had done business with Mr. Wilbur over a year and ½ (September 2014-May 2016). In that time, I put over $11,000 into his business, including an engine rebuild. I would say I got about 55% good and 45% bad for my money. He has problems with some of his parts (distributor, alternator), and some of his mechanics (leaving parts loose or forgetting to do work, overfilling at oil changes repeatedly, and putting coil wire near engine so as to die on the road). His A/C mechanic mis-diagnosed twice at my cost, though Mr. Wilbur promised air blowing "popsicle sticks." Also, once Mr. Wilbur has determined my bill, he has typically refused to change it, no matter how ridiculous his charges are. He comes across as knowledgeable and friendly, until you realize he overcharges, and there are too many recurrent problems from the work done there. He claims higher prices for the supposed quality. This is not the case at all.Mr. Wilbur refuses to honor one of his warranties. An alternator was installed on 12/2/15 by one of his mechanics. On 12/3/15, a check engine light came on, and it looked like a problem. I called Mr. Wilbur, and he said to bring it in. The check engine light went out by the time I arrived there. Mr. Wilbur seemed happy at this, and did not have his mechanic take a look. Six and ½ months later, Mr. Wilbur’s alternator not only failed, but it also destroyed my PCM (confirmed later by a separate mechanic after Mr. Wilbur's alternator destroyed other new PCMs until the alternator was replaced). I called to Mr. Wilbur since I was stranded out of town with his failed alternator. He did not respond back in almost 2 business days, so I had to call again and take care of it myself. Yet, he refuses to reimburse me to this day, and it has cost me an added $1480.72 because I went to his shop. If he would have reimbursed me fairly, I would not have had to write this. I see others have had similar experiences with Mr. Wilbur.
The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and their prices were comparable to what I could get off the internet. Will be back for more work on the truck.
Like other reviews suggest, Automotive Diagnostics will take your money, and give you a sense that they know what they are doing. And sometimes they do, but too often, they have repaired something that did not need repaired and gave the illusion it was fixed, but they won't refund you for their errors. They just keep taking your money for subpar work.
The staff at Randy's Off-road are the best and honest group and it was a pleasure building both my fj-40 and my Ford F250. They are top notch and I recommend all my friends and family to only go to them. The only down fall is they are always like a week out on scheduling but I guess that is because they are that good. I have scheduled 3 appointments and every time I've gone they send me back and schedule me for later. A simple tire rotation! Horrible service. I walked in and I Waited until someone from the waiting room ended up being an employee and finally asked me what I needed. Never coming back again the worst customer service in my life!
I took one of our company trucks there after a loose washer that was inside the gear housing on the front of the engine took out gears and pumps and made a real mess.( It appears that someone had left a washer floating during an earlier repair.) They were backed up due to so many other customers so I left the truck and caught a bus home. As soon as they could work me in they quickly diagnosed the problems and repaired them expertly. They even changed my front main seal that was leaking and I had forgotten to ask them to do it. I really appreciated that rather than having to pay the expense of all the labor to dig into it at a later time. That shows integrity to me. When I was paying my very reasonable bill there were other customers in the shop who were repeat customers who had nothing but good things to say about their history of doing business there. One guy told me it wouldn't matter where he lived he would come back to Randy's for his repairs. He told me even though Im from Spokane that it would be worth my while to stay with this shop for all my future repairs. This is a high volume specialty shop that works on a ton of trucks. I really appreciate the honest and professional way they treated me.
Summary: Stryker Brothers recommended a very expensive repair that my vehicle didn't actually need.Full Story: My Durango died on a Thursday in front of Auto Zone. The employees said they thought it might be a sensor, so I decided to get the car into a mechanic right away instead of wait for our friend who normally repairs our vehicles because it was likely going to be a quick, inexpensive fix. I chose Stryker Brothers because it had the best ratings out of nearby mechanic shops, so I was expecting honesty.They said they'd diagnose the car and get back to my on Friday, which they did, at which point they told me that they'd discovered that my head gasket needed to be replaced, which usually runs at least $2500, and that with the miles I had on it (140K, so really not too high) that they'd recommend a full engine replacement instead of the head gasket, which would be more like $4000. That's more than the Durango is worth.Well, our mechanic friend could do the head gasket for way less, so I got the Durango home, but when he looked at the printout of the test they did, he said that a head gasket is only one of a few potential problems that the test result could mean, and it's the most expensive problem. Instead of doing further testing, they just gave me the most expensive option and recommended the most expensive fix for it! A cheap test that our friend did showed that it was NOT the head gasket, and that the car really just needed a thorough tune-up and more transmission fluid--way less expensive than a head gasket.I was very disappointed with their not doing further testing and in trying to recommend the most expensive thing they could potentially get me to do. I would have paid out to fix the head gasket and still been left with the same problems. At best, this was a serious oversight on their part, and at worst it was outright dishonesty to try to make more money off of me.
