After graduating from Lovett, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors at the University of Georgia in Athens and then attended the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. While in medical school, he received the prestigious Excellence in Medicine Clerkship, awarded annually to one junior student who demonstrates the utmost in skill and dedication.
