Marion Correctional Institution has been operational since 1954. The institution has a staff of more than 450 employees. Its facility is spread over an area of nearly 1,000 acres. Marion Correctional Institution houses a population of more than 2,000 individuals. The institution conducts basic and general education programs. It organizes vocational classes that offer training on welding, agriculture and administrative office technology techniques. Marion Correctional Institution provides religious education sessions for individuals. The institution offers the Helping Ourselves Pursue Excellence (H.O.P.E) program that includes peer mentoring, healthy communication, leadership development, problem solving and conflict management activities, as well as provides the analysis of individual thinking, group development and job search skills. Marion Correctional Institution is a part of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
