The interior features granite countertops and significant stonework, which is also representative on the outside of the home. The pathways and rock stone walls bring a feeling of the romance of the Mediterranean to Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Bathroom Remodeling
“We just hired Hastings Construction for the second time in just over a year. Our first project was a bathroom remodel and 2nd project a wall tear-down and rebuild with sound proofing material. They provided excellent service overall. There was great attention to detail, and they did a fine job in an expedited time frame. We really appreciated daily updates on how things were looking and the process involved. Everyone was always very courteous and professional, taking care to clean up nicely at the end of the day. Would certainly recommend to others around the area.”
Flooring
You've probably heard that responsibly sourced wood flooring can be eco-friendly, and you may know that natural stone floors can be fairly sustainable as well because they require minimal processing. But aside from these popular types of flooring, you actually have a lot of other eco friendly flooring options, some of which you may not be familiar with.

Tile Installation
Concrete tiles may not sound as fancy as ceramic tiles for your bathroom, but they can provide a very similar appearance and function. And because concrete doesn't have to be baked in a kiln, the production of these tiles can be more energy-efficient than that of ceramic tiles. Add in the remarkable longevity of concrete, and you have an all-around eco-friendly flooring option.
Fireplaces
This craftsman style custom home features more neutral, natural stains and woods like Douglas fir stained in a mahogany finish. The windows were stained both inside and out without paint in order to highlight the craftsman style. We custom built and installed installed a beautiful natural stone fireplace, stained glass pendants throughout the bathrooms, and an intricate staircase railing to tie the whole interior together.
Our in-house permitting and design departments will assist with your construction project, from small renovations to home additions.
New Construction
“We hired Hastings Construction for an addition to our Carmel Home. The site was challenging. They rose to the occasion. Not only did they do a great job with the new construction, but they protected the existing home and garden and accommodated our visits out there before the job was completed. I cannot recommend them more highly. I would use them if any further changes were to be made. They were also very conscious of staying within our budget. Thanks, Justin and his crew.
Foundation Installation
Sunrooms
On the interior we opened things up, creating a more open concept floor plan, as well as reconfigured the existing space to better fit the homeowner's needs. We merged the Dining room & Kitchen and opened it up to the living room, vaulted & raised ceilings throughout, and redesigned the sunroom to create a breakfast nook with built-in bench seating. We created 2 new ensuites as well as designed a bunk room. The home features many updates including all new panel-front & stainless steel appliances, flat-panel cabinets with brass & bronze hardware, white Silestone countertops, custom tile, Homerwood Charcoal hardwood flooring, and of course shiplap.
California's dry climate compounded by recent drought conditions has moved many homeowners to convert lush, grassy backyards into something wildly different. The key to true responsible water consumption is to choose landscaping features that need little or no water.

Excavation

Retaining Walls
This new home was built in 2009. The original home was demolished and in its place, we built a new 1,600 square foot home with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, complete with backyard fire pit. On the exterior, natural stone was used throughout the landscape to hide the many large concrete retaining walls. Paired with cedar shake siding, copper gutters & downspouts, stained wood trim and sage green windows...
The exterior is finished in a thick, stucco-clad topped off with red clay terracotta roof tiles. The interior features include smooth stucco walls, kerf jambs, stained wood windows & doors, dark wooden ceiling beams, hardwood flooring, large U-shaped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and a gas-start wood burning fireplace.
Decks
One popular choice for a drought-tolerant yard is to cover large portions of it with raised decks and deck platforms. Unlike other mediums that cover the ground like gravel or mulch, decks give you more than just coverage, they are outdoor living spaces that you can enjoy year round.
Patios
Most of the floors and interior beams were changed to include more natural woods in a minimalist style. Windows were left with a natural stain and multiple decks and patios were installed to create a villa-like property layout and atmosphere.
Gutters
Our in-house Designer, Angie Phares, redesigned the home to take advantage of the ocean view by adding multiple large windows & sliding glass doors as well as adding a front deck. The homeowners wanted an American Farmhouse style exterior, so we replaced the original siding with board & battens painting them white, new black gutters & downspouts, and added white cedar corbels to tie in with the newly refinished Garapa stairs & decking.
Siding
So you plan to update the exterior of your home. Maybe you're ready for a change, or you want to increase curb appeal as you prepare to sell. Regardless of what type of finish your home has, from stucco to wood siding, there are ways to make it feel fresh and new as well as protect it for years to come.
Residential Roof Repair
You should have a comprehensive house plan before starting the construction process to avoid costly mistakes. The plan should include the house type, foundation plan, the room's layouts, flooring material, and the stairs' design, electrical plan, and plumbing design. Poor planning could lead to unsatisfying results, such as a house with narrow hallways, poor drainage, or inappropriate roofing materials.
Rotted sills or damaged gutters can lead to water damage or a failed vapor barrier that will need to be replaced. You may also have to replace insulation that has degraded over time. Some cracks in a stucco-covered home may need more than a layer or two of paint.
